Punjab CM greets people on Eid-ul-Azha

LAHORE, Jun 17 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz congratulated the Pakistani nation and the entire Muslim Ummah on Eid-ul-Azha, on Monday.
In her message on the auspicious occasion, she said: “May Allah Almighty accept our sacrifices, rendered in His way following the Sunnah of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS).”
The CM said, ”Eid-ul-Azha commemorates unprecedented obedience of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) and the exemplary submission and consent of Hazrat Ismail (AS).”
She said, “The purpose of sacrifice is to create a spirit of self-sacrifice among Muslims.” She prayed, “May Allah protect every Palestinian in Gaza and grant lasting peace to the land of Palestine. May Allah help and protect every oppressed of the world including Kashmiris,” the CM added.

PM, Malaysian counterpart agree to redouble efforts for permanent ceasefire in Gaza

ISLAMABAD, June 17 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Prime Minister of Malaysia Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim have agreed to redouble efforts for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza as well as to ensure provision of essential aid to the innocent Palestinian brethren. 

On the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif exchanged Eid greetings with Prime Minister of Malaysia Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.  

The prime minister conveyed his sincere wishes and prayers for the prosperity and progress of the fraternal people of Malaysia as well as for the Muslim Ummah, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release on Monday. 

While discussing the ongoing crisis in Gaza, the prime minister appreciated Malaysia’s principled and consistent stance on the Palestinian cause, under the leadership of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.  

Underscoring the close and cordial relationship between Pakistan and Malaysia, the prime minister expressed satisfaction on the upward trajectory of bilateral ties.  

The two sides agreed to further strengthen their relations which were marked by commonality of views on all issues of mutual interest.  

The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further broaden the historic ties between Pakistan and Malaysia in all areas of mutual interest, particularly in trade and investment. 

While recalling their recent warm and productive meeting on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum’s Special Meeting in Riyadh in April 2024, as well as two telephone conversations in the last four months, the two leaders underscored the need for maintaining regular high-level exchanges.  

In this regard, Prime Minister Sharif thanked Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for graciously accepting his invitation to visit Pakistan in the very near future. 

On X account, the prime minister said that he was delighted to have spoken with Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia today and exchange warm greetings on Eid-ul-Adha.  

Conveyed best wishes and prayers for the happiness and prosperity of the people of Malaysia. Exchanged views on bilateral cooperation and matters of mutual interest, he said.

CDA disposes off over 1,000 tons of waste; resolves 72 complaints

ISLAMABAD, Jun 17 (APP): The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has collected over 1,000 tons of offals and remains of slaughtered animals from different parts of the city and disposed of in trenches dug on a scientific basis, besides resolving 72 complaints received helpline receiving 82 complaints on the first day of Eid.

A CDA spokesman said in a statement that the ongoing Eid-ul-Adha cleaning operation overseen by the deputy commissioner, has earned praise from the public.

Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa has instructed concerned staff to ensure prompt resolution of all received complaints.

Citizens are delivering animal waste in biodegradable bags, supplied at no cost by CDA, to the cleaning staff. These bags naturally decompose over time.

All facilities, including cold water and food, were being provided to the cleaning staff in the field itself. This was on the instructions of Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad.

Citizens were asked to contact helpline numbers 1334 or 9213908, and telephone numbers 9203216, 9211555, 9223171 for getting waste removal services. Additionally, messages can be sent via WhatsApp or SMS to 0335 5001213.

Govt. committed to addressing desertification, land degradation issues: PM

ISLAMABAD, June 17 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said that in Pakistan, desertification, land degradation, and drought were significant challenges that affected millions of lives and reiterated that the government was dedicated to addressing these issues through sustainable land management practices, reforestation programs, and innovative agricultural techniques.  

“We are committed to achieving land degradation neutrality and enhancing the resilience of our communities,” he said in a message on observance of Desertification and Drought Day 2024 on June 17. 

