LAHORE, Sep 12 (APP):Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Muhammad Faisal Kamran has said that the process of accountability will continue until corruption is eliminated, adding that every police official would be held accountable for violating the law and departmental rules.
He expressed these views while presiding over his weekly Orderly Room room (also known as the ardali room) at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh, here on Saturday, where he heard appeals against departmental punishments and issued decisions and directions for their implementation.
The DIG Operations heard 25 appeals during the proceedings and reviewed the requests submitted by the police officials concerned. Following a review of the cases, he ordered re-inquiry into 13 appeals against departmental punishments and directed that transparent and impartial investigations be ensured.
He also rejected eight appeals, ordering that the departmental punishments imposed on the officials concerned be maintained.
DIG Faisal Kamran made it clear that officials dismissed for misuse of authority and involvement in bribery would not be reinstated. He said transparency and merit would be given the highest priority in departmental accountability proceedings. He directed that strict departmental action be taken against officials found negligent in the performance of their duties, misusing their authority or misbehaving with citizens.
The DIG said the purpose of the Orderly Room was to provide police officials with an effective opportunity to appeal against departmental decisions while also ensuring discipline and accountability within the force. He said an effective system of departmental accountability would further improve the standards of responsibility and performance in the police force. He directed officers and personnel to perform their duties with honesty, dedication and a strong sense of responsibility.
DIG Faisal Kamran further said that honest officers and personnel would continue to be encouraged and appreciated, stressing that transparency, merit and discipline would remain the fundamental principles of departmental accountability.
