DC for comprehensive crackdown against quacks

KHANEWAL, Jun 11 (APP):Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Ali Bukhari directed officers concerned to launch a comprehensive crackdown against quacks and ensure stern action against them across the district.
Presiding over a meeting of district quality control board on Tuesday, the deputy commissioner said that quacks and the medical stores involved in selling prohibited medicines putting public lives at risk.
 He said that protection of pubic lives was responsibility of the district administration and no negligence would be tolerated in this context.
He urged all deputy DHOs and drugs inspectors to give their best and ensure stern action against the people involved in these illegal practices.
During the meeting, 17 cases were discussed out of which five sent to drug courts, five issues warning and seven fixed for the next meeting.
Additional Deputy Commissioner General (ADCG) Aitzaz Anjum, CEO Health Dr Omer Ghauri and other concerned officers were also present in the meeting.

President Zardari, PM Shehbaz discuss public relief in upcoming annual budget

ISLAMABAD, Jun 11 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday met with President Asif Ali Zardari where they discussed the country’s overall economic situation with a particular focus on extending relief to the people in the upcoming annual budget 2024-25.

Federal Minister for Planning and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal also attended the meeting, according to a President House press release.

President Zardari emphasised that the interests of the low income and middle class should be protected in the annual budget. He also assured the prime minister of his support for the national development and achievement of fiscal targets.

Prime Minister Shehbaz and President Zardari also deliberated on the development projects to be proposed in the next budget.

The prime minister apprised the president of his recent five-day visit to China.

Cardiff University offers fellowship program for BZU’s PhD students

MULTAN, Jun 11 (APP):School of Journalism, Media and Culture, Cardiff University (UK) has offered a fellowship programme for four PhD students from Institute of Media and Communication Studies (IMCS), Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Dr Matt Walsh, the Director School of Journalism, Media and Culture, Cardiff University and Dr Shehzad Ali, the Director Institute of Media and Communication Studies (IMCS) , Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan.
As per MoU, four PhD students from IMCS BZU will have the opportunity to visit Cardiff University for six months, two students will go in the first half of the year and other two in the second half of the year.
The fellowship program is aimed at capacity building of the scholars. The scholar will also be able to collect data and update their knowledge about modern media trends. Similarly, School of Journalism, Media and Culture Cardiff University will reserve slots for the students of IMCS BZU.
The MoU will continue to facilitate students for a period of five years. Each year, four students will visit Cardiff University.
The Institute of Media and Communication will nominate the students following a criterion. However, the eligible students will apply through the Higher Education Commission.
In the recent past, Cardiff University was offering the facility to local students. However, there emerged a gap due to COVID-19. However, once again, MoU was signed.
Ex Director School of Journalism, Media and Culture Dr Stuart Allan played a vital role in the fellowship programme for IMCS BZU students.
Director Institute of Media and Communication Studies Dr Shehzad Ali expressed gratitude to head of School of Journalism, Media and Culture Cardiff University Dr Matt Walsh and Ex Director Stuart Allan for offering an opportunity to BZU students to upgrade knowledge.

Governor urges heads of federal institutions to play role for good governance

QUETTA, Jun 11 (APP):Balochistan Governor Jaffar Khan Mandukhail on Tuesday urged heads of federal institutions that they should play their role to establish good governance and keep the departments free from irregularities.
He expressed these views while talking to the first introductory meeting of the heads of federal departments called on him at Governor House Quetta.
On this occasion, Governor Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandukhail said that the performance of every federal institution should not only be visible but its fruits should also reach the common man.
It is also our responsibility to review the public grievance redressal system and solve the problems being faced by the relevant federal institutions, he said.
He said that Gas over-billing and unannounced load-shedding of electricity should be stopped immediately.
The Governor said that the efficiency could be further improved by increasing the active links between the federal institutions.
During the meeting, many important decisions were also taken as a result of suggestions and recommendations of the heads of federal departments.

