Shipping Activity at Port Qasim

KARACHI, May 09 (APP):Six ships, MSC Roma, Maersk Cape Town, MH Sandef Jord, Ionic Artemis, PH Giang Minh and Sea Ambition, berthed at Container Terminal, Multi-Purpose Terminal, Oil Terminal and Engro Terminal respectively on Wednesday.
Meanwhile five more ships, Atlantic Ibis, One Modern, Scio Sprit, Ginga Caracal and Spring Oasis carrying Container, Palm Kernel, Chemicals and Coal also arrived at outer-anchorage of the Port Qasim during last 24 hours.
A total of eight ships were engaged at PQA berths during the last 24 hours, out of them a containers ship ‘MSC ROma’ left the port on today morning. Meanwhile six more ships, Maersk Cape Town, One Modern, Atlantic Ibis, Ullswater, Sea Ambition and White Peach are expected to sail today afternoon.
Cargo volume of 98,211 tonnes, comprising 41,828 tonnes imports cargo and 56,383 tonnes export
cargo carried in 4,230 Containers (2,260 TEUs Imports and 1,970 TEUs export) was handled at the port
during last 24 hours.
There are 07 ships at Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim, out of them five ships, Huang Shan-16, Spring Oasis, Ginga Caracal, Atlantic Ibis and One Modern & another ship, APL QingdaocarryingPalm oil, Coal, Chemicals, and Container are expected to take berths at LCT, PIBT, EVTL and QICT on today 08 May, 2024.

PM strongly condemns killing of seven people in Gwadar

ISLAMABAD, May 09 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday strongly condemned the killing of seven people in Gwadar.

According to media reports, unidentified gunmen shot dead seven labourers in an attack in Sarbandar area of Gwadar in Balochistan early Thursday.

The prime minister prayed to Allah Almighty for peace for the departed souls and sympathised with the bereaved families.

“We share the grief of the victim families. Such an attack is a cowardly act of anti-state elements,” he said and reiterated the resolve to eliminate terrorism from the country.

PESHAWAR, May 09 (APP):The lawyers staged boycott of courts against Police violence against lawyers in Lahore on the call of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) here on Thursday.
The lawyers across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are not appearing in courts, the office-bearers decided.
“Today we also boycotted the court on the incident that happened in Lahore,” the lawyers said in protest.
Joint Secretary High Court Bar Association Ijaz Ali Shah in his speech strongly condemns Police violence against lawyers. Action should be taken against those officers who ordered to block the path of peaceful lawyers, Ijaz Ali Shah Advocate said.
Peaceful protest is the right of every citizen and this right is given by the Constitution of Pakistan, Ijaz Ali Shah Advocate told media men.
There will be no compromise on the rule of law in the country, Ijaz Ali Shah Advocate said.

MADINAH AL-MUNAWARA,May 9 (APP):: The Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport (Madina Airport) received three flights in the morning session on Thursday, with short intervals, carrying a total of 530 intending Hajj pilgrims from Karachi and Islamabad to the holy land.

The first flight from Karachi brought 179 Hujjaj, while the second and third flights from Islamabad and Karachi brought 200 and 151 pilgrims, respectively, to the city of the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The Hajj pilgrims were warmly received by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ahmad Farooq, Director General of Hajj Abdul Wahab Soomro, Consul General Khalid Mehmood, Director of Hajj in Madinah Zia-ur-Rehman, Director of Facilitation and Coordination Ahmed Nadeem Khan, Director Moavineen Asghar Yusufza, and Director Hajj Medical Mission Brigadier Jamil Lakhiar.

Filled with excitement and devotion, the pilgrims, who have been preparing for this moment for years, stepped foot in the Prophet’s (SAW) city, marking the beginning of the Hajj season. Approximately three million pilgrims from around the world, including 179,210 Pakistanis, will converge on the holy cities to perform the sacred Hajj.

From the airport, the passengers were transported to residential buildings located in Markazia, just a 15-20 minute walk from Masjid e Nabvi and Roza-e-Rasool (SAW), via luxurious buses.

The pilgrims will spend the next few days in Madinah, visiting holy sites and preparing themselves for the journey ahead.
They will then travel to Makkah, where they will perform other obligatory acts of Hajj, starting on 8th Zilhajj, including the circumambulation of the Ka’aba and the symbolic stoning of the devil.

On Thursday, 11 flights are scheduled to arrive in Madinah from five major cities in Pakistan, carrying approximately 2,160 intending Hajj pilgrims. The pre-Hajj flight operation, which will continue until June 10, will facilitate the arrival of thousands of pilgrims in the holy city.

