LAHORE, Oct 05 (APP):The district administration has arrested 11 persons and imposed fines amounting to Rs.271,500 on overcharging during a price control crackdown across Lahore in the last 24 hours.
According to a spokesperson here on Monday,Assistant Commissioners,Price Control Magistrates and the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) conducted 2,130 inspections across the district,resulting in 58 challans for violations of notified prices.
The highest fine of Rs.125,000 was imposed in Raiwind Tehsil, where 289 inspections resulted in 13 challans.
In Model Town Tehsil,275 inspections led to one challan,a Rs.5,000 fine and five arrests while Allama Iqbal Town recorded 317 inspections,16 challans and Rs.44,000 in fines.
Cantonment Tehsil conducted 255 inspections,resulting in five challans,Rs.13,000 in fines and three arrests. Nishtar Tehsil recorded 137 inspections,seven challans,Rs.42,000 in fines and one arrest.
Sadar Tehsil conducted 187 inspections,resulting in four challans and Rs.16,000 in fines while Ravi Town recorded 169 inspections,five challans and Rs.9,000 in fines.
Wagah Tehsil conducted 150 inspections,resulting in five challans and Rs.9,500 in fines while Shalimar Tehsil recorded 275 inspections,two challans,Rs.8,000 in fines and two arrests.
City Tehsil conducted 76 inspections.
Assistant Commissioners also conducted 67 inspections of fruits and vegetables and 35 inspections of chicken prices to ensure compliance with notified rates.
Deputy Commissioner(DC) Lahore,Muhammad Ali Ejaz said profiteering and overcharging would not be tolerated and directed the officials concerned to ensure the provision of essential commodities to citizens at notified prices. He instructed Price Control Magistrates,Assistant Commissioners and PERA teams to remain active in the field and submit daily performance reports.
The DC said strict action would continue against violators of notified prices, adding that provision of relief to citizens was the administration’s top priority.
