16th CNS international squash championship begins

KARACHI, May 08 (APP): The 16th Chief of the Naval Staff International Squash Championship commenced at Roshan Khan Jahangir Khan Squash Complex, Karachi.

Commander Karachi, Rear Admiral Muhammad Saleem graced the occasion as chief guest and declared the championship Open, said a news release on Wednesday.

During Chief of the Naval Staff International Squash Championship, 24 players will prove mettle of their skills, which include 19 international players from Austria, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Egypt, UK, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Tournament Director, Commodore Tauqeer Ahmed Khawaja in his opening remarks apprised the audience that Pakistan Navy is conducting Chief of the Naval Staff Open Squash Championship for last two decades. A total of 23 matches will be played during the championship, including four quarter finals, two semi finals and grand finale on May 12.

The Tournament Director hoped that the championship will be helpful in promotion of sports in general and squash in particular. He appreciated the spirit of players, officials and sponsors for their support and presence in this mega event.

This year, CNS International Squash Championship will see four new events which include categories for Women, U13/15 Boys and U15 Girls. The tournament has been registered with Professional Squash Association (PSA), an international governing body for professional squash circuit.

The inaugural match of the first round was played between Hazem Hossam & Mohammad Syafiq Kamal and Mohammad Syafiq Kamal was declared winner of the match.

First CNS International Squash Championship was conducted in year 2000 with Prize money of US$ 6000. Over the years, the tournament prize money has increased appreciably and this year it is US$ 20,000. Further, prize money for additional categories are as under:

Women Satellite Series: US$ 2,000

Junior Boys Under-13: PKR 100,000

Junior Boys Under-15: PKR 100,000

Junior Girls Under-15: PKR 100,000

The opening ceremony was attended by civil & military dignitaries, sponsors and senior players of squash.

Naqvi visits CDA for briefing on administration, management, development

ISLAMABAD, May 8 (APP): Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday visited Capital Development Authority (CDA) for briefing on the administration, management and development of Islamabad. Chairman CDA Mohammad Ali Randhawa welcomed the minister.

The minister directed to immediately start development work in sectors which were not developed for 20 years and also to allot plots to the allottees who have not received, despite paying the amount for years.

He also directed to formulate a comprehensive strategy for early possession of the plot because despite paying money, no possession of the plot is an insult of the citizens which is definitely not acceptable.

Mohsin Naqvi’s order to digitization of land records of Islamabad and in this regard CDA tasked for computerising land records in 6 months.

It was decided in the meeting that CDA will have a fast one-window system which is a major initiative for the convenience of the citizens of Islamabad.

CDA should ensure the provision of services without delay to the citizens of Islamabad so that there is no hassle of waiting, Mohsin Naqvi directed.

The Minister ordered to provide more services online and enable CDA’s smart app within three months.

He also Instructed to ensure availability of call centre facility at all times and construction of cycling and walking tracks on green balance should be completed soon.

Naqvi asked for a landscaping and beautification plan in Islamabad and the Diplomatic Enclave will be made the most beautiful area of the city in 3 months.

CDA should start work on opening new sectors, Mohsin Naqvi directed adding that he will not tolerate any further delay in the sectors which have not yet been given possession to the people.

After introduction with the senior officers of CDA the minister planted a sapling in the lawn of CDA head office.

Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Agha, IG Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Memon, Director Admin ICT Attendance of all CDA members in the meeting.

Pakistan attaches high importance to its ties with Iran: Pirzada

ISLAMABAD, May 08 (APP): Federal Minister for Housing and Works Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada on Wednesday said that Pakistan attached high importance to its brotherly ties with Iran.

He was talking to Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghaddam, who called on him.

Pirzada said that it was an honour for him to meet and welcome Iranian President Ayatollah Ibrahim Raisi and accompany him during his visit to Pakistan.

The minister acknowledged the ambassador’s tireless efforts for strengthening the two countries’ relationship.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed various bilateral issues.

They emphasized the shared commitment of Iran and Pakistan to standing up for the rights of the people of Kashmir and Palestine.

They noted that the two countries had been resolute in their support for the two long-standing conflicts.

Minister Pirzada lauded the stance taken by Iran on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine, where the world had witnessed a concerning silence from so-called human rights advocates. He highlighted the importance of Iran’s principled position in the face of grave injustice.

