IG emphasizes NHMP’s commitment in ensuring road safety

ISLAMABAD, Jun 6 (APP):Inspector General, National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) Salman Chaudhary on Thursday emphasized the NHMP’s commitment in building confidence among commuters, ensuring road safety, and enforcing the law equally.
Addressing the trainee ASPs, Salman Chaudhry lauded the NHMP for its honesty, courtesy, and professionalism, noting that these qualities, along with a proactive approach and a spirit of helping those in distress, distinguish the organization.
He highlighted the trust deficit between the police and the public, underscoring the police’s responsibility to protect citizens’ lives and property.
He urged the ASPs to be grateful for their opportunity in this noble profession, emphasizing the need to restore public trust through good performance and attitude.
IG encouraged the trainees to embark on their careers with strong ambitions to serve the public, adding that assisting commuters in distress is a hallmark of NHMP.
The ASPs also toured various NHMP facilities, including the 130-Helpline, the Command and Control Centre, and the NHMP North region, which oversees operations for the N-5 highway.

ISLAMABAD, Jun 06 (APP): Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa has directed the adoption of smart parking management to address the rising influx of vehicles in the federal capital.
Chairing a meeting on the automated parking system, he emphasized it would enhance public convenience and boost revenue.
During the briefing to Chairman CDA, it was conveyed that CDA has commenced implementing smart parking in Islamabad.
The meeting attended by the senior officers of CDA, agreed to install tracker systems on all CDA vehicles to save fuel, improve vehicle monitoring, and address fuel theft complaints.

HU holds workshop on Hijama Therapy

KARACHI, Jun 06 (APP): Former Chancellor of Hamdard University Prof Dr Hakim Abdul Hannan has said the practitioners of Allopathic Medicine nowadays are adopting the principles of Eastern or Unani Medicine even as Muslims, who once excelled in the field, are no longer cognizant of the latter’s efficacy.
He was speaking at the workshop held on Cupping Therapy or Hijama — a method used for removing toxins from human body. The two-day workshop organised jointly by Hamdard University’s Faculty of Eastern Medicine and Shifa-ul-Mulk Hospital concluded on Thursday.
Hakim Abdul Hannan pointed out that in Eastern Medicine treatment of people was traditionally carried out under four heads — namely Ilaaj bil-Tadbeer (Regimental Therapy, including Cupping Therapy), Ilaaj bil-Ghiza (dietotherapy), Ilaaj bil-Dava (pharmacotherapy), and Ilaaj bil-Yad (surgery). Until recently, on the other hand, treatment in allopathy was carried out either through medicines or surgery only.
“But this has changed now. Today the practitioners of allopathy are also using nutrition and Cupping Therapy etc to treat people,” he said. “This change began only about 25 years ago.”
Muslims inherited a far richer legacy than did other nations: yet today they lag behind the latter even in areas that were once their forte. A case in point is Eastern Medicine, he said.
The former chancellor said the Chinese had effectively appropriated Cupping Therapy from Muslims as the former are now widely recognised as those “who gave it to the world”. “The Muslims have lost that legacy as others have forged ahead in that area.”
He said lagging behind others at the moment did not mean that Muslims can’t excell in the field. “We have a legacy of centuries. If we put our mind to it, we can forge ahead of other nations.”
In his welcome address, Hamdard University’s Registrar Kaleem Ahmed Ghias said even allopathic doctors had begun prescribing Cupping Therapy to their patients. The current workshop, he said, was the first one in a series of events to be held in an effort to promote and project Regimental Therapy, including Hijama.
Speaking on the occasion, Dean of the Faculty of Eastern Medicine Prof Dr Ahsana Dar Farooq said the Hamdard Group was a pioneer in more ways than one. It did not just help revive Unani Medicine in the country but also set up a full-fledged hospital that specialises in it.
She said that Unani Medicine goes beyond providing drugs and medicines to those in need. “It takes a holistic view and aims to take care of a person’s overall wellness and health.” She said the group had recently set up a ‘wellness centre’ in Karachi.
Tabeeba Misbah Ahmed also made a presentation on the occasion. The proceedings were moderated by Hakeem Amjad Ismail.

Federal Budget 2024-25 to be presented in Parliament on June 12

ISLAMABAD, Jun 06 (APP): The budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 is set to be presented in the National Assembly on Wednesday, June 12.

A meeting of the chief whips of all political parties in Parliament discussed the schedule for the upcoming budget session. The session is expected to take a break from June 13 to 19, said a news release.

It will resume on June 20, with dates from June 20 to 24 allocated for the general discussion on the budget. The debate on cut motions is scheduled for June 26 and 27, while June 28 is designated for the discussion and approval of the Finance Bill.

The current session of the National Assembly is expected to continue until June 29.

Additionally, it was agreed to continue the debate on the President’s address on June 6 and 7. The meeting also discussed the formation of standing committees and the House Business Advisory Committee.

Dar felicitates nation on Pakistan’s election as non-permanent member of UNSC

ISLAMABAD, Jun 6 (APP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday extended his heartfelt congratulations to the nation on Pakistan’s election as a non-permanent Member of the UN Security Council for the term 2025-26 with overwhelming support of 182 votes.

He said Pakistan looked forward to upholding its commitment to the UN Charter’s vision of preventing war & promoting peace; fostering global prosperity; and promoting universal respect for human rights.

“We remain determined to contributing effectively towards the maintenance of international peace & security in line with UNSC’s mandate,” he said in a post on X.

He also commended the excellent election campaign and teamwork by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan Mission to the UN, and all the missions abroad.

ISLAMABAD, Jun 06 (APP): Windstorm/thunderstorm rain is expected at isolated places of Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Pothohar region during the next 24 hours.
Windstorm/thunderstorm rain is also likely in central/south Punjab, northeast Balochistan and upper Sindh during evening/night.
According to the synoptic situation, a westerly wave was affecting upper and central parts of the country.
During the last 24 hours, rain-windstorm/thunderstorm occurred in Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Hot and dry weather prevailed over other parts of the country.

Two ordinances laid in National Assembly

ISLAMABAD, Jun 06 (APP): The National Assembly on Thursday witnessed presentation of two ordinances in the House which were referred to the relevant committees for further deliberation.
Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar laid the Elections (Amendment) Ordinance 2024 and the National Accountability (Amendment) Ordinance 2024 in the House.
Opposition lawmaker Ali Gohar Khan objected over the presentation of these ordinances and Minister for Law and Justice responded to it, saying that  Ordinance is laid before the Houses (National Assembly or Senate) soon after the start of the proceedings of either House.
As per Rules of Procedures and Conduct of Business in National Assembly 2007, the minister said that an Ordinance laid before the Assembly is deemed to be a Bill introduced in the National Assembly on the day it is so laid.
He said that both legislative proposals have been referred to committees and opposition lawmakers can give their input there and the House has the authority to make amendments in it.

Stage-1 of Greater Karachi Bulk Supply Scheme (K-IV) to complete in 2025

ISLAMABAD, Jun 06 (APP): The stage-1 of the Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme (K-IV) project will likely to be completed in 2025.
Official sources told APP here that rapid work was being carried out on this important project adding that stage-1 260 million gallon per day (MGD) would supply Karachi. Similarly, the stage-2 would supply 390 MGD water to Karachi, they said. Water and Power Development Authority was executing this important project.
They said after completion of both stages a total of 650 MGD would be supplied to Karachi. The cost of the project is Rs126 billion, out of which over Rs40 billion had already spent.
