Abbasi meets railway unions, orders immediate action on employees’ demands

LAHORE, May 16 (APP): Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi on Saturday held a meeting with delegations of railway employees’ unions and assured them of immediate action on their legitimate demands.
During the meeting, the minister issued directives for the prompt implementation of the unions’ genuine concerns and reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of railway employees.
Union representatives appreciated the performance and initiatives of Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, stating that the credit for the promotion of around 40,000 railway employees goes to the current railway minister.
Addressing the participants, Hanif Abbasi said that the progress of Pakistan Railways depends on the strengthening of the institution itself. He remarked that both officers and workers delivering better performance deserve appreciation and encouragement.
The minister warned that if any “black sheep” was found among railway officers, responsibility for action would rest with the concerned departmental head.
He said he had always seen railway workers performing their duties with dedication and hard work, adding that transparency would remain the ministry’s top priority and no decisions would be taken behind closed doors.
The minister further informed the meeting that measures were being taken in collaboration with the private sector to improve railway schools and hospitals.
He also directed authorities to immediately prepare estimates for the repair of roofs of dilapidated railway residential quarters to facilitate employees living in poor conditions.
