Holding PSL in Balochistan on cards: interior minister

QUETTA, May 07 (APP):Federal Home and Tribal Affairs Minister and Chairman PCB, Mohsin Naqvi, said that national and international sports events can be organized in Balochistan.
“Holding of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in Quetta is being mulled over, he said while addressing a press conference during his visit to Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti Cricket Stadium here on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti, Home and Tribal Affairs Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove, former Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar, and PCB officials accompanied the Minister in the press conference.
The Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also visited the Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti Stadium, where he was briefed by the PCB officials.
Addressing the news briefing, he said “on the special invitation of the Chief Minister Balochistan, he has visited the Akbar Bugti Stadium.
Installation of floodlights was the longstanding demand of the provincial government; he said announcing that the floodlights will be installed within three months.
“The installation of floodlights will help promote cricket and sports activities in the province, which is rich in talent. To a question, he said that the youth of the province will be provided opportunities at the national level.
Earlier, Chief Minister Balochsitan Mir Sarfaraz Bugti extended his gratitude to the federal minister for giving attention to the sports in Balochistan.

PM condoles with UAE President over Sheikh Tahnoun’s death

ISLAMABAD, May 07 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday held a telephone conversation with President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and conveyed heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of his beloved uncle Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohamed Al Nahyan.

The prime minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul as well as patience for the Royal Family to bear this irreparable loss, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

The prime minister said that the people of Pakistan had always held the UAE Royal Family in high esteem and respect, particularly lauding the leadership of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the UAE, who was a great friend of Pakistan.

The UAE president thanked the prime minister for the telephone call. Both leaders reaffirmed their resolve to enhance bilateral ties between the two brotherly countries.

They also agreed to meet soon at a mutually convenient date.

Communications minister directed for timely completion of Ring Road Project

RAWALPINDI, May 07 (APP): The provincial minister Communication and Works, Sohaib Ahmed Bherth on Tuesday directed for timely completion of Rawalpindi’s mega Ring Road project, by utilizing all out human and technical resources adding that the project will provide vast business opportunities to business community.

The minister said this during his visit to project site where he inspected the various sections of the project.

He said that the project would benefit the citizens of Rawalpindi and people of surrounding areas not only for travelling but also for business and trade activities.

Earlier, upon his arrival at the site, Deputy Project Director Ishfaq Sulehri briefed the minster about the completion and the remaining work of the project.

He was briefed that overall 30 percent of the project had been completed while the earth work of the whole project had also been completed.

The minister stressed to maintain the use of quality material in construction work it with the use of quality material. He also cautioned that there would be no tolerance if any negligence in material quality would be found.

Commissioner Rawalpindi, Engr Amir Khatak, on the occasion, instructed the project team for paying full attention on project time management and to remain vigilant in using standardized material.

The minister is paying visit across the province to review the progress and pace of construction works on various projects so that all projects can be completed within stipulated time.

PM for strict departmental proceedings against negligent officials over T&T system

ISLAMABAD, May 07 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed for initiation of strict departmental proceedings against the officials held responsible in an inquiry report for showing negligence in the enforcement of Tack and Trace System (T&T) with flawed planning and inflicting losses to the national economy.

The prime minister chaired a high level meeting over Track and Trace System of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

The system was introduced to monitor production at cigarette manufacturing, fertilizer, sugar and cement industries, identification of counterfeit products and ending of smuggling.

The prime minister observed that due to faulty planning in the system and negligence in its enforcement of the system caused the national economy to suffer.

A report of the inquiry committee formed to probe the issue was presented before the prime minister.

The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers including Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ahad Khan Cheema, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Jahanzaib Khan, Chairman FBR Malik Amjad Zubair Tiwana and other relevant officials. The members of the inquiry committee Secretary Finance Imdad Bosal, Awais Kundi, Nauman Khalid and Babar Majid Bhati also attended the meeting.

The prime minister questioned why certain important provisions were neglected with a haste over the enforcement of the significant national project?

According to inquiry report, project director and member operations inland of that period were found guilty of neglect whereas the report also fixed the main responsibility on the subsequent officials working on those posts.

The FBR chairman working during that tenure was also held responsible for the poor administrative supervision.

The prime minister directed for reviewing the license along with the agreement besides inclusion of provisions with regard to third party audit and alternate system for solution of disputes.

The prime minister also appreciated the inquiry committee for submission of a comprehensive report.

 

SC adjourns IHC judges letter case

ISLAMABAD, May 07 (APP):The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of  in suo motu notice case on letter of six judges of Islamabad High Court (IHC) for indefinite time.
A six-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, and comprising Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Musarrat Hilali and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan heard the case.
During the course of proceedings, the chief justice remarked that pressure could be exerted in every way and they were focusing on that. “It has also become a big pressure that we are relentless,” he added.
He said that some people had taken over the social media and “live court proceedings are our reaction to see for yourselves how the court proceedings are conducted”.
Referring to Article 209 of the Constitution, the CJP said the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) should not be burdened as it was not its responsibility.
Addressing the Islamabad Bar Association’s (IBA) lawyer, the CJP said that the SJC could change the code of conduct. “You should write a good letter to the Council, if they deemed it appropriate they may accept it.”
The IBA’s lawyer Ahmed Hassan Shah said that the responsibility would not be determined without investigation into the matter.
Even for the judges, the method and the law would be the same, he said.
The Supreme Court Bar Association, in its comments submitted to the SC, said it would never compromise on the independence of the judiciary, calling for investigations against those who interfered.
It further said that there was a complete code of conduct regarding the responsibilities and protection of judges.
The SCBA said the IHC had the power of contempt of court proceedings and it should have utilized it. It was beyond understanding that why the high court did not initiate the contempt of court proceedings.
During the hearing, the Karachi Bar Association also submitted its proposals in the case. It said that judges should be bound to inform the competent authority within seven days of any attempt of interference, and the authorities should be bound to ensure the protection of judges.
It said that if anyone gave a false statement then action should be taken against him. The Supreme Court and high courts should set up a special cell for such report.
Later, the case was adjourned.

