Leading Pakistani media group publishes 60th episode of BRI column
BEIJING, May 8 (APP): On the occasion of the publication of the 60th episode of BRI Column by one of Pakistan’s leading media group, congratulatory and appreciation messages from bilateral dignitaries have been published.
The felicitation comes from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Prof. Ahsan Iqbal, and Consuls General of China in Lahore & Karachi Zhao

“I am glad to hear that the 60th episode of the Belt and Road Initiative Column will be published on the Nawa-i-Waqt,” Jiang Zaidong, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan wrote in his congratulatory message.
It was further introduced in the message that more than 150 countries and 30 international organizations have signed more than 200 BRl cooperation documents, creating more than 3000 cooperation projects and attracting nearly 1 trillion US dollars of investment. The BRl has truly become the world’s broadest-based and largest platform for international cooperation, the message read.
In particular, it was mentioned that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has now become the earliest, broadest and most effective all-element cooperation project under the BRl, and has become a vivid interpretation of the all-weather friendship between China and Pakistan. Over the past 11 years, CPEC has brought a total of US $25.4 billion in direct investment, 236000 jobs, 510km of highways, more than 8000 megawatts of electricity and 886km of core transmission network, generating a strong impetus to Pakistan’s economic and social development, and bringing real benefits to the local people, it was stressed by the Ambassador.
Zhao Shiren, Consul General of China in Lahore, said in his message : “lt is foreseeable that the next phase of the Belt and Road development will be more open, inclusive and collaborative and more focused on digital, innovative and green development to promote the modernization of the world.
Yang Yundong, Consul General of China in Karachi wrote, over the past 11 years, with efforts from all parties, Belt and Road cooperation has extended from the Eurasian continent to Africa and Latin America. From 2013 to 2022, the total import and export volume between China and the countries involved in the BRl accumulated to $19.1 trillion USD, with an average annual growth rate of 6.4%. Bilateral investment stood at $380 billion USD, that exceeded Chinese outbound direct investment surpassing $240 billion USD.
According to Chief Operating Officer of Nawa-e-Waqt Lt Col (Retd) Sayed Ahmad Nadeem Qadri, the group is publishing research based articles in Sunday magazine on the first Sunday of every month under the title From Silk Road and Belt & Road to CPEC. The 60th episode marks the completion of five years continuous work.
Special Correspondent of the media group told China Economic Net the BRI Column will continue as BRI construction progresses. The BRI corridors have been expanded to the digital area. It is a revolution that connects global regions, he said.
Pakistan beat Canada 5-4 to become a strong final contender
ISLAMABAD, May 08 (APP): Pakistan hockey team on Wednesday defeated Canada 5-4 in their fourth pool match to solidify their position to earn a final spot in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, underway in Ipoh, Malaysia.
With the win, Pakistan has accumulated 10 points in four matches and is now a strong contender for the title.
According to information made available here by Pakistan Hockey Federation, Canada took early lead in the 5th minute with a goal from Sean Davis and another in the 17th minute from Harbir Sidhu. Pakistan’s Abubakar Mahmood scored two goals in the 28th and 29th minutes, levelling the score.
After halftime, experienced goalkeeper Abdullah Ashfaq Khan took over the Pakistani goalpost. Arshad Liaqat, Rana Waheed Ashraf and Ghazanfar Ali scored goals in the 36th, 44th, and 45th minutes, respectively, solidifying Pakistan’s lead.
Canada’s Sean Davis scored a field goal in the 45th minute, and Avijot Butter scored another field goal in the 50th minute, reducing Canada’s goal deficit. However, Pakistan emerged victorious in the end.
Six teams are participating in the event, including hosts Malaysia, Pakistan, Korea, Japan, New Zealand, and Canada. Pakistan will play their fifth and final pool match against New Zealand on Friday.

APPS China opens new horizons for Pakistani medical students & healthcare professionals in China and Europe
BEIJING, May 8 (APP): New APPS China inaugurated at the Embassy of Pakistan in China, has opened new horizons for Pakistani Medical Students and healthcare professionals in China and across Europe.
APPS Global is the largest network of Pakistani doctors, dentists, nurses, scientists, and allied health professionals in the world spanning over 5 continents. APPS started its journey about 20 years ago from the UK as APPS UK. In 2020 APPS Europe was launched and opened branches in all major European countries including Germany. In 2021, APPS Middle East was launched.
The aim of APPS China is to provide a robust platform to Pakistan health professionals and medical students in China so they can collaborate and network for career progression and contribute towards the development of the health systems in Pakistan, China Economic Net reported on Wednesday.
Dr. Abdul Rehman Shahid President of APPS Europe introduced the APPS China initiative and highlighted the members associations in various countries around the globe. In his welcome remark and introduction of APPS China, he said : “They look forward to further meetings with some Chinese institutions who have invited us to visit their centers and discuss possible future collaborations.”
Dr. Muhammad Shahbaz President of China Pakistan Medical Association highlighted the China Pakistan Health Corridor projects, status and opportunities for the students and healthcare professionals in various medical sectors. He also congratulated APPS Global team for the APPS China initiative.
First Secretary Dr. Awais Zafar and Madam Afifa Awais Zafar the Education Attache at the Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing congratulated the APPS team and, in their messages, welcomed the initiative.
