Pakistan has special place in China’s foreign policy, says senior Chinese minister

ISLAMABAD, June 21 (APP): China’s Minister of Central Committee of the International Department of Communist Party of China (IDCPC), Liu Jianchao on Friday said as its “iron brother and time-tested friend”, China accorded a special place to Pakistan in its foreign policy and desired to strengthen the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.

The senior Chinese leader expressed these views in a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, held here in Islamabad.

Liu expressed satisfaction at the steady pace of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and said China would extend full cooperation to Pakistan for the timely implementation of all ongoing and new CPEC projects.

He also lauded the political parties of Pakistan for their steadfast support to CPEC and China-Pakistan friendship.

He reiterated China’s keen desire to further enhance linkages between the Communist Party of China and the political parties of Pakistan.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar appreciated the positive contribution of CPEC to Pakistan’s socio-economic development, and progress and prosperity.

He underscored that as the flagship project of President China’s Belt and Road Initiative, CPEC had led to major transformation in energy security.

Lauding the unanimous political consensus on CPEC in the two countries, Dar expressed Pakistan’s firm resolve to building upon the achievements of CPEC and for its high quality development in its Phase-II.

The two sides agreed to maintain the momentum of high-level engagements and to further enhance communication on important regional and global issues.

Foreign journalists witness high-quality development of Wendeng District in China’s Weihai city

BEIJING, June 21 (APP): A delegation of international media outlets arrived at Wendeng District in Weihai City to conduct on-site visits to Weili Tools Company, Yunxiang Embroidery Workshop, and Yiyang Company.

The Journalists from Russia, South Korea, Pakistan, Hungary and Azerbaijan were on visit to Weihai, East China’s Shandong province to capture the charm of exquisite city through words and lenses.

During the three-day event under the theme China, an Opportunity; the journalists immersed themselves in the rich folk customs and exquisite scenery of the city.

When entering the exhibition hall of Weili Tools Company, the delegation was amazed by digitalized and intelligent tools such as the locked wrench, transformers scissors, and other tools.

An ordinary-looking wrench with a display screen and 5G connectivity received highly praises from the journalists. In the exhibition hall of Yunxiang Embroidery Workshop, exquisite Shandong embroidery pieces caught the eyes of international media outlets.

Not only are there handcrafted, semi-handcrafted embroideries, but there is computerized embroidery, all of which have vibrant colors and delicate designs, reflecting the profound cultural heritage of Shandong embroidery.

The delegation was deeply impressed by the exquisite craftsmanship.

Engro fertilizers completes largest-ever EnVen plant turnaround with investment of approx. $50 mln

ISLAMABAD, Jun 21 (APP):Engro Fertilizers has invested approximately USD 50 million in a plant turnaround to enhance its reliability and operational efficiency and the company successfully completed the largest-ever scheduled maintenance activity for the EnVen Plant, spanning 55 days, as planned on June 18, 2024.
Established in 2011 with an investment of USD 1.1 billion, the EnVen Plant has an annual production capacity of 1.3 million tons and is the most energy efficient fertilizer plant in Pakistan, with the lowest consumption of gas per ton of urea, said a news release.
The project scope of the turnaround included over 5,000 technical activities, including the first-ever replacement of the waste heat boiler, overhaul of the furnace convection section, ammonia storage tank inspection and a comprehensive overhaul of six major turbo trains and gas turbines.
At peak, more than 6,000 people were engaged round-the-clock at the Plant site for these turnaround activities.
According to Ali Rathore – CEO of Engro Fertilizers, “The safe and successful completion of this major turnaround, despite extreme weather conditions, showcases the engineering excellence of the Engro Fertilizers team in executing large-scale projects within planned schedules and budgets, while prioritizing the safety of everyone involved in the activity. These critical projects were executed in-house by our talented engineers using innovative techniques and global best practices of safety and quality.”
He added that, “The meticulous planning and execution ensured that the availability of urea to our hardworking farmers was not impacted, demonstrating the entire Engro Fertilizers team’s firm commitment to our purpose of enabling the food security of Pakistan. 885 people provided emergency service during Eidul Azha days

SARGODHA, Jun 21 (APP):Rescue-1122 provided emergency service to 885 people affected in various accidents/incidents
during the three days of Eidul Azha in the district.
District Emergency officer Sargodha Mazhar Hussain Shah told APP that his department received
4615 calls during Eid holidays including 960 calls of emergency, 173 of road accidents, 25 of quarrels,
648 of medical related, 18 of fire incidents and 68 miscellaneous. The rescue teams also provided
first aid to 668 people.
He said, over 550 rescuers were deputed on Eidul Azha duty and were well equipped with motorbike
ambulances and other necessary gadgets.
He also said that 40 patients from rural centers were shifted to DHQ hospital.

