GIlGIT, Jun 08 (APP): Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan Haji Gul Bur Khan said the provincial government is taking practical steps to empower women in the region. He said that his government was working for the empowerment of women in remote and backward areas. Necessary measures are being taken to improve the literacy rate of women in these areas, he said while talking to representative of UN Women in Pakistan, Lansana Wonneh, who called on the chief minister here Saturday.

On this occasion, the chief minister appreciated the successful organization of the Women’s Summit in Gilgit-Baltistan by the UN Woman and said the government has also enacted necessary legislation in this regard.

The literacy rate of women in Gilgit-Baltistan is encouraging and special support of UN Women is needed to improve the situation of women and increase their literacy rate in the remote areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, he said and added the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan appreciates the interest of UN Women in promoting gender equality and empowering women in the region and will ensure all possible cooperation in this regard. For the first time, he said the government of Gilgit-Baltistan has established a research and policy unit to tackle gender-based issues.

On this occasion, Lansana Wonneh appreciated the efforts of the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan for empowering women and said that the representation of women in the provincial cabinet reflected the government’s vision for women’s empowerment. Compared to other provinces of Pakistan, the UN Women’s work is progressing extremely well in Gilgit-Baltistan, she said.

She also said that the UN Women wanted to work with the government to improve the well-being and empowerment of women in Gilgit-Baltistan, especially in remote and backward areas. In this regard, she said a long-term agreement will be signed with the Sonny Jauri Center for Public Policy. The women of Gilgit-Baltistan have achieved prominent positions in various fields, which is an example for other regions as well, she added.

8th meeting of KP cabinet held, discusses key initiatives to strengthen KP Police

PESHAWAR, Jun 08 (APP): The 8th meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial cabinet, held at the Chief Minister House which was presided over by Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur here on Saturday.

The meeting underscored key initiatives to strengthen the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police, enhance revenue from the mineral sector, and improve the execution of developmental schemes.

CM Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur emphasised the allocation of additional resources to the KP Police to bolster law and order in the province. He also highlighted the need for improved revenue generation from the mineral sector through better structures and processes.

The establishment of the KP Minerals Development and Management Company (KPMDMC) was lauded as a positive step towards responsible mining and international marketing of minerals.

The meeting of the provincial cabinet was attended by Ministers, Advisors, Special Assistants, Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretaries and relevant administrative secretaries.

The cabinet approved the proposal for the establishment and incorporation of KPMDMC, which will focus on exploring, developing, excavating, processing and marketing minerals with an emphasis on mechanized economic excavation.

The Draft bill for amendment in section 116-A of the Motor Vehicle Ordinance, 1965 duly endorsed by the Law and Finance Departments was placed before the provincial cabinet to re-allocate the 25% quota/share of traffic fines from traffic education, awareness, purchase of machinery & equipment to 15% and the remaining 10% to be remitted to the Police Welfare Fund. The provincial cabinet has approved this summary of the Home and Tribal Affairs Department.

To introduce the online payment system and integrate the existing Motor Vehicle Registration System, Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department to introduce a complete IT solution through an MOU with KP IT Board on payment of service charges equitant to one per cent. Agreeing to the proposal the cabinet approved the proposal for one year.

A summary for clearance of compensation cases with respect to property losses of citizens of South Waziristan upper at the cost of Rs. 1.5 billion was presented in the cabinet meeting. The cabinet approved the summary as a non-ADP scheme-AIP titled ‘Citizen Losses Compensation Program South Waziristan Upper’.

The amount will be paid by the Federal Government. The requisition of 500 troops as ex-post-facto sanction and the requisition of 200 new troops as security for foreign nationals working on various projects in Hazara Division was placed before the provincial cabinet for approval.

Legally section 131-A of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898 read with Article 245 of the constitution stipulates that if the provincial government is satisfied that assistance of armed forces is required for the public security, protection of citizens and property, public peace and maintenance of law and order may request federal government to direct any officer of the armed forces to render such assistance.

