Pakistan’s winning Taekwondo squad returns home

ISLAMABAD, Nov 16 (APP): Pakistan’s five member squad returned
here on Wednesday following a fruitful participation in Malaysia where
it won one gold, two silver and one bronze medal during International Invitational Taekwondo Championship.
Vehari based army player Abdul Waqar Ahmed clinched the gold medal in 80 KG Category whereas Taimoor Sadiq from Pakistan army took the silver medal in +87 Category, says a press release.
Hanna Khan from Karachi bagged silver medal in 73 KG category in women’s competition while Fasihuddin grabbed a Bronze Medal in 68 KG Category.
Waqar told media that it was an amazing experience because this was the first time he competed at an international event.
“I am thankful to PTF and Pakistan Army and my coaches who have given me the platform to represent at international arena. Hopefully I will win many more medals for Pakistan in the future.”
On the other hand PTF President Lt Col Raja Waseem Ahmed said that it is vital for Pakistani athletes to compete at the invitational or smaller events before the Islamic Solidarity Games next year.
He said that Pakistan Sports Board and Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination should encourage those who are making efforts and earning medals in invitational events for the country.
A warm welcome was given to Pakistani contingent by the army officials and athletes alongwith representatives of PTF at the Benazir International Airport, Islamabad.
