Pakistan always desired, endeavoured to have cooperative relations with India: Basit

ISLAMABAD, Aug 14 (APP): Pakistan’s High Commissioner in India Abdul Basit Sunday said that Pakistan had always desired and endeavoured to have cooperative relations with India on the basis of sovereign equality and peaceful resolution of the bilateral disputes.

Addressing the flag hoisting ceremony arranged by Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi at the Chancery’s lush green lawns, Basit stressed that the political aspiration of the people of Jammu and Kashmir could not be suppressed, nor could anyone belittle or wish away their legitimate struggle and enormous sacrifices, says a press release received here from India.

Basit, who also hoisted the national flag at the ceremony, said it was incumbent upon the international community to ensure implementation of the relevant UN resolutions to settle the long-standing Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

He said Pakistan would continue extending its full diplomatic, political and moral support to the valiant people of Jammu and Kashmir till they get their right to self determination.

The high commissioner highlighted the significance of the independence movement and huge sacrifices rendered by “our forefathers to realize their dream, namely, Pakistan”.

He emphasized that Pakistan was a blessing and that it was destined to become a bastion of peace and prosperity.

Basit said the people of Pakistan were united to overcome the internal and external challenges and thwart all conspiracies aimed at destablising Pakistan.

Students of the Pakistan High Commission School presented national songs and tableaus. Summiya Basit, wife of the High Commissioner, gave away prizes and gifts to the teachers and children of the school.

Earlier, Syed Haider Shah, Deputy High Commissioner read out the Independence Day messages from the president and the prime minister of Pakistan.