During the first 15 days of the ongoing pre-Hajj flight operation, all flights will operate from various cities in Pakistan to Madinah until May 23, and afterwards, they will land at the King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah, until the completion of the pre-Hajj flight operation.”

Special meeting called to condemn May 9 incidents: Tarar

ISLAMABAD, May 09 (APP): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar said on Thursday that a special meeting has been called to condemn the tragic incidents of May 9.

Talking to media here, he said that May 9 (2023) was the darkest day in history of the country.

“For the sake of political and personal interests, a move was made on May 9 (last year), which was never done even by the enemies”, he added.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), and National Party (NP) have also been specially invited in the meeting.

He said a resolution regarding May 9 will be presented in the meeting and a white paper will also be presented by the Ministry of Law and Justice.

The PTI founder has been given a lot of concessions, his nephews and sisters were also involved in the May 9 tragedy, said the minister.

He said that May 9 cases should have been decided and the case should be taken to its logical end.

ISLAMABAD, May 9 (APP):Unidentified gunmen shot dead seven labourers from Punjab in a targeted attack in Sarbandar area of Gwadar in Balochistan province on early Thursday.
According to Gwadar Police Station Station House Officer (SHO) Mohsin Ali, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a residential quarter near the Gwadar Fish Harbour in the Surbandar area, leaving seven dead and one injured, private news channels reported.
The police official said that the dead and injured individuals used to work in a barbershop in the area and belonged to district Khanewal in Punjab.
The SHO added that the dead and the injured individual have all been shifted to the Gwadar Hospital.

ISLAMABAD, May 9 (APP):Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Qaiser Ahmad Sheikh, termed the tragic incident of May 9 the darkest day in the country’s history and promised that the victims of this heartbreaking incident will never be forgotten.
“The sacrifices of martyrs in this tragedy will always be remembered,” he said while talking to the PTV news channel.
“The government will not rest until those responsible for the vile acts on May 9 are apprehended and brought to
justice soon,” he added.
“The dark days will remain an unforgettable period in our history,” he said.
“Despite political differences, the integrity of the nation remains crucial, and those responsible for the May 9 disaster must be held accountable,” he added.
While showing his serious concern over the current political state of affairs, he suggested a ‘grand national dialogue’ for all political parties to ease the situation.
He said that the violent incidents of May 9 were not only an attack on the Pakistan Army but on the entire population.
He asked the culprits involved in the incident to say sorry, adding that May 9 was an attempt to create hatred between the people and the army.
“We salute our armed forces and our martyrs for their sacrifices for the security of Pakistan,” he said.

ISLAMABAD, May 8 (APP):Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar said on Thursday that eyes of the whole world were focused on the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to China.
During a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong, the two leaders discussed Pakistan-China relations, China Pakistan Economic Corridor, government initiatives to revive Pakistan’s economy and other important issues.
During the discussion regarding Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s upcoming visit to China, the minister said that besides the ongoing projects under CPEC, new projects and investment in CPEC will also be discussed.
“The relations between Pakistan and China are based on friendship, trust and mutual respect,” he said adding the relationship between the two countries has taken the form of a comprehensive strategic partnership.
  The CPEC was an important cooperation project between the two countries and China was Pakistan’s largest trading partner.
“Thanks to CPEC, the access of Chinese products to the markets of Pakistan and Pakistani products to China has increased”,  he remarked.
Tarar said that China’s cooperation in the completion of several major projects in Pakistan under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project was enviable.
The federal minister of information also informed the Chinese ambassador about the government’s economic initiatives and the visits of high-level delegations from Saudi Arabia and Iran.
“Economic indicators are becoming positive after  the present  government came to power,” he said and added that international journals were also predicting improvement in Pakistani economy.
The Chinese ambassador appreciated the government’s economic initiatives and expressed the hope that the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would continue on the road to progress and prosperity.
The minister also informed the Chinese Ambassador about the government’s measures to protect Chinese citizens in Pakistan.
In the meeting, it was also agreed to promote cooperation between the two countries in the fields of information and culture.
During the  visit of the Prime Minister to China, the news exchange agreement between China’s news agency “Xinhua” and Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) will also be signed, he said.
  During the meeting both sides also agreed to promote cultural and educational exchanges between the two countries.
At the end of the meeting, both the leaders  expressed their determination to continue cooperation with each other in multiple sectors.
