MULTAN, Mar 12 (APP):Punjab Food Authority (PFA) claimed to have discarded around 100kg of adulterated spices, 120kg of chillies and 150kg of fake honey during raids conducted in Burewala and Layyah.
The crackdown was carried out early Thursday morning on a tip-off, according to details shared by the PFA spokesman.
During a raid in Burewala, the team seized around 100kg of adulterated spices along with packing material of a well-known brand from a grinding mill. A case was registered against the owner of the mill, Nadeem Niyaz. The authorities also confiscated and destroyed a considerable quantity of adulterated ispaghol and custard powder that was being packed in the name of a famous brand.
Meanwhile, the food safety team in Layyah conducted raids in Fatehpur, Ghaziabad and Chowk Azam where 150kg of fake honey and 120kg of adulterated chillies were discovered and destroyed on the spot.
Officials said the fake honey was being prepared using harmful ingredients, while artificial colouring and other substances were found mixed in the chillies.
Director General of the Food Authority said in a statement that it was unfortunate that the adulteration mafia continued to commit such crimes even during the holy month of Ramzan. He vowed that the authority would continue its operations without interruption to protect the public from adulterated food.