The Home and Tribal Affairs Department placed a case to allow the inclusion of Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN) and Potassium Chlorate in the definition of Explosives exercising its powers as enunciated in Section 2 (f) clause (iii) and Section 23 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Explosives Act, 2013. This was approved by the provincial cabinet.

A summary of the concurrence of the Provincial Cabinet for obtaining a loan from the Federal Government for the project ‘Flood Protection Sector Project-III was presented in the meeting. The cabinet agreed to the summary in principle and granted concurrence.

Flood Protection Sector Project (III) costing Rs. 194.625 billion over the first five years (2023-28) was recommended by CDWP in its meeting held on 23.05.2023 and approved by ECNEC on 27.06.2023.

A summary of implementation plans for proposed energy conservation measures was placed before the cabinet.

The cabinet as recommended by the Energy and Power Department approved the amendments in Rules of Business, 1985 empowering the Provincial Electric Inspectorate to enforce NEECA Laws, rules, regulations, instructions, guidelines, codes in respect of Energy Conservation in all the sectors across the province.

The Agriculture Department presented a proposal for the reconstitution of the Pakistan Tobacco Board which was approved. As the tenure of the board has expired on 23-01-2014, the Ministry of National Food Security & Research, Islamabad has requested the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province for the nomination of three progressive tobacco growers to be notified as members of PTB for the next tenure under section 3(1)(b) and one official member under 3(1)(d).

A panel nominated by the Search and Nomination Council for non-official members of the Boards of Governors Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Foundation was placed before the cabinet. The cabinet approved the names of Dr Shabana Haider as Chairperson and Hasnain Khurshid Ahmad, Muhammad Yahya, Anam Saeed and Dr Sobia Sabir Ali as members.

A summary of the appointment of PEDO members in different committees was presented before the cabinet. As recommended by the Policy Board the cabinet approved the names of Aziz Raza for Renewable Energy and Hamood-ur-Rehman for Finance committees respectively.

Recommendations for members of the Board of Directors of WSSC Swat and Mardan were presented before the cabinet which were approved. A summary of the Up-gradation of Teachers of Special Education Institutions and Welfare Homes from BPS-17 to BPS-18 in light of Peshawar High Court Judgement was placed before the cabinet which was approved.

An executive summary for the revision of pay scales of the teachers working in institutes of the handicapped was presented in the cabinet meeting. Agreeing to the proposal the cabinet approved the award of scale to pay effect (BPS-17) to the 32 teachers from the date of acquiring of degrees.

The Zakat, Usher, Social Welfare, Special Education and Women Empowerment department presented a proposal in the meeting for requesting Rs. 2.7 million supplementary grants-in-aid to clear the outstanding amount under Drug Free Peshawar Program Phase II. Under this program 240 drug addicts have been rehabilitated.

The proposal of the Finance Department to adopt the revised MP Scales Policy 2023 of Finance Division Islamabad was placed before the cabinet which the cabinet approved to be adopted at provincial level. The estimated annual financial implications associated with the proposed revision of Management Position Scales is Rupees 23.537 million based on 14 currently filled posts. The additional annual implication would potentially increase to Rs. 53.436 million if all sanctioned posts are filled in future.

The request for a one-time grant in aid for Rs. 20 million to pay the pending salaries of the employees of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Mobility Authority was presented before the cabinet which was approved. A proposal for a Special Grant of Rs. 667.500 million as payment of 150 kanals of land for the construction of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy at Regi Model Town Peshawar was placed before the provincial cabinet by the Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights Department.

The cabinet formed a committee for needs assessment and presented recommendations before the next meeting of the cabinet. Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights Department placed a proposal for relaxation of the ban to purchase 04 vehicles and allocation of Rs. 39,730,000/- as a supplementary grant.

The cabinet relaxing the ban approved the allocation of funds for the judges of the Peshawar High Court. The vehicle will be purchased in accordance with the terms of the Government of Pakistan, Law and Justice Division, Islamabad guidelines.

