China hands over Chang’e-6 lunar mission cube satellite data to Pakistan

BEIJING, May 10 (APP): China on Friday delivered the data to Pakistan captured by its iCube-Qamar satellite which was onboard the Chang’e-6 spacecraft, deepening lunar exploration cooperation between the two countries.

China hands over Chang'e-6 lunar mission cube satellite data to PakistanZhang Kejian, head of the China National Space Administration handed the data carrier over to Pakistani Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi at a ceremony held in Beijing. Both unveiled the first image taken by the satellite.

The ceremony was presided over by Chief Engineer of the China National Space Administration Li Guoping.

Representatives from the Department of International Cooperation of the China National Space Administration, the Lunar Exploration and Space Engineering Center, the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Jiaotong University, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission of Pakistan and the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization attended the meeting.

At the ceremony, the Lunar Exploration and Space Engineering Center of China National Space Administration made a report on the mission of Chang’e-6 as the overall project.

The Pakistan Institute of Space Technology made a report on the development of the payload and international cooperation, and Shanghai Jiaotong University reported on the cooperative development of the payload as the Chinese responsible unit.

The cube satellite, known as iCube-Q, was jointly developed by Pakistan’s Institute of Space Technology and China’s Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The Chang’e-6 lunar probe, launched on May 3, carried four international payloads, including ICUBE-Q.

The iCube-Q separated from the Chang’e-6 orbiter on May 8 to carry out exploration activities, such as capturing images of the moon.

NCHD organises blood donation camp

SARGODHA, May 10 (APP):The National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) in Sargodha district organised a blood donation camp for children suffering from thalassemia, here on Friday.
The blood donation camp was arranged with the collaboration of the Social Work Department of University of Sargodha, Police Protection Centre Sargodha, Safe Life Organisation Sargodha, Give Life Foundation and Executive Council of Alumni University of Sargodha.
At the blood donation camp, 24 students from the Social Work Department of the University of Sargodha and other citizens donated blood for free to children affected with thalassemia disease.
Deputy Director NCHD Sargodha Mehr Umar Daraz Jhawari expressed his thoughts by saying that saving the life of one person is as if saving all of humanity.
The NCHD Sargodha would continue to serve humanity with the support of all its stakeholders and welfare organisations, he vowed.

Cabinet committee principally approves 24 entities for Privatisation Programme

ISLAMABAD, May 10 (APP): The Cabinet Committee on Privatisation (CCOP), principally and for the time being, approved 24 State Owned Enterprises for the Privatisation Programme, directing the Privatisation Ministry to deliberate the phasing of each entity in consultation with the respective ministries.

The committee, which met here under the chair of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, was presented with a phased Privatisation Programme (2024-29) by the Ministry of Privatisation, based on the recommendations of PC Board, according to a press release.

The meeting was also attended by other committee members including the finance minister, minister for commerce, minister for privatisation, minister for industries and production, governor State Bank of Pakistan, chairman SECP besides federal secretaries of various ministries and division.

The CCOP recommended that priority shall be accorded to privatisation of loss-making entities while the federal footprint shall be limited only to the Strategic and Essential SOEs under the federal government’s domain.

The CCOP emphasized that even the SOE making profits shall be considered for privatisation. After deliberating on the privatisation policy guidelines, the CCOP considered 84 SOEs in detail in light of SOE Act and Policy.

Following the deliberations, the committee recommended that 40 SOEs, categorized as Strategic or Essential, shall be placed by respective ministries before the Cabinet Committee on State Owned Enterprises (CCoSOE) for their categorization as Strategic or Essential;

Those SOEs which will not be categorized as Strategic or Essential shall be included in the Privatisation Programme, it added.

The CCOP directed Ministry of Privatisation to deliberate the rationale provided by respective ministries for not including 18 SOEs in consultation with them and firmed up proposals regarding each shall be submitted to CCOP in its next meeting.

The CCOP directed all ministries/ divisions to take up their cases of Strategic and Essential SOEs with CCOSOE at the earliest so that a comprehensive phased privatisation programme is finalised in the next meeting of CCOP.

The CCOP also considered the proposal for transfer of 322,460,900 shares of OGDCL from the Privatisation Commission’s CDC’s account to Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division).

The matter was deferred with the direction to Law and Justice Division to holistically examine the provisions of Sovereign Wealth Fund Act 2023 in the instant case and submit its recommendations before the CCOP in its next meeting.

AIOU inks MoU with PDC

ISLAMABAD, May 10 (APP):Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Premium Diagnostic Center, Islamabad (PDC) to provide lab facilities to employees at discounted rates.
Vice Chancellor, of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood presided over the ceremony.
Dr. Nasir said that the welfare and good health of our employees and their families is our priority, healthy person always performs his duties with full zest.
The MoU was signed by Registrar, AIOU, Raja Umer Yunis, and Director, Corporate Relations, PDC, Muhammad Rashid. President, of the Academic Staff Association (ASA), Dr. Iqbal, President, of the Employees Welfare Association (EWA), Yasir Mehmood, the Medical Officer, Dr. Hira, and other employees were also present at the ceremony.
According to the details of the MoU, PDC will provide facilities for Lab tests at discounted rates to AIOU employees and their families, a 50% discount on medical tests, and a 35% discount on radiology.
PDC will also provide free home sample collection service and other health facilities including x-rays and ultrasound at the doorstep.
EWA is actively working for the welfare of the AIOU employees by signing different MoUs and collaborations to facilitate employees. President, EWA, Yasir Muhammad said that we will continue our efforts for the welfare of the employees and AIOU.

