Governor pays tributes to martyred seven soldiers

KARACHI, Jun 10 (APP): Sindh Governor, Mohammed Kamran Khan Tessori on Monday paid tributes to 7 martyred soldiers in Laki Marwat.

The soldiers, who were martyred included a Captain in an improvised mine explosion, he said in statement.
The governor prayed for the patience to breaved families of the martyrs.

He said that the great sacrifices of our soldiers strengthened the resolve to eliminate terrorism from the country.

The governor said that the entire nation stood by the security forces and was determined to eliminating the terrorists.

2 suspects killed in encounter

BAHAWALNAGAR, Jun 10 (APP):Two suspect were killed in a shootout with police near Baba Farid Bridge here on Monday.
According to the police, they were transporting the outlaws to the area near the Baba Farid Bridge when the accused opened fire on the police team. 
The police retaliated in effective and killed two suspects identified as Siddiq and Zafar.  
The accused managed to escape from the scene during the encounter.
The bodies of the deceased suspects have been shifted to the THQ Hospital in Manchanabad. 
The police are currently searching for the absconding accused.
The suspects were reportedly involved in several serious incidents in the area. 

Three-day international summit on Higher Education inaugurated

ISLAMABAD, Jun 10 (APP):US Chargé d’Affaires Andrew J Schofer along with Chairman of Higher Education Commission Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed  inaugurated the three-day International Summit on Higher Education on Monday.
The USAID-funded summit brings together over 180 Pakistani and American university leaders and faculty to collaborate, exchange knowledge, and build partnerships to improve the quality of higher education and student employability said a news release.
The summit is part of USAID’s $19 million Higher Education System Strengthening Activity that supports 16 Pakistani public universities to improve higher education management, market-relevant instruction, and student support services.
In his opening remarks, Chargé d’Affaires Schofer highlighted the crucial role of higher education institutions in driving Pakistan’s economic development.
“Higher education institutions have an essential role to play in Pakistan’s development. When universities deliver equitable education, provide youth with employment-ready skills, and lead in applied research and innovation, both individuals and society prosper,” he stated.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, appreciated this robust partnership between the University of Utah and Pakistani universities to exchange ideas and share innovations across borders.

Oxford Union President Israr Khan expresses gratitude to PM Shehbaz for his congratulatory remarks

ISLAMABAD, Jun 10 (APP): Newly elected President of the Oxford Union and a Pakistani Student Israr Khan on Monday expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his congratulatory remarks in his election victory.

Israr Khan, who is the third Pakistani and the first from Balochistan province to hold the prestigious position, also extended an invitation to the prime minister to visit the Oxford Union during his term.

In response to the prime minister’s message on X, Israr Khan said “Thank you for the kind words, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. It’s an honour to represent Pakistan. I would be delighted to host you at the Oxford Union during my term”.

He also sought the prime minister’s support in establishing a scholarship scheme at Oxford for students from marginalized backgrounds, on the lines of your remarkable initiatives as Punjab Chief Minister.

“I would also request you to consider revival of student unions in Pakistan. They are essential not only for giving students a voice in university affairs but also for fostering a democratic culture based on dialogue, co-existence, and respect for differences of opinion,” he added.

Israr Khan has been elected Oxford Union President for Hilary Term 2025 with 617 first preferences, winning by a significant margin over Izzy Horrocks-Taylor’s 393 first preferences.

Hailing from Balochistan province, Israr Khan is pursuing a DPhil in Law at Regent’s Park College and served as the Union’s Chief of Staff.
