SARGODHA, Jun 06 (APP):An Irrigation task force caught seven farmers for stealing water from canals, here on Thursday.
According to a spokesperson, during a crackdown on water theft, the task force raided Midh Ranja, Kot Momin, Yarywala village and surrounding areas, and caught seven farmers for stealing water from canals.
They were identified as Ghulam Haider, Asghar, Akhtar and others. On a report of the Irrigation officials, police registered cases against water pilferers.

Shop sealed for decanting LPG illegally

SARGODHA, Jun 06 (APP):A shop was sealed for decanting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at the shop in the area of Mianwali on Thursday.
According to official sources, under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Mianwali Nauman Rana, Chief Instructor Hassan Imran Khan and Instructor Civil Defence Mianwali Bilal Farooq sealed the LPG refilling shop and seized two refilling electric motors.
They also handed over three vehicles to motor vehicle examiners.
Assistant Commissioner Mianwali Nauman Mehmood Rana said “we were striving to ensure protection of people’s lives and to eliminate illegal LPG decanting business from its root”.

Jimmy Engineer emphasizes projecting soft image of country through art, culture

ISLAMABAD, Jun 6 (APP):Internationally acclaimed artist, Jimmy Engineer Thursday emphasized projecting soft image of the country and inculcate positivity in people through the medium of art and culture.
He was speaking during a press briefing held here after signing of an agreement between Jimmy Engineer and Federal Ministry of Education to provide educational institutions access to the Jimmy’s artistic works.
Under the agreement, the digital prints of Jimmy’s art works will be displayed in the educational institutions so that the students can get inspiration from his works.
Speaking on the occasion, Jimmy Engineer Pakistan is a country blessed with beautiful places and great people. “I always ask people of other countries that either they have a person like Abdul Sattar Edhi”.
“Through the paintings displayed in the exhibition continued in PNCA till June 14, I have paid tribute to those people who paid relentless sacrifices for creation of this country and lost their lives before seeing this country. “If we respect sacrifices of these people; our country will be respected”, he said.
“Whenever I visit any country, I always proudly call myself a servant of Pakistan and tell everyone through my works that the people of Pakistan are great and peaceful contrary to what international media portray”, Jimmy said.
Jimmy also announced that he will be donating 700,000 canvas prints in the name of charity all over the world.
Speaking on the occasion, the Federal Secretary for Education, Mohiuddin Ahmed Wani said “Jimmy is a great artist and his paintings have gained acknowledgment worldwide”.
“Through granting copyrights of his paintings to educational institutions, Jimmy has provided an opportunity to the students to benefit from his expertise and learn the intricacies of art as well as the messages behind these inspirational works”, he said.
The federal secretary conveyed that the digital prints of the paintings of Jimmy Engineer will be displayed in the educational institutions of the capital within a month. “We want our children to get inspired from the art and paintings and exercise their skills through art as creative works helps getting away from negative thoughts”
Talking exclusively with APP, the federal secretary highlighted that the education ministry has been taking several initiatives to promote art and culture in the educational institutions of the country through establishing art galleries and conducting art exhibitions and exposure trips for students to create a positive atmosphere in the institutions.
He said that promotion of art and culture in the educational institutions is equally important as sports and technology.
On the occasion, Director General, PNCA, Muhammad Ayoub Jamali said that Jimmy’s efforts for the welfare of Pakistan and its people are commendable.
Jimmy through his innovative work introduced Pakistan in the world of art and also projected the soft image of the country internationally.
Appreciating Jimmy’s initiative of giving copyrights of his art work for the educational institutions, he said this endeavor will inculcate interest of students in art.
Besides officials of Ministry of Education and PNCA, the event was attended by a large number of students and teachers.