Commonwealth acknowledgment reflects PMYP initiatives: Rana Mashhood

ISLAMABAD, May 10 (APP): Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has said that acknowledgment of Commonwealth organization and support in Pakistan’s Youth Development Programmes was a reflection of trust in the government initiatives for empowering youth.
He said this while addressing a press conference along with Technical Adviser to Commonwealth Sushil Ram Chand and Youth Officer Saima Majeed here on Friday.
He said that empowering the youth through financial support was the priority of the government and no compromise would be made on merit to provide equal opportunities to the youth in every field of life.
Rana informed that the Chairmanship of Commonwealth Youth Task Force, Asia Chapter has been awarded to Pakistan for the first time since its formation in 1973, adding recommendations had been forwarded to the honourable delegates of the Commonwealth who are on a visit to Pakistan to set up its regional secretariat in Pakistan to boost the talent and the potential of Pakistani youth.
The Chairman PMYP informed that the National Youth Advisory Council comprising 100 members was being formed on the instruction of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in a transparent manner that would put forward the recommendations on Youth issues to the government.
“The forum will provide an opportunity for the youth of Pakistan to showcase their talents,” he added.
Rana Mashhood further said that Pakistan’s economy was heading towards the right direction after the formation of the new government in office and foreign countries and donors were showing confidence in Pakistan’s economic policies and programs and eager to invest billions of dollars in Pakistan.
The Chairman PMYP added that the inflation was decreasing in the country and work on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was being restored which had stalled during the previous government.
Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan said that the consistently excellent performance of the national hockey team and qualifying for the final after 13 years in the Azlan Shah Cup was a testament to the selection on merit.
He said that with the timely attention of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the issue of hockey team selection had been resolved on merit.
Rana said that the promotion and development of sports are among the priorities of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the PM will award prizes to the national hockey team for their best performance in the Azlan Shah Hockey Cup.
Speaking on the occasion, Technical Adviser to Commonwealth Sushil Ram Chand appreciated the role of Chairman PMYP Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan in fostering a dynamic and inclusive part for the development of Youth with their global partners.

KARACHI, May 10 (APP):Four ships, APL Qingdao, Huang Shan-16, Ginga Caracal and Spring Oasis, berthed at Container Terminal, Liquid Terminal, Engro Terminal and Bulk Terminal respectively on Thursday.
Meanwhile four more ships, MSC Positano, Delta, Federal Iberville and Al-Daayen scheduled to load/offload Container, Rice/Cement, Lentil and LNG also arrived at outer-anchorage of the Port Qasim during last 24 hours.
A total of seven ships were engaged at PQA berths during the last 24 hours, out of them a containers ship ‘APL Qingdao’is expected to sail today afternoon.
Cargo volume of 172,086 tonnes, comprising 118,595 tonnes imports cargo and 53,491 tonnes export cargo carried in 4,340 Containers (3,716 TEUs Imports and 624 TEUs export) was handled at the port during last 24 hours.
There are 06 ships at Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim, out of them three ships, MSC Positano, Federal Iberville and Al-Yaayen carryingContainer, Lentils and LNG are expected to take berths at QICT, FAP and PGPCL on today,while another containers ship ‘Maersk Atlanta’is due arrive at Port Qasim on Saturday.

165,183 women in Sargodha benefiting from BISP programme

SARGODHA, May 10 (APP):Deputy Director Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Sargodha Mazhar Awan said on Friday that 165,183 registered and eligible women were getting quarterly BISP payments of Rs10,500 in the district.
Talking to APP here, he said that 22,540 beneficiaries in Kot Momin, 13,450 in Sahiwal, 72,335 in Sargodha, 16,714 deserving women in Shahpur, 17,034 in Sillanwali, 14,495 in Bhalwal and 8,612 women in Bhera were getting the BISP payments.
He said the BISP tranche for the month of May would be released soon. He said that a survey process under the BISP would continue till June 30, 2024.

Unified efforts to combat dengue in twin cities

ISLAMABAD, May 10 (APP): Deputy Commissioners of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Friday chaired a high-level meeting here at DC Office which was
aimed at synchronizing strategies for dengue prevention in the twin cities.

According to the Spokesman of ICT Administration, the administrations of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have joined hands, in a bid to curb the spread of dengue fever.

The meeting was attended by administrative officers, district health officers, and the CEO of DHA Rawalpindi. Additionally, representatives from CDA, MCI, and relevant departments also participated in the meeting.

The primary focus of the discussions was on collaborative action plans, with particular attention to border areas shared by the two districts. Joint operations will be conducted to target these regions, aiming to eliminate dengue larvae and halt the transmission of the disease.

The decision to coordinate efforts reflects a proactive approach by the authorities to address the pressing issue of dengue fever.