Commissioner chairs meeting regarding Eid-ul-Azha arrangements

HYDERABAD, Jun 11 (APP):The Divisional Commissioner Hyderabad Ahsan Ali Qureshi has said that as Eid-ul-Azha approaching fast therefore all relevant departments should make arrangements to provide relief to people on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. Commissioner issued such directives while presiding over a meeting with officers of all relevant department of division in his office.
Commissioner directed Municipal authorities to prepare a comprehensive strategy for disposing of remains of sacrificial animals at specified places and ensuring cleanliness drive and do not allow slaughtering of animals at irrelevant spots so that people could not feel any inconvenience.
Commissioner directed HESCO officers to avoid unannounced load shedding during Eid-u-Azha Holidays. He further instructed to strictly adhere SOPs issued by Local Government department regarding Eid-ul-Azha
The Deputy Commissioner Zain-ul-Aabdeen giving briefing in the media said that the a comprehensive strategy had been devised with the assistance of Solid waste Management  for dumping offals of sacrificial  animals at appropriate places.
DC said that dumping points have been made on Tando Muhammad Khan road side while every possible steps would be taken for ensuring better cleanliness.
The Commissioner also directed relevant Police officers to utilize all resources for maintaining law and order situation in Eid-ul-Azha days.
HESCO officers apprised the meeting that Complaint cells would remain functional during Eid days to ensure uninterrupted power supply to people.  He further said that faulty transformers would be replaced in case of any complaint moved by masses.
Commissioner directed  to accelerate anti theft drive and gear-up recovery process beside taking strict strict legal action against power thieves.

Industrial Estate Flyover to be opened on June 20

MULTAN, Jun 11 (APP):Industrial Estate Flyover will be opened for the general public on June 20 as Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz will inaugurate the project.
The opening of the flyover will not only facilitate the masses but also speed up the business activities in the Industrial Estate. Besides this, the citizens hailing from Rajanpur, DG Khan and Muzaffargarh will follow this route.
Earlier, traffic remained held up for hours due to closure of railway crossing and motorists had to face inconvenience.
Local leader, Pakistan Muslim League (N) Haroon Anjum said that the Punjab government released funds for the timely completion of the flyover.

GSMA Digital Nation Summit to be held on August 7

ISLAMABAD, Jun 11 (APP): Minister of State for Information Technology, Shaza Fatima on Tuesday said that the GSMA Digital Nation Summit would be held on August 7, marking a milestone in Pakistan’s journey towards a digitally empowered nation.

She shared these views while chairing a curtain-raiser meeting for the ‘GSMA Digital Nation Summit’ at the Ministry of IT, according to a news release. The GSMA, in collaboration with the Ministry of IT & Telecom, will organize the event.

The minister said that the government’s vision of transforming Pakistan into a knowledge-based economy where innovation and technology drive economic growth and enhance governance.

Shaza Fatima highlighted that digital transformation was not just a goal but a prerequisite for the nation’s progress.
“By embracing digital technologies, we can enhance productivity, foster innovation, and ensure inclusive growth,”
she said.

She affirmed the government’s commitment to supporting digital innovation and infrastructure development.
The GSMA Digital Nation Summit is seen as a testament to the collective commitment to a digital future.

The chair was briefed about the goals, themes, and expected outcomes of the Summit.

The meeting was attended by Secretary IT Captain (Retd) Muhammad Mahmood, Head of GSMA APAC Julian Gorman, and Country Lead GSMA Saira Faisal.

Additional attendees included Additional Secretary MoITT Aisha Humera Moriani, Member Telecom Muhammad Jahanzeb Rahim, CEO Jazz Aamir Ibrahim, President and Group CEO PTCL & Ufone Hatem Bamatraf, and other representatives from the telecom industry.