A summary for the Transfer of playground 55 kanal from the Education to the Sports Department in District Swabi (Zarobi) was placed before the cabinet. After deliberations on the agenda, the Chief Minister directed the departments concerned to prepare modalities for MoU signing between the Education and Sports Departments for better utilization of the playgrounds keeping in view the future needs and challenges of the adjacent schools.

Payment to the contractor as per arbitrator award for non-ADP for the case M/s Am. Associates vs Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the road from main Khan Songahoo to Kingergalli district Buner was placed before the cabinet.

The Chief Minister constituted a committee to examine this 15-year-old case and provide recommendations to the cabinet for decision. Payment to the contractor as per arbitrator award for non-ADP for the case Muhammad Fayaz vs Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was approved.

A revised policy with respect to the resolution of issues faced by the committee under the Deputy Commissioners during the distribution of assets and liabilities under section 121-A of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act 2012 was presented before the cabinet which was approved.

The Annual Budget (2023-24) of the Pakhtunkhwa Highway Authority was presented before the cabinet by the Communication & Works Department which was approved. However, this will be subject to audit as prescribed in the rules.

The annual report of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Authority for the year financial 2021-22 was placed before the cabinet to be allowed for placement before the provincial assembly which was approved. A summary with respect to the cancellation of the Plot measuring 10 marla in respect of the Senior Clerk of the Establishment Department was presented before the cabinet which was approved.

The senior clerk was declared successful in the ballot category of 10 marla plot in Government Servant Quota in Jalozai Housing Scheme Phase –III. However, he did not deposit a 10% down payment which was mandatory on his part as a result plot No. 670-A was cancelled by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Housing Authority.

The posting of Dr Qaisar Zaman senior lecturer/demonstrator in MTI Khyber Girls Medical College Peshawar was approved by the cabinet.

KARACHI, Jun 08 (APP): Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori has said that he invites the spiritual leader of Dawoodi Bohar Jamaat, ,Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin to come to Karachi, and in this regard, he will soon write a letter to him and request him to spend Muharram Haram in Karachi.
He expressed these views in a meeting with a four-member delegation of Dawoodi Bohra Jamaat at the Governor House here on Saturday.
Kamil Younis, Ali Asfar Jamali, Hussain Kamal and Mustansar were included in the delegation.
The Governor further said that the services of Dawoodi Bohra Jamaat in the national economy are commendable.
The delegation said that free education of IT courses to the youth in the Governor’s House is a great achievement.

ISLAMABAD, June 08 (APP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkiye Hakan Fidan on Saturday called for concerted international efforts to end the Israeli aggression and genocide of Palestinian people and for a two-state solution for lasting peace in the Middle East.

The foreign minister met his Turkish counterpart on the margins of the Extraordinary Meeting of the D-8 Council of Foreign Ministers held in Istanbul, Turkiye, Foreign Office Spokesperson said in a press release.

The deputy prime minister and foreign minister commended Turkiye for taking the lead to convene the Extraordinary Meeting of the D-8 Council of Foreign Ministers to discuss the dire situation in Gaza resulting from Israeli aggression since October 2023.

Deputy Prime Minister Dar and Foreign Minister Fidan underscored the exemplary bilateral relations between Pakistan and Turkiye rooted in commonality of faith, culture, and history and agreed to further strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.

The Turkish foreign minister congratulated deputy prime minister on Pakistan’s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Dar expressed Pakistan’s appreciation for Turkiye’s support and the desire for working together to uphold international law and the UN Charter.

