PAF issues Eid ul-Azha advisory: Proper disposal of animal remains crucial for flight safety

HYDERABAD, Jun 06 (APP): The flight safety officer of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has issued an alert regarding the disposal of animal remains during the Eid ul-Azha days.
In a statement issued on Thursday, he stated that improperly discarded entrails and other remnants attract vultures and other birds and these birds pose a threat as they can collide with high-speed aircraft, potentially causing catastrophic damage akin to bullets or missiles. Such incidents not only endanger the aircraft and pilots but also risk the lives of the general public.
The announcement urged citizens and local authorities to ensure that animal remains are disposed of at designated locations or buried properly and maintaining a clean environment is essential to safeguard aircraft, pilots and public safety.
The PAF emphasized the public to adhere to these guidelines to prevent any unfortunate incidents and ensure a safe Eid ul-Azha for everyone.

PSX stays bearish, losses 356 points

ISLAMABAD, Jun 6 (APP):The 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed bearish trend on Thursday, losing 356.51 points, a negative change of 0.48 per cent, closing at 73,862.93 points against 74,219.44 points the previous day.
A total of 352,738,992 shares valuing Rs12.312 billion were traded during the day as compared to 348,549,582 shares valuing Rs 16.389 billion the previous day.
As many as 450 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 134 of them recorded gains and 249 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 67 companies remained unchanged.
The top three trading companies were WorldCall Telecom with 17,606,340 shares at Rs 1.31 per share, Kohinoor Spinning with 14,855,744 shares at Rs 4.43 per share and Dewan Motors with 13,692,244 shares at Rs 39.44 per share.
Hallmark Company Limited witnessed a maximum increase of Rs 14.98 per share price, closing at Rs 435.12 whereas the runner-up was Sapphire Textile Mills Limited with a Rs 13.26 rise in its per share price to Rs 1,292.72.
Sazgar Engineering Work Limited witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs 52.72 per share closing at Rs 787.49, followed by Services Industries Limited with a Rs 45.50 decline to close at Rs 929.74.

VC SAU proposes foundation to boost agricultural development in Sindh

HYDERABAD, Jun 06 (APP):Vice Chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam Dr Fateh Muhammad Mari has proposed the establishment of a foundation consisting of retired professors, officers and employees under the supervision of the SAU, with the aim of playing a prominent role in agricultural development. Addressing the farewell program on the occasion of the retirement of Director Admissions Ahmed Khan Mangi here Thursday, the VC hinted at a comprehensive plan to register more than 12,000 farmers.
According to the SAU spokesperson, the Vice-Chancellor said that this initiative had been organized to help farmers through agricultural graduates, who would provide them with important information and support on seeds, nursery, animal breeding and modern agricultural technology and this foundation would be established on the lines of successful projects like Green Pakistan Drive, NLC and Fauji Foundation. We want to leverage the experiences of our senior professors and officers through this, and various related projects will help in making fundraising effective, he said.
Highlighting the responsibility of the 10,000 students studying in the SAU, Dr Mari said that the University had recently registered and signed MoUs with exemplary farmers during the Mango Festival in Mirpurkhas. “Our future plans include registering 12,000 farmers across the country, with a focus on Sindh,” he added. He stressed the need for the University’s academic and research efforts to be closely linked with the farming community.
The ceremony was attended by Dean Dr. Inayatullah Rajpar, Registrar Ghulam Mohiuddin Qureshi, Director Finance Anil Kumar, President of the Officers Association Manzoor Hussain Lakhair, General Secretary Muhammad Ashraf Rustmani, heads of various departments and a large number of officers and staff.

Gilani urges nation to prioritize food safety on World Food Safety Day

ISLAMABAD, Jun 06 (APP): Chairman Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Thursday highlighted the critical importance of food safety for the health and well-being of the nation.

In his message on the occasion of World Food Safety Day 2024 that he said, this year’s theme, “Food Safety: Prepare for the Unexpected,” is especially pertinent in light of the various challenges impacting global food safety.

“Food safety is a critical issue for Pakistan. Contaminated food and water pose serious health risks, affecting millions of Pakistanis and placing a substantial burden on our healthcare system,” he said.

“In our rapidly changing world, unexpected challenges such as pandemics, natural disasters, and climate change can significantly impact our food supply. Therefore, it is imperative that we enhance our food safety measures to protect public health.”

The Chairman emphasized the importance of making all out efforts, said, “We must keep on improving infrastructure, enhancing the capabilities of our food safety agencies, and ensuring strict enforcement of food safety regulations.”

The Chairman also called upon all stakeholders, including farmers, food processors, distributors, and consumers, to play their part in ensuring food safety, said a news release.

“Farmers should adopt safe agricultural practices, food businesses must adhere to stringent hygiene standards, and consumers should remain vigilant about the quality of the food they purchase and consume,” he urged.

“On this World Food Safety Day, let us pledge to work together to create a safer and healthier Pakistan. Through our collective efforts, we can significantly reduce foodborne illnesses and ensure a brighter future for our nation.” he added.