Senior Management Course officers visit Sialkot DC officer, get briefing

SIALKOT, Jun 06 (APP):A delegation consisting of 18 officers from the 35th Senior Management Course at the National Institute of Management (NIM) Lahore visited the DC Office here on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Zulqarnain provided the officers with a comprehensive briefing on the district management of Sialkot and the ongoing development projects.
Deputy Commissioner Sialkot Muhammad Zulqarnain emphasised that Sialkot district holds historical significance and is renowned as a modern city with deep-rooted traditions. It stands as the third-largest city in terms of exports in the country, boasting the highest per capita income and literacy rate. He attributed these achievements to the collaborative efforts of the city’s residents and public-private partnerships.
Highlighting the potential of Sialkot’s business model, the Deputy Commissioner suggested that its replication across Punjab and other districts could significantly alleviate the country’s foreign exchange challenges.
He proudly acknowledged Sialkot’s rich cultural heritage, citing eminent figures like Iqbal, Faiz, Amjad Islam, and Zaheer Abbas who hail from the region. The world-class manufacturing of surgical instruments, leather products, cutlery, sports equipment, and garments, with an annual export worth 3 to 4 billion dollars, serves as a testament to the skilled artisans in Sialkot.
The Deputy Commissioner credited the community of Sialkot for pioneering initiatives such as the establishment of the first dry port, airport, and airline in the private sector. He also commended the city’s residents for their exemplary contributions to infrastructure development, particularly the construction of main highways through matching grants from the government.
Furthermore, he lauded Sialkot as a model city for inter-faith harmony, with a diverse population including approximately 700,000 Christians, as well as Sikh and Hindu communities. The spirit of religious tolerance and coexistence among them is commendable.
Recognising the pivotal role of educators in shaping society, the Deputy Commissioner announced the initiation of the Best Teacher Award at the district level to honour dedicated teachers. Additionally, he highlighted the success of free coaching centres in government schools, where 3,000 children receive tuition, resulting in improved academic performance in board exams.
Plans are underway to relocate the Kutchehry to Aimenabad, and progress has been made on the construction of the ring road project to enhance transportation within the city. The ongoing construction of the Sialkot-Kharian Motorway follows the completion of the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway, further facilitating connectivity and economic development in the region.
During the visit, the officers from the National Institute of Management engaged in interactive sessions, posing queries regarding departmental administration and challenges. Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Zulqarnain and relevant officers provided insightful responses to their inquiries.
The officers from NIM expressed their appreciation for the informative briefing provided by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Zulqarnain and presented a commemorative souvenir on behalf of NIM as a gesture of gratitude.

Makhdoom Saeed u Zaman pay rich tribute to poet Ishaq Rahi

In a statement on the occasion of 30th death anniversary of Ishaq Rahi, Makhdoom Saeed said that  Ishaq Rahi  was not only a teacher but was a social activist, writer, poet  as well as sophisticated nature person. Saeed u Zaman said that Ishaq Rahi also remained a part of many literary circles and also strived for bringing advancement in every genre of poetry.
He said that although Ishaq Rahi had separated physically from us but still living in our hearts through his literary contribution.

Child beggars swarm twin cities’ before advent of eid

ISLAMABAD, Jun 6 (APP):The number of child beggars and alms seekers has increased manifold especially in shopping centers and cattle markets  in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad before the advent of Eid-ul-Azha.
The people of the two cities demanded strict actions against those who were involved in child begging and alms seeking.
A citizen namely Muhammad Ashfaq said that alms seekers sometimes became a constant nuisance specially in shopping centers, traffic signals, because people were throng to markets for eid shopping and alleged that no one was taking action against the professional begging.
Similarly, another citizen, Muhammad Imran said that professional child begging was a serious problem in society as minors were involved in beseeching and imploring the citizens especially in markets. He said that when people tried to ignore them, they cursed or abused the people and escape.
When contacted to ICT Spokesman, he said that the ICT administration continuously conducted raids against the child begging.
In recent action, Assistant Commissioners has initiated an operation to curb professional beggars in the Federal Capital.
During the operation, 27 beggars were apprehended and identified as professional beggars. All of them were promptly transferred to police custody, while minors among them were directed to the Edhi Center for appropriate care.
The move underscored authorities’ commitment to maintaining order and addressing social issues in the capital city, the spokesman added.

Customs foil smuggling bid of betel nuts worth millions

KARACHI, Jun 06 (APP):Pakistan Customs thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of hazardous betel nuts from two trailers traveling from Balochistan to Karachi.
According to a spokesman for Customs on Thursday, the Anti-Smuggling Organization of Customs Enforcement Collectorate intercepted the two trailers, which were carrying crushed stone and cement, at the Hamdard check post.
Upon a thorough search, Customs officials discovered 8,000 kg of hazardous betel nuts hidden among the cement bags and beneath the crushed stone.
The estimated value of the seized betel nuts is Rs. 25 million.
Customs officials have confiscated the betel nuts and the trailers and have initiated further investigations.