The minister informed the ambassador that the message of the Iranian President for the Prime Minister of Pakistan had been duly conveyed. Moreover, he himself delivered the Iranian President’s message to the people of Pakistan through a speech in the National Assembly, he added.

Ambassador Moghaddam commended the efforts and arrangements made by the government to facilitate the visit of the Iranian President, underscoring the importance of such high-level exchanges in strengthening bilateral ties.

He expressed appreciation for Minister Pirzada about his speech in the National Assembly upon the Iranian President’s recent visit to Pakistan.

Moghaddam also highlighted the positive outcomes of the visit, including the release and transfer of Pakistani prisoners held in Iran, as per mutual understanding. He expressed the hope for similar reciprocal actions by Pakistan regarding Iranian prisoners in Pakistan.

The ambassador extended full support to facilitate Pakistani pilgrims visiting holy sites in Iran, emphasizing that they were allowed to travel using their buses and security.

Ethiopian embassy holds business forums in collaboration with KCCI, KATI

KARACHI, May 8 (APP): The Ethiopian embassy in collaboration with Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) on Wednesday conducted two Ethio-Pakistan Business Forums to mobilize the businesspersons, traders and investors for the 2nd Business and Trade Delegation to Ethiopia scheduled for May 26 to 31, 2024.

Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia in Pakistan, presided over those business forums along with the respective presidents of both the trade bodies.

Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula urged the business community of Karachi to take part in the 2nd Business and Trade Delegation to Ethiopia which presented an extraordinary opportunity to connect not only with Ethiopia but the entire Africa.

According to the ambassador, the 2nd Business and Trade Delegation will provide an opportunity to participate in the International Manufacturing Trade Fair where manufacturers from the entire world including Africa will participate.

Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula also shared other details about the 2nd Business and Trade Delegation to Ethiopia which included business forums, meetings with ministers concerned and high officials, visits to the industrial parks and top-notch tourist sites, and on top of that cultural nights in Addis Ababa.

The ambassador briefed the business community about the comparative advantage offered by the FDR Ethiopia in terms of cheap, clean and sustainable energy, industrial parks, incentives and one-window operations for the investors.

On the other side business community of Karachi assured the Ambassador of their participation in the 2nd Business and Trade Delegation to Ethiopia.

At the KCCI, its President Iftikhar Ahmed Sheikh said the 2nd Business and Trade Delegation to Ethiopia is an excellent opportunity for the business community of Karachi and it is high time for them to enter Africa through Ethiopia.

Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, Chief Executive Officer at Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), stressed the need for exchange of business delegations between the two countries to boost the bilateral trade between Ethiopia and Pakistan.

He lauded the role played by Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula for connecting the two countries with the start of Ethiopian Airlines operations in Karachi.

Meanwhile, Syed Johar Ali Qandhari, President of KATI, called upon the businesspersons and traders to explore lucrative business market of Ethiopia by joining the 2nd business and trade delegation to Ethiopia.

Later, Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula along with the President of KATI and other businesspersons planted trees as part of Ethio-Pakistan Fraternity Under Green Legacy Initiative of Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, to foster the brotherhood between the two nations.

Govt striving to improve quality of education in Balochistan

QUETTA, May 08 (APP): Balochistan Education Minister Raheela Hameed Durrani on Wednesday said that provincial government was taking steps to improve quality of education through elimination of cheating culture from examination centers.

She expressed these views while talking to Chairman Balochistan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BBISE) Mir Ijaz Azeem Baloch while visiting various ongoing intermediate examination centers in respective areas of Quetta City.

She said that cheating in examinations was a scourge which all stakeholders have a joint responsibility to eradicate the source of copying culture from the province because standard of education was essential for development of the province.

The current government was trying to implement transparent examination process in the province in an efficient manner, she noted and added that in the light of the special instructions of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti, steps were being taken to prevent copying in the examination centers across the province.

The minister said that the best arrangements were being made to prevent cheating in the exams saying that you could pass the exam by copying but you could not get the qualification, students, teachers and parents have to play their role to prevent copying culture.

Earlier, the Provincial Education Minister attended the ceremony held to honour the students who secured prominent positions in the examinations last year.

On this occasion, she said that students should keep one thing in their minds for the rest of their lives that what was written as it was not written on degree so be friendly with books and spend your free time reading books, it would increase your knowledge.

In this way, you can make the name of your teachers and parents famous by securing a prominent position in the exams, she noted.
