Two dacoits held; stolen mobiles, cash recovered

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Jun 13 (APP): The district police on Thursday claimed to have arrested two dacoits involved in multiple cases of robberies, in the limits of Cantt and City police stations.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) City Circle Muhammad Adnan told that following the directions of District Police Officer Nasir Mehmood, the district police have tightened a noose around anti-social elements and traced multiple dacoity incidents that took place in the jurisdictions of Cantt and City police stations.
A police team led by SDPO City Circle Muhammad Adnan along with Station House Officer (SHO) City police station Zeshan Iqbal and SHO Cantt Arslan Khan Gandapur arrested two dacoits named Junaid son of Javed and Taib Ullah son of Latif, residents of Tank.
It is worth mentioning here that the police have already arrested the ringleader of the dacoits gang named Bilal son of Badi-u-Zaman, a resident of Tank. The police have also recovered all the mobile phones and Rs 400,000 cash snatched during the dacoity incidents.
SDPO City Circle Muhammad Adnan said the protection of life and property of people was the prime responsibility of police which would be fulfilled at any cost.

KU Syndicate approves to establish campus’s medical and dental college

KARACHI, Jun 13 (APP): The Syndicate meeting of the University of Karachi in principal approved the proposal of establishing KU’s medical and dental college.

KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi chaired the Syndicate meeting, which was held at the VC Secretariat on Wednesday.

The members recommended submitting a detailed feasibility report along with the objective analysis to the Syndicate members for further deliberation. The conceptual approval to establish KU’s medical and dental college was approved so that the University of Karachi could invite interested parties to the medical and dental college project.

The KU Syndicate approved the minutes of the Finance and Planning Commission meeting dated December 29, 2023, and proposed to revise the budget for 2024-25 at the earliest. The Syndicate also approved the appointments of the chairperson and director(s) in various departments and institutes.

The KU Syndicate also granted permission to the faculty, staff, and employees of centres for a funeral in the campus’s graveyard.

The Syndicate members agreed to award BPS-19 to assistant professor (temporary) to the in-service lecturers BPS-18 based on PhD qualification on the availability of the budgeted posts in the concerned departments.

The Syndicate asked the KU Registrar Professor Dr Abdul Waheed to check the previous syndicate resolution and record for the up-gradation of various non-teaching posts and share his report with the members in the next meeting. The KU Syndicate also approved the suggestion of the Advanced Studies and Research Board to award the MPhil degree to (late) Syed Tanveer Hayder after his demise based on external reports.

Earlier, new members of the Syndicates were welcomed and prayers were offered for the departed souls of the Iranian President Dr Seyed Ebrahim Raisi and KU faculty members.

The KU has recently conferred the Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) in the KU Faculty of Islamic Studies to the honourable President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr Seyed Ebrahim Raisi.

The members also approved the action taken at the last Syndicate meeting and confirmed the minutes of the previous Syndicate meeting. Furthermore, they approved the action taken by the KU vice chancellor.

Punjab govt earmarks Rs 2.6bln for Information & Culture

LAHORE, Jun 13 (APP):The Punjab government has earmarked Rs 2.6 billion under the development fund for Information & Culture sector in the budget for Fiscal Year 2024-25.
According to the budget document, shared with the media on Thursday, an amount of Rs. 2.299 billion has been allocated for new development schemes, while Rs 300 million will be spent on the ongoing schemes.
The Punjab government has allocated Rs 20 million for revamping and up-gradation of halls and art gallery of Lahore Arts Council (Alhamra) (LAC), Rs 20 million for up-gradation of Punjab Museum at the Punjab Institute of Language, Art and Culture, Lahore (PILAC), Rs 34 million for renovation and up-gradation of main office building of Directorate General Public Relation (DGPR) Lahore, Rs 110 million for establishment of Artificial Intelligence Powered Central Media Monitoring Unit at DGPR Headquarters and Digital Media Wing at the divisional information offices in Punjab, Rs 30 million for construction of information complex in Multan and Rs 50 million for establishment of studios for promotion of visual and performing arts in Punjab.

Mirpurkhas prepares for Monsoon season

MIRPURKHAS, Jun 13 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rashid Masood Khan and Mayor Abdul Rauf Ghori have called a meeting on Thursday to review the safety arrangements ahead of the upcoming monsoon season in Mirpurkhas.
According to DC office, during the meeting, the officials acknowledged that Mirpur district was heavily flooded during the last monsoon season.
They emphasized the need to work on a better strategy this year to prepare for the heavy monsoon rains predicted by the Meteorological Department.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that a control room will be established and a complete contingency plan will be set up.
He urged all relevant institutions to also create their own contingency plans to help deal with any emergency situations.
The District Disaster Management Authority has been tasked with compiling a complete list of all available relief materials.
Director Planning and Development has been appointed as the focal person.
The officials also addressed the issue of load shedding which is currently being done for 12 hours a day despite Mirpur being a shedding-free zone.
They called on the HESCO management to improve its performance and ensure uninterrupted power supply, especially after the rains to facilitate the drainage of rainwater.
The Municipal Commissioner, Rafiq Ahmed Sehar informed the meeting that the 7 main drains under the supervision of the Municipal Corporation have been cleaned and a complete contingency plan has been put in place.
The meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, assistant commissioners of all tehsils and representatives from various government departments and social organizations.

East Zone police enhance security measures for cattle market

KARACHI, Jun 13 (APP):The East Zone Police have implemented stringent security measures to ensure the safety of citizens visiting the cattle market and to enhance the security of routes leading to the cattle market.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) – East Zone, Captain Retired Ghulam Azfar Mahesar, conducted an inspection of the police checkpoints.
During the briefing on security arrangements, DSP Sohrab Goth stated that officers were deployed in three shifts across 50 police checkpoints.
The DIGP issued directives to increase mobile patrols at the entrances, exits, and surrounding areas of the cattle market.
He emphasized that the safety of citizens and cattle traders is the top priority.

Pb govt takes “Green” steps to meet climate changes

LAHORE, Jun 13 (APP):The Punjab government has taken another “Green” step to meet climate changes being faced by the country and has allocated healthy amount.
According to the budget speech of Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, a short-term Smog Action Plan has been prepared while an amount of Rs 10 billion has been allocated for SMOG Less and Climate Resilient Punjab.
The CM Punjab Plant for Pakistan programme has already been launched while Rs 8 billion will be spent for this project.
Furthermore, an amount of Rs 49 billion has been allocated for Induction of Eco-Friendly Buses in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur and Multan.
Collectively, Rs 18,500 million have been allocated for 10 ongoing and 15 new schemes of  the transport sector.
