KMU, UK Consortium sign MoU to train KP nurses

PESHAWAR, Aug 19 (APP):Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar following an initiative by the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Ali Amin Gandapur, and in collaboration with the health department, has entered into an agreement with SAME RPS, UK.

The agreement was signed by Vice Chancellor KMU Meritorious Professor Dr. Zia Ul Haq and Dr. Ejaz Hussain representative of SAME RPS UK at the Chief Minister’s House in the presence of Provincial Minister of Health Syed Qasim Ali Shah, Dr. Khalil chief HSRU and Registrar KMU Inamullah Wazir were also present at the occasion.

It is worth mentioning that this partnership will provide advanced training for KP nurses through faculty from esteemed medical schools in the UK.
The Chief Minister aims to elevate the standards of nursing care in KP to meet international benchmarks.

The Government of KP will fund the training for 503 public sector nurses to enhance nursing care across the region.
The UK team commended the facilities and initiatives at KMU and committed to training 503 public sector and 196 private sector nurses in seven batches over the coming year.

Housing Ministry to review rental ceilings of residential accommodations

ISLAMABAD, Aug 19 (APP): The Ministry of Housing and Works has instructed the Director General of Pak-Public Works Department (PWD) to review the rental ceilings for residential accommodations in six major cities.
The PWD has been tasked with conducting a thorough survey of market rental rates in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, and Quetta.
The based on the survey results, the department will adjust or revise the rental ceilings as necessary.
The department has been directed to submit the survey report to the Ministry within a week.

Health minister chairs provincial outbreak committee meeting

PESHAWAR, Aug 19 (APP):Health Minister Syed Qasim Ali Shah presided over a crucial meeting of the Provincial Outbreak Committee in Peshawar, emphasizing the importance of public precautions and social distancing to prevent the spread of diseases.

He urged the media to collaborate with the Health Department in raising awareness about monkeypox virus,vaccination and other vital health measures.

In response to potential outbreaks, the Health Department has established Rapid Response Teams and is setting up isolation wards across districts. The current patient, who arrived in Pakistan on August 10, has been isolated at the Hayatabad Medical Complex. Genetic sequencing revealed that the patient had contracted the virus, prevalent in West Africa.

A Provincial Control Room has been established at the Directorate General of Health Services, with additional district-level control rooms in the works. All healthcare staff in the province have received guidelines and case management instructions.

Screening areas have been designated at Bacha Khan International Airport and Torkham Border, with staff deployed for thorough passenger checks. Over 10,000 passengers have been screened at the airport and more than 5,000 at Torkham Border.

Additionally, private hospitals have been informed through the Health Care Commission, and an isolation ward has been established at MTI Mardan in response to the ongoing situation.

CM Bugti awards heroic driver for rescuing family trapped in flood

QUETTA, Aug 19 (APP): Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Monday announced cash reward to the vehicle driver for immediately rescuing the family trapped in the flood relay in Killa Abdullah area of the province.

The Chief Minister said that the driver showed bravery and courage by saving the lives of women and children and set a fine example of service to the people.

He said that those who serve the society selflessly were our real heroes.

Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Bugti announced a certificate of appreciation and cash reward to the rescue executor driver for rescuing the family trapped in the flood relay.

10,000 liter spurious milk, 753 liter unhygienic ghee discarded

FAISALABAD, Aug 19 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) seized more than 10,000 liter spurious milk and 753 liter unhygienic ghee besides confiscating machines and other items from different sites in Faisalabad.
A PFA spokesman said here on Monday that a team under supervision of Deputy Director Operations Qasim Raza raided  Okara Road near Bhatta Stop and unearthed a dairy unit where spurious milk was being prepared with chemicals.
The team seized more than 10,000 liter spurious milk in addition to confiscating 251 kilogram powder, sodium, flavors, chemicals, 3 chillers, 7 drums, mixture machines, etc. from the spot.
Meanwhile, the PFA team raided Tandlianwala and Roshanwala Bypass and seized 753 liter unhygienic ghee and 2250 kg fat of butchered animals from illegal fat rendering units.
The PFA team sealed the premises of the units and got cases registered against their owners while further action is under progress, he added.

