Gilani decries May 9 incident as dark day in Pakistan’s history

ISLAMABAD, May 8 (APP): Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Wednesday described May 9 incident as a dark chapter in Pakistan’s history.

In a message, he expressed strong dismay over the acts of vandalism and attacks on significant national assets, including Jinnah House, emphasizing that such reprehensible actions have no place in civilized societies.

The Chairman Senate reiterated that the entire nation was shocked and outraged by the distressing events of May 9.

He lamented the desecration of monuments and martyrs’ memorials emphasizing that martyrs hold a revered place in the hearts of every Pakistani, deserving utmost respect. He said that those who orchestrated these events deserved no leniency.

Gilani paid glowing tributes to the sacrifices rendered by Pakistan’s armed forces for the defence of motherland .

He called upon all political entities to unite in addressing Pakistan’s challenges and contribute positively to the country’s development, emphasizing the need for concerted efforts.

Sindh Industries minister visits SITE

KARACHI, May 08 (APP): Sindh Minister for Industries and Commerce Jam Ikramullah Dharejo Wednesday visited the office of SITE Limited and took a briefing regarding the facilitation center established there.

Secretary Industries and Commerce Muhammad Yasin Shar Baloch, MD SITE Ghazanfar Ali Qadri, Secretary SITE Syed Muzaffar Ali Shah and other officers were also present on this occasion.

Dharejo said that the purpose of setting up the facilitation center is to provide facilities to the industrialists. With the activation of this center, all relevant facilities will be available online to the industrialists, he said.

He added, “We are enabling a facilitation center under one stop solution. Industrialists will get all NOCs sitting in their offices.”

Dharejo said that the activation of the facilitation center would enable timely redressal of industrialists’ grievances.

He also directed to make the facilitation center functional as soon as possible.

Pak-Qatar Family Takaful achieves Rs156.3 turnover in 2023

KARACHI, May 08 (APP): The Pak-Qatar Family Takaful Limited (PQFTL) announcing financial results for year 2023 on Wednesday, informed that it achieved a turnover of Rs16.30 billion while Shareholders Fund has posted Rs156.30 million net profit after tax.

According to a statement issued here, profitability of the Shareholders Fund was calculated with earning per share (EPS) of Rs1.20 per share despite all challenges while the Participants’ Takaful Fund (Waqf Fund) generated a surplus before distribution of Rs37.5 million.

The company has increased its balance sheet footing through impressive growth in its investments and financing portfolio in the year ended December 31, 2023, it claimed.

PQFTL, a leading provider of Shariah-compliant family Takaful solutions in Pakistan, is part of Islamic financial conglomerate Pak-Qatar Group and is rated ‘A++’ by VIS Credit Rating Company Limited and Pakistan Credit Rating Agency (PACRA).

The Board meeting, presided over by Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah bin Thani al-Thani, the Chairman of Pak-Qatar Group, discussed the financial results of the company for 2023 and its future plans for 2024, in the meeting held in Doha, Qatar.

The Pak-Qatar Group encompasses companies such as Pak-Qatar Family Takaful Limited, Pak-Qatar General Takaful Limited, Pak-Qatar Investment (Private) Limited and Pak-Qatar Asset Management Company Limited.

Govt ensuring one stop solution to industrialists: Ikramullah Dharejo

KARACHI, May 08 (APP): Sindh Minister for Industries and Commerce Jam Ikramullah Dharejo, Wednesday, said that industries department was setting up a facilitation center at SITE area as one stop solution for providing all the relevant facilities to industrialists online.

He expressed the views during visit of Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE) Limited. Secretary Industries and Commerce Muhammad Yasin Shar Baloch, MD SITE Ghazanfar Ali Qadri, Secretary SITE Syed Muzaffar Ali Shah and other officers were also present on the occasion.

The minister received a briefing regarding the facilitation center established at the SITE and directed to make the facilitation center functional at the earliest.

He highlighted that purpose of setting up the facilitation center was to provide facilities to the industrialists as one stop solution.

With activation of the center all relevant facilities will be available online to the industrialists and they could get all NOCs while sitting in their offices, Jam Ikramullah Dharejo said adding that activation of the Facilitation Center would enable timely redressal of industrialists’ grievances as well.

IT, Telecom role vital for economic uplift: Shaza Fatima

ISLAMABAD, May 08 (APP): A high-level delegation of Telecom Infrastructure Services Company EDOTCO Group led by its Group CEO Mohamed Adlan Ahmad Tajuddin on Wednesday called on Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja and discussed matters of mutual interest and related to Telecom infrastructure.

The other members of the delegation included Annis Sheikh Mohammed, Group CFO, Noreen Sabrina Mohd Noor, Group Head of Corporate Communications, Abdul Aziz, Country Managing Director, and Muhammad Rehan Farooqui, Director of Corporate Affairs and Planning, said a news release.

