Pilgrims’ bus accident: Embassy in constant contact with Iranian authorities: Dar

ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (APP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday said that the Pakistan Embassy in Tehran was in constant touch with the Iranian authorities in Yazd city, following a tragic bus accident in which 28 Pakistani pilgrims lost their lives.

The deputy prime minister expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of Pakistani pilgrims who lost their lives.

“We are also gravely concerned about the safety and welfare of injured pilgrims,” he remarked.

Deputy Prime Minister Dar said that he had instructed Pakistan’s Ambassador in Tehran to ascertain the exact situation and provide swift medical relief and recovery services as well as arrange repatriation of dead bodies to Pakistan.

“Our embassy is in constant touch with authorities in Yazd city. We thank the Iranian Government for their assistance and help,” he added.

DC Tank for maximum enrollment of children in schools

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Aug 21 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Tank, Tanveer Khan has underlined the need for making the enrollment campaign a success.
He expressed these views during a visit to the district education office as part of the provincial government’s Awami Agenda initiative.
Accompanied by the additional assistant commissioner the deputy commissioner said that district administration was giving top priority to provide education to all children and in this regard no effort would be spared to make the enrollment drive a success.
During the visit, the DC also checked the attendance of the office staff and instructed all employees to ensure regular attendance.
He also stressed the strict implementation of the open-door policy, ensuring that citizens can freely present their complaints and issues to the authorities.

Mohsin Naqvi expresses deep sorrow over tragic bus accident in Iran

ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (APP): Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed deep sorrow and grief over the death of 35 Pakistani pilgrims in the tragic bus accident in Yazd, Iran.

In a message issued on Wednesday, Mohsin Naqvi expressed heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the families of the deceased pilgrims.

He prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and said that the loss of precious human lives in the bus accident in Iran is deeply saddened.

“All sympathies are with the families of the deceased and the injured”, said Mohsin Naqvi adding that the families of the deceased are equally involved in the grief.

Ayaz, Ghulam Mustafa express grief over tragic incident in Yazd

ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (APP):Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah expressed their deep sorrow and grief over the loss of precious human lives due to an incident that occurred to a bus carrying Pakistani pilgrims in Yazd, Iran.
In their separate messages, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker have lamented over the loss of precious human lives in an unfortunate incident where a bus overturned and caught fire near Taftan-Dehshir Check Point, Iran.
They expressed their heartfelt sympathy with the affected families and termed the loss of precious human lives as irreparable.They said that they share the deep sorrow and grief of the bereaved families.
The Speaker and Deputy Speaker prayed to Allah Almighty to grant the deceased with the highest rank in Jannah and to also grant solace to the bereaved families.

PM directs institutions to accelerate efforts to do away with smuggling

ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday expressing satisfaction over the reduction in the smuggling, instructed the relevant institutions to accelerate their efforts to purge the country of this menace in toto.

The prime minister, chairing a meeting to review the measures for the elimination of smuggling, reiterated that the government would never allow the smugglers to damage the national economy.

He said the government utilized modern technology to curb smuggling and instructed to apprehend the people involved in smuggling, their facilitators and confiscate the transport vehicles used for the purpose.

He also asked the federal Board of Revenue, interior ministry and other relevant departments to improve their coordination and sought a comprehensive strategy to create employment opportunities in the frontier regions.

During the briefing, the prime minister was told that the interior ministry was running a countrywide campaign and effective measures were being taken to curb the smuggling of petroleum products, cigarettes, mobile phones, gold, tea, clothes, commodities, vehicle tires and spare parts.

It was told that web portal to curb the smuggling of urea and sugar had been launched and 54 joint checkposts had been established as per the prime minister’s directives.

A mechanism for identification and mapping of non-custom paid vehicles, and the draft legislation to establish the Pakistan Land Port Authority were in the final stage.

A report on the outcomes of the anti-smuggling drive was also presented in the meeting which said that 212 Afghan transit trade goods at risk of smuggling had been banned and a bank guarantee had been made mandatory for the trade, instead of an insurance guarantee.

It was told that besides essential commodities, the smuggling of petroleum products had also reduced by half and sugar by 80%, besides other eatables.

During the year 2023-24, the smuggling goods worth Rs106 billion were confiscated and the anti-smuggling drive also led to the reduction in hoarding practices.

The participants were also apprised of the action taken against the officers involved in smuggling. It was told that the process to identify the smugglers, their facilitators and transporters was on a fast pace, with the collaboration of NADRA, Excise and other relevant departments.

Federal ministers Jam Kamal Khan, Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Attaullah Tarar, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Dr Musaddik Malik, Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Jahanzeb Khan, PM’s Coordinator Rana Ehsan Afzal and provincial chief secretaries attended the meeting.

Crackdown on illegal oil agencies in Nowshera Virkan

ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (APP):Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Naveed Haider launched an operation against illegal oil agencies in Nowshera Virkan on Wednesday.
According to the AC office, the machines were sealed at two places as a result of the operation on the orders of Deputy Commissioner Gujranwala Muhammad Tariq Qureshi.
Additionally, Assistant Commisioner inspected the cleaning efforts underway at various spots on Chak Road as part of the Suthra Punjab initiative.
He emphasized the importance of cleanliness, citing the Islamic principle that “cleanliness is half of faith,” and urged citizens to cooperate with authorities in maintaining a clean environment.

President grieved over death of Pakistani pilgrims in Iran bus accident

ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday expressed his deep grief over the death of Pakistani pilgrims in a bus accident that took place in Iran.

The president prayed to Allah Almighty for peace for the departed souls, early recovery of the injured, and strength for the bereaved families to bear the loss.

He directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to make arrangements to bring back the bodies at the earliest and ensure timely medical treatment to those injured in the incident.

According to the media reports, a bus carrying pilgrims from Pakistan to Iraq crashed in central Iran, killing at least 28 people and injuring another 23.
