ISLAMABAD, Mar 22 (APP):President Dr Arif Alvi Friday said that Pakistan attached high importance to its relations with Malaysia and regular exchanges at the highest level between the two countries were indispensable to provide strategic direction to bilateral relations and boost cooperation.
The president said this during delegation level as well as one-to-one meetings with Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Mahathir Mohamad here at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The Malaysian prime minister arrived here Thursday on a three-day visit mainly to attend the National Day parade as guest of honor.
During the meetings, both the leaders discussed matters of mutual interest and bilateral relations and talked about the similarities between the two brotherly countries including drive against corruption and efforts to uplift and revive their economies. They also discussed about the promotion of e-commerce.
In his remarks, President Alvi said that elevating the bilateral relations between Pakistan and Malaysia to the level of strategic partnership would pave path towards more extensive and tangible cooperation in diverse fields.
He added that closer cooperation between the two countries was very important especially in the scenario of paradigm shift in global politics resulting in the emergence of new partnerships and its bearing on the region.
The president emphasized that Pakistan attached high importance to its relations with Malaysia and both countries enjoyed close and cordial relations based on the solid foundations of a shared faith, culture and heritage.
He said Pakistan wanted to further strengthen the existing excellent bilateral relations, both in strategic and economic terms, to the mutual benefit of the people of the two countries in the years ahead.