While talking to the delegation, Shaza Fatima said that steps are being taken for digitalization in the country.
She said that the present government is committed to the provision of quality broadband and Internet services to the masses.

Shaza Fatima said that the IT and Telecom sector has an important role in the economic uplift of the country.

She said that the Ministry of IT & Telecom was taking alongside the telecom industry, adding that issues confronting the Telecom industry will be resolved.

The minister noted that EDOTCO Group support was vital for the development of the telecom industry, urging EDOTCO to play its role in the digitalization process in Pakistan.

Shaza Fatima invited EDOTCO Group to further invest in the telecom sector of Pakistan, adding that the atmosphere for foreign investment in Pakistan is conducive.

EDOTCO delegation said that the role of the Ministry of IT & Telecom in the promotion of IT and Telecommunication sector is laudable. The two sides also agreed to form a working group.

May 9 to be remembered darkest day in Pakistan’s history: Ayaz

ISLAMABAD, May 8 (APP): Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq Wednesday said that May 9 will always be remembered as the darkest day in Pakistan’s history when the very foundations of the country were attacked by the miscreant elements, compromising the integrity and prestige of martyrs.

He also said that every patriotic Pakistani has categorically denounced the conspiracy to create a wedge between the nation and its armed forces, said a news release.

“Pakistan owes its existence and integrity to the sacrifices rendered by brave personnel of our security agencies,” he expressed these views while denouncing the nefarious designs and mayhem perpetrated by anti-state elements, involved in the riots on May 9, 2023.

While strongly denouncing the nefarious activities of rioters of May 9, the Speaker also reiterated that every Pakistani would continue to safeguard the integrity and respect of martyrs who had rendered their lives for the honor and integrity of the motherland.

He also said the rouge elements had committed such heinous crimes which were not only unimaginable for every peace-loving and patriotic Pakistani but which even the enemies of Pakistan could never have dared.

While referring on the blatant attacks on the symbols of national pride and honor such as the Jinnah House, monuments of the martyrs, military installations and state institutions, the Speaker regretted that no one had ever dared to cast evil eye on these sacred icons of national pride.

He reaffirmed the pledge to restore and protect the state assets, adding that Pakistan owed its development and prosperity to sacrifices of brave personnel of Pakistan security forces.

Ayaz Sadiq also said that exemplary punishment was essential to discourage the propagandists and their handlers involved in 9th May riots.

He also said that people and Parliament stood shoulder to shoulder with its security forces especially in the war against terrorism.

The Speaker also expressed his firm belief that Pakistani security agencies would eliminate terrorism and extremism from the soil of Pakistan once and for all and Pakistan would again be on the path to progress and prosperity.

LESCO collects over Rs 4.12m  from 128 defaulters in 24 hours

LAHORE, May 08 (APP):Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has recovered more than Rs 4.12 million from 128 dead defaulters in all the five districts – Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur and Okara – on the 216th day of its recovery campaign.
LESCO spokesman told media here Wednesday that on the 216th day, SE (Superintending Engineer) Nisar Sarwar has recovered outstanding dues of Rs 0.72 million from 18 defaulters in Northern Circle; SE Umar Bilal recovered Rs 0.99 million from 35 defaulters in Eastern Circle;  SE Shabbir recovered Rs 0.38 million from 16 defaulters in Central Circle; SE Zafarullah Saanghi collected Rs 0.10 million from 04 defaulters in South Circle; SE Muhammad Hussain recovered Rs 0.48 million from 12 defaulters in Nankana Circle; SE Najamul Hassan recovered Rs 0.31 million from 13 defaulters in Sheikhupura Circle; SE Jamshed Zaman collected Rs 0.56 million from 12 defaulters in Okara Circle and SE Ahmed Shahzad Chughtai recovered Rs 0.58 million from 18 defaulters in Kasur Circle.
During the 216 days, the spokesman added that the LESCO under the supervision of Director (Customer Services) Sarwar Mughal has recovered a total of Rs 2.933 billion outstanding dues from 102,213 dead defaulters. He elaborated that uptill now the company has collected Rs 433.97 million from 14,851 defaulters in Northern Circle; Rs 688.94 million from 13,390 defaulters in Eastern Circle; Rs 388.76 million from 11,518 defaulters in Central Circle; Rs 161.17 million from 6,038 defaulters in South Circle; Rs 237.08 million from 8,817 defaulters in Nankana Circle; Rs 428.71 million from 11,947 defaulters in Sheikhupura Circle; Rs 191.78 million from 16,268 defaulters in Okara Circle and Rs 403.71 million from 19,384 defaulters in Kasur Circle.