Farmers advised to start carrot cultivation in September

FAISALABAD, Aug 19 (APP):Agriculture experts have advised growers to start cultivation of carrots with the start of September to get bumper yield.

A spokesman for the Agriculture (Extension) Department said here Monday that carrots were used largely in Pakistan because they are a rich source of vitamins and minerals. Therefore, farmers should cultivate this crop at maximum space of their land because it would also play a pivotal role in mitigating their financial sufferings due to an attractive market price.

He said that farmers should cultivate approved varieties of carrots because seed of hybrid approved varieties helps get maximum production.

He said that September is the most suitable time for cultivation of carrots. Therefore, growers should start its cultivation with the start of September so that they could gain maximum benefits from this crop by getting its healthy and disease-free production, he added.

ICCI lauds government initiatives for developing gemstone sector

ISLAMABAD, Aug 19 (APP):President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, on Monday lauded the government’s directives to develop a comprehensive strategy for gemstone mining in Gilgit-Baltistan, aimed at reducing gemstone wastage.
He noted that authorities had been instructed to devise a strategy for gemstone mining in the Gilgit-Baltistan region within a month, with the goals of minimizing wastage and boosting exports to generate foreign exchange for the country, according to a press release.
Bakhtawari also welcomed the government’s commitment to launching a pilot project in the region, which will align gemstone mining, cutting, and value addition with international standards.
He highlighted that the ICCI is focused on promoting economic activities in the country by improving the ease of doing business and unlocking its vast tourism potential.
He emphasized the importance of leveraging Pakistan’s significant gemstone reserves, particularly in the northern and northwestern regions, which are rich in high-quality stones such as peridot, aquamarine, topaz, ruby, and emerald.
However, he pointed out that 80% of Pakistan’s gemstone exports are in raw form. This underscores the need for internationally recognized certifications to enhance the industry’s development, boost national exports, and create more employment opportunities.

Gold rates dip by Rs.200 per tola to Rs.260,000

ISLAMABAD, Aug 19 (APP): The per tola price7of 24 karat gold decreased by Rs.200 and was sold at Rs.260,000 on Monday compared to its sale at Rs. 260,200 on last trading day.

The price of 10 grams of 24 karat gold also decreased by Rs.172 to Rs.222,908 from Rs. 223,080 whereas the prices of 10 gram 22 karat gold went down to Rs.204,332 from Rs. 204,490, the All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported.

The price of per tola and ten gram silver remained unchanged at Rs.2,950 and Rs.2,529.14, respectively.

The price of gold in the international market decreased by $5 to $2,502 from $.2,507, the Association reported.

Rupee gains 10 paisa against dollar

ISLAMABAD, Aug 19 (APP): Pakistani rupee on Monday appreciated by 10 paisa against the US dollar in the interbank trading and closed at Rs 278.44 against the previous day’s closing of Rs 278.54.

However, according to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of the dollar in the open market stood at Rs 279.60 and Rs 280.30 respectively.

The price of Euro increased by Rs 1.49 to close at Rs 307.49 against the last day’s closing of Rs 306.00, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The Japanese yen went up by 04 paisa and closed at Rs1.90, whereas an increase of Rs 2.29 was witnessed in the exchange rate of the British Pound, which traded at Rs 361.09 as compared to the last day’s closing of Rs 358.80.

The exchange rate of the Emirates Dirham and the Saudi Riyal decreased by 03 paisa each to close at Rs 75.80 and Rs74.19 respectively.

Rescue 1122 provides services in 171 emergencies last week

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Aug 19 (APP):The district’s emergency service- Rescue 1122 handled a total of 171 emergencies over the last week.

Sharing the weekly performance report, the spokesman said on Monday that the Rescue 1122, under the supervision of District Emergency Officer Eng. Faseeh Ullah tackled different kinds of emergencies last week and the victims were provided timely emergency services.

He said the total emergencies included 113 medical, 41 road traffic accidents, two fire eruption incidents, nine violence or bullet injuries and six others.

He said that Rescue 1122 service also provided services in 14 referral-related emergencies including 12 within the district and in two emergencies patients were shifted to other districts.

He said the Rescue 1122 teams were fully equipped with all necessary equipment and they had been efficiently rendering their services during emergencies.
