ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (APP): Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Sunday said people had rejected the politics of protests and sit-ins as the present government was working for their uplift.

The so-called protest movements launched by opposition parties were just for political point-scoring, he said talking to a private news channel.

Khaqan Abbasi said the government was answerable to the people who would hold it accountable on the basis of performance in next general elections, which would be held in 2018.

To a question about terms of reference (ToR), the minister
said the government was ready for investigations into the Panama Papers but it wanted across the board accountability that all those whose names had appeared in the Papers, should be held equally accountable.

He said both Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan
Peoples Party (PPP) should better focus on improving governance in the provinces where they were in power instead of criticizing the federal government and holding protests and sit-ins.
