5,486 drug peddlers held with huge quantity of narcotics
LAHORE, Sep 14 (APP):Lahore Police arrested 5,486 drug peddlers and registered 5,293 cases against them
during an ongoing crackdown against drug trafficking in the city during the current year.
According to a Lahore Police spokesperson, the arrested suspects were found involved in
the illegal sale and supply of narcotics, while police recovered 2,000 kg of hashish, 621 kg of ice and 104 kg of heroin during various operations.
The police also seized 410 kg of cannabis, 50 kg of opium and more than 22,000 litres of liquor from the accused, he added.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana directed police to ensure strict implementation of a zero-tolerance policy against drug peddlers and their facilitators.
He also directed the police to keep a close watch on online channels being used for the purchase and sale of drugs and to bring all elements involved in the supply chain to justice.
The CCPO said that drug peddlers posed a serious threat to society and no negligence or laxity would be tolerated in operations against them.
He directed the concerned officers to continue indiscriminate and uninterrupted action against the illicit drug trade.