World Asthma Day observed with awareness events, free health services

ISLAMABAD, May 7 (APP):World Asthma Day was observed in Pakistan on Tuesday, with various events and activities held across the country to raise awareness about the disease and its management.
The theme for this year’s observance was “Asthma Education Empowers,” highlighting the importance of educating people with asthma to manage their condition effectively.
To mark World Asthma Day, hospitals and health organizations across Pakistan organized awareness events, free check-ups, and lung function tests for a chronic respiratory disease that affects over 340 million people globally.
Medical professionals used social media to share information and resources, and to encourage people to seek medical help if they are experiencing symptoms of asthma.
Dr. Azhar Khan, a pulmonologist at Aga Khan University Hospital Karachi speaking at a seminar said in Pakistan, asthma affects an estimated 15 million people, emphasizing the need for greater awareness and education. “Asthma is a treatable condition, but it requires proper management and treatment,” he asserted.
Azhar Khan said by educating people about their condition, we can help them avoid unnecessary hospitalizations and improve their overall health.
In Islamabad an awareness walk was also held to raise awareness about asthma, its management, and treatment, and to empower people with the knowledge they need to control their condition and lead healthy lives.
Senior Consultant Chest Physician Dr Waqas Rasheed speaking at the rally said in our society some people consider asthma as a communicable disease and avoid the company of people who are suffering from it, adding that around 12 per cent of schoolchildren are suffering from asthma in Pakistan.
Asthma is not curable, but it is a controllable disease. A lot of people visit quacks in the hope of getting cured, but they would get only strong doses of oral steroids only to add their serious side effects to the disease, he added.
In Multan, the Department of Pulmonology at Nishtar Medical University (NMU) organized a seminar and awareness walk to mark the occasion.
Led by Dr. Azam Mushtaq, Head of the Pulmonology Department, the walk was attended by medical professionals, nurses, and students, who carried placards with information on the causes, symptoms, treatment, and prevention of asthma.
Experts emphasized the need for timely consultation with a qualified doctor upon manifestation of symptoms to prevent complications.
They also stressed the importance of regular medication adherence to control the disease, noting that asthma is a treatable condition, and with proper treatment, patients can lead a normal life.
In Sargodha district, Specialist Dr. Sikandar Hayat Warraich conducted free check-ups for asthma patients, while lung tests and medication were also provided free of charge.
Dr. Warraich highlighted the challenges faced by allergy and asthma patients during the ongoing wheat harvesting season, which has caused the air quality index to exceed 170.
He emphasized the need for patient education and awareness, and arranged lectures for citizens to educate them about the disease.

Planning Minister leaves for China

ISLAMABAD, May 7 (APP): Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal on Tuesday left for a three-day official visit to China aimed at discussing matters to further strengthen and promote bilateral trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

This marks the high-level inaugural visit of the newly elected government to China, said a press release issued by the Ministry of Planning and Development.

The discussions during this visit will center on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Project (CPEC) Phase-2, engaging with the top leadership of China.

Additionally, the agenda will include deliberations on the thirteenth Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting of CPEC and the visit of the Prime Minister to China.

These discussions are pivotal in shaping the future trajectory of economic cooperation between the two nations, it added.

Seminar on “The Role of Youth in Nation Building: In the Light of Iqbal’s Thought” held

RAWALPINDI, May 07 (APP):A one-day seminar titled “Role of Youth in Nation Building: In the Light of Iqbal’s Thought” was held in collaboration with the National Language Promotion Institute, National Heritage and Culture Division and Message of Pakistan here on Tuesday.
Chairman of Prime Minister Youth Programme (PMYP) Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan presided over the seminar while Muhammad Kashif Irshad, Adviser to the Minister for National Heritage and Culture Division and Director General of Islamic Resource Institute Dr. Muhammad Ziaul Haq were the Chief guests.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of PMYP Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan said that nations who forget their culture, civilization, traditions and language could not progress.
He urged the youth not to be involved in anti-state propaganda on social media and to exercise their responsibility for the stability of Pakistan envisioned by the founders of Pakistan.
“Youth will have to play a role in constructing and developing our country and family in light of Iqbal’s thoughts.”
Adviser to the Minister of National Heritage and Culture Division Muhammad Kashif Irshad said that Iqbal’s message is for the youth that “No matter which school of thought you belong to, you all have to play a  role for the development of the country and the nation.  You will stand up for the country and the nation, otherwise the society will not develop.”
Dr Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq while speaking said that the negative use of social media was destroying social values and the family system which needed to be addressed in the light of the philosophy of Allam Dr Muhammad Iqbal.
The Director General of the National Language Promotion Institute Prof Dr Muhammad Salim Mazhar delivered the welcome speech.  The seminar was attended by teachers, research scholars and students of Islamabad’s NUML University, Fatima Jinnah University Rawalpindi, Hamdard Islamic University and writers, poets and media personalities of the twin cities.
Dr Humira Shehbaz, of the NUML Persian department, Mehboob Zafar of the literary organization “Zawiya”  and former Dean of Islamia University Bahawalpur Dr Shafiq Ahmed also discussed the role of youth in the light of Iqbal’s ideology.
