ISLAMABAD, June 30 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Thursday advised the President to remit the sentences of convicts, imprisoned for various crimes, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The President would grant these remissions in pursuance of the approved policy, in exercise of his powers under Article 45 of the Constitution, providing for special remission in sentence on the occasions of Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid Milad-un-Nabi, Pakistan Day and Independence Day.
The President granted 90-day remission to the prisoners, convicted for life imprisonment.
The remission, however, would not be admissible for those convicted for murder, espionage, anti-state activities, sectarianism, Zina, robbery, dacoity, kidnapping,/abduction, and terrorist acts.
The Prime Minister also advised the President for remission of 45 days of sentence to all other convicts except the condemned prisoners and also except those convicted of murder, espionage, subversion, anti-state activities, terrorist act, Zina, kidnapping/ abduction, robbery, dacoity and those undergoing sentence under the Foreigners Act 1946.
The special remissions will be admissible provided that the convicts have undergone two-third of their substantive sentence of imprisonment.
The Prime Minister also advised for total remission to male prisoners who are 65 years of age or above and have undergone at least one-third of their substantive sentence except those involved in culpable homicide, and in terrorist acts.
The President had also been advised to grant total remission to female prisoners who are 60 years of age or above and have undergone at least one-third of their sentence except those involved in culpable homicide and terrorist act.
The President has also been advised to grant special remission of one year to the female prisoners who have been accompanying children and are serving sentence of imprisonment for crimes other than culpable homicide and terrorist acts.
The Prime Minister also advised for grant of total remission to juvenile convicts of under 18 years of age who have served one-third of their substantive sentence except those involve in culpable homicide, terrorist act, Zina, robbery, dacoity and kidnapping or abduction.