Today, the prime minister said on Desertification and Drought Day 2024, they came together to emphasize the critical importance of land stewardship under the theme “United for Land. Our Legacy. Our Future.”  

“The day reminds us of our collective responsibility to protect and restore our land for the well-being of current and future generations,” PM Office Media Wing, in a press release, quoted the prime minister as saying.  

However, the prime minister noted that the government action alone was not enough and stressed to foster a collaborative approach involving all stakeholders—communities, civil society, private sector, and international partners. By working together, they could combat land degradation and build a sustainable and resilient Pakistan. 

 “On this Desertification and Drought Day, let us unite for our land, ensuring it remains a vital resource for our legacy and our future,” the prime minister further added. 

Mohsin Naqvi directs CDA chairman to personally monitor for cleanliness operation

ISLAMABAD, Jun 17 (APP): Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi on Monday directed Chief Commissioner/Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Muhammad Ali Randhawa to personally monitor the cleanliness operation in the city.

Following directions from Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa ensured zero waste operation on the first day of Eid-ul-Azha.

There should be no delay in picking up the furniture and disposals it in time, directed Mohsin Naqvi.

The cleanliness situation should be improved in all areas of Islamabad on the first, second and third days of Eid, Mohsen Naqvi directed adding that any public complaint should be acted upon without delay in this regard.

Chairman CDA established a central control room in Islamabad Safe City to monitor of zero waste operation and action upon complaints from citizens.

More than 2500 personnel and more than 200 vehicles and machinery are present in the field during operation.

For the first time, CDA has distributed free biodegradable bags to citizens for the disposal of waste. Biodegradable bags turn into waste naturally after some time.

Implementation of the Cleanliness Action Plan will continue on the second and third day of Eid-ul-Azha.

Ex-Governor sacrificed two big, ten small animals, distributed meat among poor

PESHAWAR, Jun 17 (APP): Ex-Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali sacrificed two big and 10 small animals and distributed them among poor people who invited them to his residence on main Warsak road.
Former Governor Haji Ghulam Ali slaughtered sacrificial animals at his house and celebrated Eid with the local people. The former Governor of Peshawar distributed meat among the poor and poor and also provided them with breakfast.

“I feel happy seeing other people’s children happy,” Haji Ghulam Ali said. The current political situation is not stable, the business community is also unhappy with the budget,” former Governor said.
Economic conditions cannot be corrected without stabilizing the political conditions, Haji Ghulam Ali said. “I have always been a supporter of a peaceful environment and dialogue,” the ex-Governor said.
The federal government should also sit together with the business community and solve the economic problems, the former governor said.

Coordinated operation continue to ensure cleanliness: Mayor Karachi

KARACHI, Jun 17 (APP): The Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Monday said that city administration was working under a comprehensive plan to ensure removal and disposal of offal and other municipal waste to ensure cleanliness in the metropolis during Eid-ul-Azha days.
The Mayor, while talking to media persons after offering the Eid prayers, said that Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC), Town administration and Sindh Solid Waste Management Board were working in close coordination to ensure thorough implementation on the cleanliness plan.
He informed that 99 collection points had been set up in all the 25 towns of Karachi to collect the offal of sacrificial animals while ditches were dug at Jam Jakhro, Sharafi goth and other landfill sites for safely dumping the offal.
He said that around 98000 metric tons of offal of sacrificial animals and 50000 metric tons of solid waste would be collected and disposed of during three days of Eid-ul-Azha.
SSWMB and towns administration were asked to collect and dispose of the offal and other waste efficiently, he said and added “We are trying our best to provide relief to the people on the occasion of Eid.”
The Mayor said that fumigation would be carried out and limestone powder would be sprinkled at the collection points in order to prevent bed odor and ensure hygiene.
Responding to a query Murtaza Wahab informed that section 144 Cr.PC has been enacted to prevent littering of offal on streets and public places and strict action will be taken against the person found involved in such activities.
He further informed that Inspector General of Police Sindh has assured the Chief Sindh that police personnel will be deployed at the waste and offal collection points to provide security to municipal and SSWMB officials engaged in cleanliness operations.