Turkish envoy calls for increasing bilateral trade to $5bn

FAISALABAD, Jun 08 (APP): Pakistan and Turkiye must adopt a focused approach to enhance cooperation particularly in the field of IT, AI, education, health and tourism to increase bilateral trade from $1 billion to $5 billion, said Turkish Ambassador in Pakistan Dr Mehmet Pacaci.
Addressing the business community in the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) here on Saturday, he said that both countries enjoy exceptional cordial relations at government to government, people to people and business to business level but despite all these plus points, the volume of the bilateral trade is dwindling at only 1 billion dollar. “We must collaborate with each other to utilize the untapped potential”, he asserted.
He also mentioned the humanitarian aid extended by Pakistan during the earthquake in Turkiye and said that both countries are supporting each other particularly on Kashmir and Cyprus issues.
He said that Turkiye was also dolling out liberal educational scholarships to Pakistani students while steps are also being taken for the exchange of faculty members.
Earlier, Dr Khurram Tariq, President FCCI, welcomed the Turkish Ambassador and his team. He briefly introduced Faisalabad and said that FCCI was playing its role in resolving issues being faced by its members in addition to striving hard for the socio-economic development of Faisalabad.
“We intend to create an IT and AI conducive eco-system which could not only benefit this city but to Pakistan and even to the Islamic world also”, he added.
About Pak-Turkiye relations, he expressed satisfaction but urged to enhance the volume of bilateral trade proportionate to friendly relationships. He said that Istanbul airport is one of the busiest airports in the world while Turkiye is making tremendous progress in the field of technology.
He said that he was trying to promote Turkish technology in Faisalabad and hence there must be a Turkish Commercial Office in Faisalabad to give quantum jump to Turkish technology.
He also mentioned the joint venture of Ralle Cheese Unit in Faisalabad and said that its entire production is exported.
Senior Vice President FCCI, Dr Sajjad Arshad, in his concluding remarks, thanked the Turkish envoy and urged to introduce liberal visa regime for FCCI members and their families.
Mian Muhammad Adrees, former President FCCI and FPCCI, also endorsed the idea and said that the visa recommendation mechanism could be implemented initially for a few months on a trial basis to further fine-tune it in accordance with the requirements of the Turkish embassy.
Dr Khurram Tariq said that FCCI was already implementing a visa recommendation regime with the Chinese embassy and on the same pattern, it could be launched with the Turkish embassy.
He also assured to provide double guarantee in addition to fulfilling other required formalities.
Mr. Nurettin Demir, Commercial Counselor of Turkiye, said that the consulate was not issuing visas but the embassy was providing visas to the business community on a top priority basis.

Seamless Hajj operation enables Pakistani pilgrims to focus on spiritual journey

MAKKAH AL MUKARRAMAH, Jun 8 (APP): A month-long pre-Hajj flight operation, which began on May 9, is proceeding smoothly, providing Pakistani pilgrims with comprehensive facilities to concentrate on their spiritual journey and prayers in the holy cities of Saudi Arabia.

“So far, 65,000 pilgrims have arrived via 243 flights under the government scheme, while more than 36,402 have arrived under the private scheme,” Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony spokesman Muhammad Umer Butt said on Saturday.

He said the overall Hajj operation was continuing as per schedule and all Pakistani pilgrims who arrived in the holy land were performing their routine prayers in complete peace and discipline under the vibrant facilitation of the Pakistan Hajj Mission and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

He advised the public to avoid rumours creating confusion regarding any discomfort to guests of Allah Almighty.
Meanwhile, Joint Secretary (Hajj) Sajjad Haider Yaldram, in a video message, requested Pakistani pilgrims to use the ministry’s online mobile service, ‘Pak Hajj App,’ to lodge their complaints or suggestions, instead of manual ones.

“All the online complaints and suggestions are directly monitored by the Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony and all senior officers to ensure their prompt resolution,” he said.

The joint secretary noted that if any pilgrim found themselves unable to lodge online complaints, they should approach the PHM Moavins deployed at each residential building for facilitation. He added that the back of the pilgrims’ lockets also contained the numbers of the complaint cell.

He explained that complaints could be lodged through the Pak Hajj App, WhatsApp, or by calling the Pakistan Hajj Mission’s helpline toll-free numbers: 00923376510003, 00923376510004, 00923376510005, and 00923063332555.

Under the Complaint Management and Monitoring System, he noted, all pilgrims are just a click away from registering any kind of complaint. He added that all complaints are handled under a vibrant ecosystem, routing them in real-time to the concerned officers.

“As soon as a complaint is lodged, it appears on the dashboard/mobile phone screen within no time, with the proper zone officer monitoring it live”, he said.

