1 killed, 2 escape after firing on police in Rawat

A suspected criminal was killed while his two accomplices managed to escape after they opened fire on a police team in Rawat area on Tuesday night, a Rawalpindi Police spokesman said on Wednesday.

RAWALPINDI, Mar 25 (APP): A suspected criminal was killed while his two accomplices managed to escape after they opened fire on a police team in Rawat area on Tuesday night, a Rawalpindi Police spokesman said on Wednesday.

The incident, occurred when the police signalled three motorcyclists to stop on suspicion. Instead of complying, the suspects resorted to firing at the police team.

During the exchange of fire, one of the suspects was killed, while the other two fled the scene. The police impounded the motorcycle used by the suspects along with weapons.

The deceased was later identified as Hussain alias Chacheen, who, the spokesman said, had a criminal record in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa involving cases of narcotics, illegal weapons, attempted murder as well as theft and housebreaking.

Constable Nazeer sustained a bullet injury during the firing but remained safe due to his bulletproof jacket, the spokesman added.

On receiving information about the incident, senior police officers, along with a contingent, reached the spot and cordoned off the area. A search operation was under way to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The body was shifted to a hospital for post-mortem examination.

City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani commended Superintendent of Police (SP) Saddar, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Saddar and the Rawat Police team for their bravery in confronting the culprits.
