5 deaths in traffic accident: LHC dismisses driver’s bail plea

The Lahore High Court on Wednesday dismissed the post-arrest bail petition of a driver accused of causing a traffic accident that killed five people and left four others seriously injured.

LAHORE, Aug 19 (APP): The Lahore High Court on Wednesday dismissed the post-arrest bail petition of a driver accused of causing a traffic accident that killed five people and left four others seriously injured.
Justice Muhammad Amjad Parvaiz heard the bail petition, filed by accused Rana Muhammad Shafiq, who is facing a case registered at Kot Ladha Police Station in Gujranwala district.
During the hearing, the defence counsel submitted that the accused had been in jail since April 2026 and had no enmity with any of the deceased. He said the accident occurred when the truck collided with another vehicle, resulting in the deaths of five people. The counsel requested the court to grant bail to the accused.
Opposing the bail petition, the prosecutor submitted that the case had been registered under non-bailable provisions. He further stated that the accused did not possess a valid licence to drive the truck. He submitted that the accident occurred because the accused violated the rules governing a one-way road. Five people were killed and four others sustained serious injuries in the incident, he added. He further informed the court that two other cases of a similar nature had previously been registered against the accused, describing him as a habitual offender and arguing that he was not entitled to any concession.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court dismissed the bail petition after the accused’s counsel withdrew it.