Sajjad Yaldram recommended that pilgrims switch off the Wi-Fi on their phones for improved efficiency of the Ufone SIMs provided under a complete Hajj package, to stay in touch with their families back in Pakistan. He added, “There is sufficient mobile data in the Ufone SIM which will last throughout the Hajj period.”

The Pakistan Hajj Mission (PHMM), under the supervision of the Director General (Hajj) and six directors heading different departments, is overseeing the overall Hajj operation in Saudi Arabia.

Spokesman Muhammad Umer Butt informed that the ministry has deployed 375 doctors and paramedical staff and 511 assistants in Makkah, Madinah and Jeddah to provide maximum facilities to Pakistani pilgrims.

CM approves Punjab’s first-ever livestock card & farmers’ guidance App

LAHORE, Jun 08 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the Punjab Livestock Card project which will grant Rs250,000 interest-free loans for animal feed.
The CM presided over a meeting here on Saturday relating to livestock in which important projects were granted approval. The chief minister directed to simplify the stages to acquire loans for the livestock farmers along with formulating a scheme for dairy farming in South Punjab. The CM said, “We want to put livestock farmers of Punjab on the path to economic independence.”
The participants were apprised during the meeting that prospects to provide loans on soft instalments to males and females for dairy farming in the rural areas of South Punjab will be reviewed. Over 40,000 farmers will be granted loans through the Punjab Livestock Card.
Over 400,000 animals will be available for meat export through the Punjab Livestock Card scheme. The farmers will be provided with facilities to undertake free tagging of animals, free insemination services along with wanda (feed) and silage quality testing facilities.
The farmers will be provided with a soft loan worth rupees 270,000 through the Livestock Card for wanda, silage and mineral mixture facilities in Punjab. The farmers can pay their loan in 90 days through the Punjab Livestock Card. The livestock care will be facilitated through ‘Animal Identity Traceability System’ in Punjab.
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Provincial Minister for Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain, Special Assistant Rashid Nasrullah, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Secretary Livestock and other relevant officers attended the meeting.

PTDC two-day int’l symposium to explore economic prospects

ISLAMABAD, Jun 8 (APP): The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) in partnership with the World Bank Group will organise a two-day Pakistan Travel and Tourism Symposium scheduled to be held at the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) here from June 10 to 11.
Talking to APP, the PTDC official said that the Tourism Symposium would be a two-day event focused on the theme of Building a National Economy through tourism.
He further said that the symposium would be organised to showcase Pakistan’s rich tourism potential to create government-to-government (G2G), business-to-business (B2B) and G2B linkages among the industry stakeholders.
He said that PTDC intended to bring together more than 400 national and international tourism professionals, industry experts, and decision-makers to share their ideas for the development of a future road map for the sustainable growth of the tourism industry of the country.

BEIJING, June 8 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s five-day visit of China and his meetings with top Chinese leadership and Chinese government officials have received extensive coverage in electronic and print media.
The prime minister has been in headlines of Global Television Network (CGTN) and CCTV, China’s prominent English and Chinese language news channels; and newspapers such as Global Times, China Daily, People’s Daily, China Economic Net and a large number of other Chinese newspapers and news websites.
China state-run Xinhua News Agency interviewed the prime minister ahead of his visit while the Global Times published the prime ministers’ op-ed.
The international media based in Beijing also followed engagements of the prime minister in the Chinese capital.
PM Shehbaz held meetings with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, Chairman Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Zhao Leji, Heads of key government departments and addressed Chinese and Pakistani entrepreneurs at Pakistan China Business Forum held in Shenzhen.
A number of Chinese scholars commented on various aspects of the prime minister’s visit on television and contributed news articles in the newspapers.

XI’AN, Jan 08 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said that the government would send a batch of 1,000 students to Yangling Agricultural Demonstration Base, China for seeking the latest training in agriculture field.

The prime minister decided that the government would bear their expenses and directed the Ambassador of Pakistan in China and other relevant officials to give a final shape to this decision in consultation with the Chinese authorities, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.
