ADCG Rawalpindi inspects Muharram procession routes, orders enhanced security & Civic measures

RAWALPINDI, Jun 05 (APP): Additional Deputy Commissioner General (ADCG) Rawalpindi, Maliha Sehar conducted a detailed inspection of central Muharram procession routes to review security and administrative preparations ahead of Muharram-ul-Haram.
Officials from relevant departments accompanied her during the visit.

The visit aimed to assess security measures, sanitation arrangements, and other logistical requirements to ensure peaceful and smooth conduct of religious gatherings and processions.
During the inspection, the ADCG visited Imambargahs, entry and exit points of processions, and other sensitive locations. She directed the police administration to ensure foolproof security at all vulnerable points and instructed that walk-through gates and CCTV cameras be installed and made fully operational along procession routes. She also emphasized that participants should only be allowed to enter processions after thorough body searches.
Maliha Sehar issued clear deadlines to officials from various departments for completing all necessary arrangements. She directed the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) and other relevant departments to immediately repair potholes and complete road carpeting along procession routes.
She also ordered the deployment of sanitation staff in shifts and instructed authorities to ensure prompt removal of waste from procession routes.
Addressing public safety concerns, she directed WAPDA and internet service providers to raise or remove hazardous hanging wires along the routes, while district authorities were instructed to ensure that all streetlights remain fully functional.
The ADCG also reviewed arrangements for medical assistance and food safety. Rescue 1122 and the Health Department were instructed to establish and activate medical camps, while the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) was directed to monitor the quality of food and drinking water provided at langar and sabeel points.
During the visit, traffic police briefed officials on alternative traffic plans for Muharram. Maliha Sehar instructed that details of alternative routes be publicized through the media well in advance to minimize inconvenience for residents during the observance of Muharram.
Speaking on the occasion, the ADCG said Muharram-ul-Haram teaches the values of tolerance and mutual respect. She appreciated the cooperation of local peace committees and license holders and reaffirmed the district administration’s commitment to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure the peaceful observance of Muharram.
