IRSA releases 489,500 cusecs water
ISLAMABAD, Aug 16 (APP): Indus River System Authority (IRSA) on Friday released 489,500 cusecs water from various rim stations with inflow of 555,900 cusecs.
According to the data released by IRSA, water level in River Indus at Tarbela Dam was 1549.00 feet and was 151.00 feet higher than its dead level of 1,398 feet. Water inflow and outflow in the dam was recorded as 313,000 cusecs and 283,500 cusecs respectively.
The water level in River Jhelum at Mangla Dam was 1212.30 feet, which was 164.30 feet higher than its dead level of 1,050 feet. The inflow and outflow of water was recorded 46,900 cusecs and 10,000 cusecs respectively.
The release of water at Kalabagh, Taunsa , Guddu and Sukkur was recorded as 309,800, 324,500, 385,600 and 350,000 cusecs respectively. Similarly, from River Kabul, a total of 58,300 cusecs of water released at Nowshera and 119,900 cusecs released from River Chenab at Marala.
Public advised to stay vigilant as Zika, Mpox cases continue to rise
ISLAMABAD, Aug 16 (APP):Renowned Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Syed Faisal Mahmood on Friday sounded a warning bell while urging the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against the spread of vector-borne diseases such as Zika, dengue, and mpox.
Talking to PTV news channel, Dr. Mahmood stressed the need for monitoring potential outbreaks and taking preventive measures to minimize transmission risk, adding, Monkeypox a rare and highly infectious disease has been reported in several countries, sparking concerns about its spread.
Dr. Mahmood emphasized that while the risk is low, it is essential to take precautions, especially for those traveling to or returning from affected areas.
He advised individuals to practice good hygiene, avoid close contact with infected persons, and seek medical attention immediately if symptoms arise.
While highlighting the symptoms of monkeypox he said fever, headache, muscle aches, and a characteristic rash or blisters are main symptoms of this disease, adding, anyone experiencing these symptoms to seek medical attention immediately, emphasizing that early detection and treatment are crucial in preventing complications and containing outbreaks.
Dr. Mahmood also highlighted the need for public awareness and education, stating that ‘knowledge is power’ in the fight against infectious diseases.
By understanding the risks and taking simple precautions, individuals can protect themselves and their loved ones from monkeypox and other vector-borne diseases, he added.
Responding a query about Zika disease, Dr also underscored the grave risks associated with Zika virus infection during pregnancy, warning that it can have devastating consequences for unborn babies.
Zika has been linked to severe birth defects, including microcephaly, where babies are born with abnormally small heads and brains, leading to lifelong developmental and intellectual disabilities.
Pregnant women or those planning to conceive are advised to take extra precautions, such as avoiding travel to Zika-affected areas, using insect repellents, and wearing protective clothing to prevent mosquito bites, he added.
Dr. Mahmood emphasized that preventing Zika infection during pregnancy is crucial to ensuring the health and well-being of both mothers and their babies.
To another question, he explained Zika virus infection typically poses a low risk of severe illness, adding, that precautions are still essential to prevent transmission and minimize potential complications.
Pregnant women, in particular, should take extra care to avoid mosquito bites and prevent infection, due to the risk of birth defects, he added.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 16 (APP):Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage and Culture Attaullah Tarar on Friday expressed grief over the death of the mother of Mehran TV bureau chief Mudassar Hussain Rajput.
In a message, the minister expressed sympathy and heartfelt condolences to Mudassar Hussain Rajput and his family. He said he was deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of Mudassar Hussain Rajput’s mother.
Terming the death of the mother as a great loss, Tarar said he shared the grief of the bereaved family.
He prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss with fortitude.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 16 (APP):A powerful explosion ripped through Pir Bala Warsak Road in the early hours of Friday morning, leaving at least two police officials critically injured.
According to details, rescue officials informed that a remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) detonated on Pir Bala Warsak Road in Peshawar, targeting a police vehicle that had just passed by, a private news channelsreported.
According to rescue sources the blast resulted in injuries of least two police personnel, who were rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
In the aftermath of explosion on Pir Bala Warsak Road, rescue teams promptly arrived at the site to provide medical assistance and secure the area, rescue sources added.
Concurrently, police officials initiated a comprehensive investigation into the incident, collecting evidence and eyewitness accounts to determine the circumstances surrounding the blast, police official added.
Foreign tourists are safe in flood-hit Astore: NDMA tells PM
ISLAMABAD, Aug 16 (APP): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Friday informed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that the foreign tourists in the flash flood-hit Astore area were safe and away from the affected area.
The prime minister had directed the NDMA to ensure the safety of the tourists and protect the locals from any troublesome situation.
In a report submitted to him, the NDMA informed the prime minister that the Authority took immediate action on his direction to protect the foreign tourists in the flood-affected area.
It was told that two Italian and an Argentinian tourist were on safe and at a distant location from the affected area.
Besides, the work was underway to ensure the swift restoration of Feena bridge.
As per report, the NDMA and other relevant departments were examining the situation and were on alert to deal with any emergency.