Passports Directorate continues departure procedures for pilgrims at Halat Ammar

ISLAMABAD, Jun 21 (APP):The General Directorate of Passports continued to finalize departure procedures for the pilgrims through the Halat Ammar crossing in the Tabuk Region after they completed the 1445 Hajj.
According to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Directorate emphasized its readiness at various international ports to finalize departure procedures for the pilgrims.
“Passport platforms have been reinforced with manpower and technical devices to provide all necessary services to facilitate their departure smoothly and efficiently,” it added.

WHO announces global resurgence of cholera

UNITED NATIONS, Jun 21 (APP): The UN World Health Organization (WHO) has announced a spike in cholera in several regions of the world, with almost 195,000 cases and over 1,900 deaths reported in 24 countries since the start of this year.

The agency’s Eastern Mediterranean Region reported the highest number of cases, followed by the African Region, the Region of the Americas, the Southeast Asia Region, and the European Region.

There were no reported cases in the Western Pacific Region, it said in a bulletin.

The UN health agency said it exhausted its global stockpile of Oral Cholera Vaccines (OCV) by March but was able to exceed “the emergency target of five million doses in early June for the first time in 2024.”

Yet, the supply of the vaccine does not equate to its demand.

WHO reported that since January last year, 16 countries requested 92 million doses of OCV – almost double the 49 million produced during that time.

WHO, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and other partners are working together to use resources to find long-term solutions for cholera.

On the positive side of health news, WHO announced on Thursday that Chad successfully eradicated “sleeping sickness” as a public health problem.

The agency applauded the Government and people of Chad for eradicating the gambiense form of human African trypanosomiasis, (also known as sleeping sickness).

“I congratulate the government and the people of Chad for this achievement. It is great to see Chad join the growing group of countries that have eliminated at least one neglected tropical disease (NTD),” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General.

In eliminating the disease, Chad joining some 50 others globally that have succeeded in this endeavour.

“The 100-country target is nearer and within reach,” Tedros added, referring to the target set out in the road map for address neglected tropical diseases by 2030.

“Sleeping sickness can cause flu-like symptoms initially but eventually causing behaviour change, confusion, sleep cycle disturbances or even coma, often leading to death,” it was pointed out.

“Improved access to early diagnosis and treatment, as well as surveillance and response has proven that countries can control and eventually eliminate transmission,” Who said.

PM vows all-out support for KP’s development

He expressed these views in a meeting with Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, who called on him here at the PM House.

The meeting discussed the matters related to the development of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Father, son found dead

FAISALABAD, Jun 21 (APP):A man and his son were found dead in their house here on Friday.
On information, police entered the home in Street No 6, Muhallah
Fatehabad, in the jurisdiction of Peoples Colony police station
and found bodies of Manzoor aka Bagga (50) and his son Azhar.
Both were addicts and likely to be died of overdose.
Police removed the bodies to the mortuary for autopsy.
Further investigation was underway.

Rain played havoc in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR, Jun 21 (APP):Wind storm accompanied by heavy rain has played havoc in Hasilpur area of Bahawalpur district at night between Thursday and Friday.
The weather took sudden change in Bahawalpur region on Thursday evening and speedy winds started blowing which later were followed by intermittent heavy rain. Reports reaching here suggested that wind storm accompanied by heavy rain had damaged trees and few electricity poles in Hasilpur area of Bahawalpur district.
The rain also damaged an electricity transformer in Hasilpur area. However, the teams of the district management and Multan Electricity Company (MEPCO) were seen engaged in fixing the electricity problems caused by wind storm and heavy rainfall.
Bahawalpur city has also received heavy rain which chocked sewerage system in few areas of the city. The rainwater was seen accumulated at several points on important city arteries. However, the teams of Municipal Corporation Bahawalpur have reached the spots to drain out the accumulated rainwater.
Heavy rains have lashed in several other parts of the region including Khaipur Tamewali, Qaimpur, Lal Suhanra, Dera Bakha, Sama Satta, Yazman and others. Rain also lashed in Cholistan desert area. Meanwhile, the local Met Office has forecast that the region might receive more rain during next 24 hours. The rain has dropped temperature and made weather pleasant.