LAHORE, Jun 11 (APP):Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Kashif Anwar has expressed his gratitude for the support of the Chinese Consulate In Lahore, which has always patronized the LCCI in every way.
He said that LCCI had been honored with a friendship award by the Chinese Consul General, first for any Chamber in Pakistan, which is a symbol of the strong relationship of the two organizations.
He was speaking at the certificate distribution ceremony for participants in the Chinese language course here at the LCCI here on Tuesday.
Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren was the chief guest of the ceremony while LCCI Senior Vice President Zafar Mehmood Chaudhry, and LCCI Executive Committee members Raja Hassan Akhtar and Fareeha Younis amd Ahmed Elahi were also present. Consul General of China Zhao Shiren and LCCI President Kashif Anwar also inaugurated the recently renovated Jinnah Auditorium at the LCCI.
Kashif Anwar emphasized the importance of maintaining good relations with neighboring countries. He highlighted China’s consistent support of Pakistan during challenging times. He also stressed the need to adopt new technology from China and source raw materials to boost Pakistan’s exports.
Kashif Anwar said that the recent visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to China resulted in several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) being signed, which are expected to attract more Chinese investment to Pakistan.
He said that Chinese language course at LCCI was initially planned for two months, but is now being extended to improve participants’ skills. He commended the Chinese language instructor, Abdul Azeem, for his dedication and efforts.
Zhao Shiren emphasized the role of language in bridging gaps and enhancing mutual understanding, noting that 30 million people worldwide, excluding China, are learning the Chinese language. He urged the Pakistani government to include Chinese in the national curriculum, asserting that the language would play a significant role in the future.
He appreciated the good working relationship between the LCCI and the Chinese consulate during his three years as Consul General in Lahore. He praised LCCI President Kashif Anwar for his leadership, which earned him the friendship award, and assured continued support for the Chinese language students and teachers.

PSX stays bearish, losses 663 points

ISLAMABAD, Jun 11 (APP):The 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) continued with bearish trend on Tuesday, losing 663.07 points, a negative change of 0.91 per cent, closing at 72,589.49 points against 73,252.56 points the previous day.
A total of 372,538,669 shares valuing Rs11.650 billion were traded during the day as compared to 350,721,616 shares valuing Rs10.180 billion the previous day.
As many as 431 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 107 of them recorded gains and 263 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 61 companies remained unchanged.
The top three trading companies were K-Electric Limited with 45,897,256 shares at Rs 4.50 per share, WorldCall Telecom with 33,249,426 shares at Rs 1.29 per share and Pervez Ahmed Company with 29,026,271 shares at Rs 1.19 per share.
Hoechst Pakistan Limited witnessed a maximum increase of Rs 50.98 per share price, closing at Rs 1,500.00 whereas the runner-up was Sapphire Fibres Limited with a Rs 41.45 rise in its per share price to Rs 1,450.00.
Ismail Industries Limited witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs 121.78 per share closing at Rs 1,432.22, followed by Mari Petroleum Limited with a Rs 61.12 decline to close at Rs 2,535.39.

Hazara Police ensures security of hydropower projects

ABBOTTABAD, Jun 11 (APP):Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Hazara police Capt. (R) Tahir Ayub Khan Tuesday has emphasized the significance of the Suki Kinari, Dasu, and Bhasha Hydropower projects for the country’s development and prosperity. He expressed these views while talking to the media at his office.
The DIG further said that Hazara Police is committed to ensure the security of these vital projects, maintaining full coordination with the armed forces.
DIG Hazara Tahir Ayub Khan highlighted ongoing efforts at the police station level to make the Hazara region drug-free. A comprehensive security and traffic plan for the influx of tourists during Eid-ul-Azha has already been prepared, with instructions given to officers not to issue traffic tickets to tourists, adding he said.
While replying to a question the DIG Hazara said that a Citizens Traffic Committee, including all stakeholders, will be established to improve the traffic system in Abbottabad. The committee will comprise representatives from transporters’ unions, lawyers, traders, journalists, citizens and civil society to find real solutions to traffic problems, he said.
Tahir Ayub Khan said that he personally visited the Suki Kinari, Dasu Hydropower Project, Bhasha Dam, and the Tarbela Fifth Extension Project. He stated that the completion of these projects will yield significant benefits at the local, provincial, and national levels. Local stakeholders in Kohistan have also been briefed on the benefits of these projects.
The DIG addressed the serious issue of drug use among the youth, noting that it shatters the hopes of parents and threatens the country’s future. He has directed the police to take serious measures to eliminate drug use and is conducting daily operations against major drug traffickers.
Regarding Eid-ul-Azha, he mentioned that tourists from across the country visit destinations of the region including Nathia Gali, Ayubia, Changla Gali, Naran, and Kaghan. The police have been instructed not to issue tickets and will review the performance of those issuing tickets for commission monthly. Hazara Police is committed to providing the best security facilities to tourists.
To improve traffic in Abbottabad, a Citizens Traffic Committee will be formed, involving all stakeholders to address issues genuinely. He also proposed eliminating illegal bus stops and installing security cameras for monitoring. A help force is available at the police station level for the immediate redressal of citizens’ complaints.