Trans community empowered through mental, psychosocial training

PESHAWAR, Jun 06 (APP):Mental and psychosocial training helped raise awareness among the trans community of Peshawar of breaking the status quo and learning different skills to opt for a respectful source of livelihood.
Around 20 transgender selected for training expressed their resolve to learn different skills to come out from dependency syndrome of acting in pursuance of the desire of their gurus. The training was conducted by Handicap International, an organisation working for the support of people with disabilities and vulnerable populations, with the collaboration of GIZ.
“We want to perform normal life and for this purpose need support to learn some skills for breaking the status quo,” comments Devia, a trans person and beneficiary of the training. The training has imparted a sense of independence among ourselves and a passion for resolving our problems on our own without depending on someone, Devia expressed her inner feelings.
She said the trans community wanted to find solutions for problems being faced by them but our societal norms and mentality of people does not allow them to come out of routine practices.
Koko, another beneficiary demanded acceptance for their gender by society and respectful response by people. The treatment meted out by people to the trans community has made them mentally ill, forcing them to live in a state of melancholy and dejection, she commented.
Katrina, a trans rights activist, highly commended the initiative taken by Handicap International for steering the transgender community out of a life full of problems, deprivation and disrespect.
She said training has broadened their exposure and confidence in finding out some respectful source of livelihood. The participants of the training are expressing the desire to become fashion designers, get an education and do jobs, Katrina shared.
“This is nine months training and has been launched in six districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” informed Programme Manager Handicap International, Dr Fouzia.
Talking to APP, Dr Fouzia said the initiative will also benefit Afghan transgender who have migrated to Pakistan and living here in different parts of the province.
She said the project implementation period is two years and different programmes will be launched for the benefit of transgender and other segments of vulnerable communities including the victims of devastating floods of 2022. The objective of this training is to change the lifestyle of these communities and make them responsible and respectful citizens.
In this connection, she added, people from different walks of life including religious scholars should also play their effective role of educating people regarding proper behaviour with trans persons.
The training would be expanded soon to other districts of KP including Charsadda, Kohat, Mardan and Haripure, Fouzia informed.

In-laws allegedly kill woman by setting her on fire; IGP takes notice

MUZAFARGARH, Jun 06 (APP):The in-laws allegedly killed the married woman by setting her ablaze in the jurisdiction of Jatoi police station.
According to a police spokesman, the incident took place last night in Basti Bulaili Mouza Jungle Tehsil Jatoi, in which the in-laws allegedly poured petrol over the married woman, Samina Bibi, and set her on fire after subjecting her to severe torture.
Police have registered a case against the woman’s husband, father-in-law, and three brothers-in-law.
It has been reported that Samina Bibi had been married for two years, and there were frequent disputes in the house.
The victim’s family blamed the in-laws for torturing and burning her to death.
Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has taken notice of the incident and sought a report from the Regional Police Officer (RPO) DG Khan division.
He directed the District Police Officer (DPO) Muzaffargarh to oversee the investigation personally.
“Violence against women is intolerable, and those responsible for setting the woman on fire must be arrested immediately. Police started raids for the arrest of the accused,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, Jatoi police registered a case against the accused on the application of the woman’s brother, namely Wajid Iqbal.
According to initial reports, police had taken the husband of the woman named Asif into custody.
RPO Dera Ghazi Khan, Sajjad Hassan Khan, has taken notice of the incident and sought a report from DPO Muzaffargarh.
He directed that the investigation be conducted on scientific grounds with the assistance of forensic teams, ensuring the collection of all relevant evidence.
“Measures will be taken on a priority basis to provide justice to the victim’s family,” he assured.

Robbers loot pharmacy shop

MULTAN, Jun 06 (APP):Two armed robbers looted pharmacy shop’s owner of more than Rs. 200,000 in limits of Gulghast police station.
Police said the armed outlaws wearing surgical masks entered into the drugs house around 12:00 a.m. last night in the guise of customer.
Later after few minutes, they held the owner and the salemen hands up on gunpoint to loot the money.
They snatched the stated money and succeeded to flee away.
According to the shopkeeper as said by the police the burglars were on CD 70 motorbike and escaped to the direction of Head Mohammad Wala.
Upon calling at 15 by the victim, Gulghast Police along with crime scene unit rushed to the crime location to hold enquiry through collecting the evidences.
