ISLAMABAD, Nov 12 (APP): A three-member Pakistan bowling squad, including one official has left for the United States to feature in the 51st Annual QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup that commences on Friday.
Our two players “one male and one female have departed for the US to chip in the event,” a spokesman of Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation (PTBF) told APP on Thursday.
He said Ijaz-ur-Rehman, who is among Pakistan’s top ranked bowlers,
would participate in men’s event, while Janet Sheikh will represent the country in female contests.
He said Janet was in Kuwait and had flown directly from there for the
US, while Ijaz along with team manager Hussain Chatta left Islamabad for the US, the other day.
The seven-day event, formerly known as the International Masters and AMF
Bowling World Cup would be held at 56-Lane Bowling Center in Sam’s Town, Las Vegas.
This is an annual tenpin bowling event. But Pakistani bowlers are
participating in it only for the second time. Pakistan’s first participation in the event was in 2009 when they finished 52nd among 120 countries.
The 2015 QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup international finals will comprise
a series of three stages of eliminations before the semifinal and final matches; qualifying round, intermediate round and Top 8 Bowlers.
Each nation chooses one male and one female bowler to represent the
country in the tournament.
Pakistan arranged qualifying tournaments, and winners of the both male
and female categories were selected for the world cup.
In 2011, the Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation took a big step when it
succeeded in getting itself affiliated permanently with the World Bowling Association, Asian bowling federation and Commonwealth bowling Federation.
The affiliations helped the PTBF get facilitation, coaches and
opportunities to send its players to the international tournaments that promoted the game in the country.