Kamran Tessori offers Eid prayers at Sindh Governor House

KARACHI, Jun 17 (APP): The Sindh Governor, Mohammed Kamran Khan Tessori on Monday offered Eid-ul-Azha prayer at the masjid of the Sindh Governor House of Karachi.
The Consul Generals of various Islamic countries, Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and notables of the city also joined the Governor in the Eid prayers at the occasion.
The Counsel General of the United Arab Emirates, Bakheet Ateeq al Remeithi, the CG of Turkiye, Cemal Sangu, the CG of Bahrain, Abdulllah Ahmed Buqhous, the CG of Iran, Hasan Nourain, the CG of Malaysia, Herman Hardynata Bin Ahmed, the CG of Qatar, Nayef Shahein R. M. Alsulaiti, the Afghan envoy, S.M. Jabbar, and other diplomats attended the Eid prayers at the governor’s house.
After offering the Eid-ul-Azha prayer, the Governor Tessori, along with the Consuls General, offered the sacrifice of camels, bulls, and goats in the Governor House.
The Governor Tessori, accompanied by envoys of Islamic countries, distributed the meat of the sacrificial animals among the people, while ration bags were also distributed among the deserving people at the occasion.
Kamran Khan Tessori, speaking at the occasion, felicitated the nation on Eid-ul-Azha and stressed extending assistance to deserving and destitute people, particularly on the occasion of Eid.
The Consul General appreciated the initiative of the Sindh Governor and said that taking care of the deserving even during Eid  was a commendable act.

CDA launches massive post-Eid cleanliness drive

ISLAMABAD, Jun 17 (APP): The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Monday initiated an extensive in the capital city to remove all sacrificial animal remains and collect thousands of tons of waste generated during Eid-ul-Adha.
The CDA spokesman stated, “Over 2,500 personnel and more than 200 vehicles and machines are deployed in the field to remove garbage and animal waste from every nook and cranny of the city.”
The Authority, along with Islamabad Administration and Islamabad Police, is jointly participating in a special cleaning operation to ensure a clean festival and to prevent inconvenience for people traveling in the city. The plan will continue through the second and third days of Eid-ul-Adha.
The Deputy Commissioner is overseeing all arrangements. The operation is being monitored from the central control room located in Islamabad Safe City, sector H-11.
He said, “Two emergency centers are operational at the Sanitation Directorate in G-6/1-4 and at Fire Headquarters in G-7/4.”
CDA has distributed biodegradable bags to citizens for the first time, intended for disposing of animal waste. These bags naturally decompose into waste over time.
The CDA administration has instructed the public to use biodegradable bags for disposing of sacrificial animal waste and to ensure it is placed in designated areas.
CDA urged the public not to throw animal waste in drains, forests, etc., and advised against putting offal in dustbins and garbage trolleys. Violations will be followed by legal action.
Citizens can call the sanitation helpline numbers 1334 or 9213908 and also contact 9203216, 9211555, or 9223171 to report issues or complaints related to urban sanitation.
“Citizens can send messages via WhatsApp or SMS to the number 0335 5001213. Efforts are underway to promptly address all received complaints,” the spokesman said.
Chairman of CDA and Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa said, “Achieving the desired outcomes relies heavily on citizens’ full cooperation and the strict implementation of the provided guidelines.”
He directed all relevant officers to be present in the field and ensure cleanliness standards.
The chairman stressed the importance of providing support from the control room to the field staff and instructed the ICT, CDA, and police to collaborate effectively in delivering top-notch facilities to citizens.
The chairman of CDA, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, also conveyed Eid greetings to all the residents of Islamabad on his behalf.
