World’s largest solar power project to be launched in Sindh: Energy Minister

KARACHI, Jun 13 (APP): The provincial Energy department and Go Energy Pvt Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for laying off 500 Megawatts floating solar energy project on Keenjhar Lake in Thatta district.

The MoU signing ceremony was held here at a local hotel on Thursday, which was attended by Sindh Minister for Energy Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.

Secretary Energy Mossadiq Ahmed Khan, CEO-STDC Salim Shaikh, CEO-Go Green Amar Ali Talat and Director K-Electric Haris Siddiqui were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the energy minister said that the Go Energy Pvt Limited was working on the project with the cooperation of Sindh Tourism Development Corporation (STDC) and Irrigation Department Sindh. This project is Pakistan’s first and World’s largest solar power project, Shah added.

He said the K- Electric will lay 60 kilometer long 220 KV transmission line from STDC Keenjhar Lake Power Project to K-Electric Grid Station Dhabeji, Karachi. Shah said that K-Electric was the off-taker of the 500 MW floating power project for which K-Electric had provided Letter of Intent (LOI) and Energy Department also provided a Letter of Intent (LOI).

He said that this project was environment-friendly as it would help prevent water evaporation and would be beneficial for aquatic life. Minister said that project will also benefit land conservation, promote green energy in Sindh and also provide source of affordable electricity for general public.

He said this project will boost the economy of Sindh province by creating jobs.
Shah said that Sindh Government is determined and trying hard to utilize these renewable resources at a faster pace and our effort is to reduce the overall basket tariff of NEPRA and make it more affordable electricity for the common people of the country. Apart from tariff reduction, renewable energy will also contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals to create a clean, reliable and sustainable environment and hope to complete the project by the end of 2026.

Secretary Energy Mossadiq Ahmad Khan said that on the special directives of Minister Energy, work was underway on several projects to provide cheap and free electricity to the people.

He added that mini-grid stations will be set up at the district level to provide affordable and environment-friendly electricity to the remote areas of Sindh.
Secretary Energy said the cost of electricity generated from this floating plant will be Rs.15 per unit which will be much low price than other power generation plants. Chief Executive Officer STDC Salim Shaikh said as compared to K-Electric, STDC’s line would not be tripped while STDC’s line losses have never gone above 1.6%, NEPRA has allowed line losses up to 2%.

Go Energy Chief Officer Amar Ali Talat said that Keenjhar is the world’s largest clean water lake where a floating project has been developed with the support of Government of Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Shah and K-electric and the MoU was signed today and he was thankful to all the contributors.

Govt earmarks Rs 1400 million for women development

LAHORE, Jun 13 (APP): The Punjab government has earmarked an amount of Rs 1,400 million for women development sector in the fiscal year 2024-25.According to the budget documents, a sum of Rs 1,080 million has been allocated for on-going schemes, whereas Rs 319 million have been allocated for new schemes in the development budget.
For the ongoing schemes, an amount of Rs 191.62 million has been allocated for the construction of women development office complex in Sabzazar, Rs 147.36 million for the construction of building of working women hostel in Vehari and Rs 114.94 million for the construction of multi-purpose complex, Jubilee Town Lahore was allocated. A sum of Rs 500 million has also been allocated for the establishment of daycare centers through Punjab Day Care Fund (PDCF) Society under the Chief Minister initiative.
For the new schemes, Rs 182.83 million were allocated for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of working women hostels in Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sahiwal, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan. An amount of Rs 50 million was allocated for revenue component of multi-purpose complex Jubilee Town Lahore.

LHC orders to hand over possession of plots to affected journalists

RAWALPINDI, Jun 13 (APP):The Lahore High Court(LHC) Rawalpindi bench on Thursday ordered the administration of Media Town Cooperative Housing Society to give possession of plots to the affected allottees and submit a report on June 27.
The LHC Justice Jawad Ul Hasan while hearing the petition of two journalists Asghar Chaudary and Latif Ch ordered the administration of Media Town Rawalpindi to submit a report to the court on June 27 by giving possession of their plots.
Earlier, the journalists had filed a petition in the LHC Rawalpindi bench arguing that regular plots according to their quota were allotted to them but cancelled by changing the layout plan while Punjab Journalists Housing Foundation and Media Town Cooperative Housing Society were responsible for protecting the plots of its allottees.
The LHC Justice after hearing the case ordered to hand over possession of their plots to the petitioners before the next hearing.

Govt utilizing resources to prevent Congo virus in Quetta: Bakht Kakar

QUETTA, Jun 13 (APP): Balochistan Minister for Livestock and Dairy Farms Bakht Kakar on Thursday said that the provincial government was utilizing all resources to prevent the Congo virus.

He expressed these views while talking to the media after visiting the cattle market established at the Livestock Department.

Livestock Secretary Mohammad Tayyab Lahri wa also present on the occasion.
The minister expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made by the Livestock Department and said that the Congo virus was completely under control and the cases being reported in the media were baseless.

Animals are being brought to livestock markets after spraying to control Congo virus in all districts. The Livestock Department officials, doctors, paramedics are present at each district entry point and animals are not allowed to travel to other districts without vaccination, he said.

Bakht Kakar said that all security arrangements were made before going to the city cattle market, saying that unfortunately, the people were unable to follow the government orders.
He said that cheap animals would also be provided to the people in the livestock market of the Livestock Department where citizens could buy animals of their own choice for Eid-ul Azha sacrifice.

He said that around 13 cattle markets have been set up in different areas of Quetta city and there were doctors and staff to spray the animals at these places. The citizens can file a complaint on the helpline for any complaint. Awareness campaigns have been launched to create awareness among the people, he said. He urged the people to follow precautionary measures while visiting cattle markets.

Commissioner inspects arrangements in Niamoana cattle market

FAISALABAD, Jun 13 (APP): Commissioner Faisalabad Silwat Saeed on Thursday visited Niamoana cattle market and inspected the facilities.
She talked with buyers of animals and inquired about any fee charged from them. She checked the availability of drinking water, waiting areas, parking system, cleanliness arrangements and security system.
She also visited separate sheds of small and big animals besides availability of rescue teams. She cleared that no fee was being charged from sellers and buyers of sacrificial
animals at all sales points in the division, adding that no tolerance would be shown
in this regard.
Meanwhile, presiding over a meeting at her office, she expressed displeasure over the poor quality of construction of road from Satiana Road to Malkhanwala. She also took notice of broken manholes on roads and admonished Water and Sanitation Authorities.

Tahir lauds role of EU for providing IT equipment Balochistan Assembly

QUETTA, Jun 13 (APP): Secretary Balochistan Assembly Mr. Tahir Shah Kakar on Thursday said that the European Union (EU) was providing Information Technology (IT) equipment under considering the needs of the Balochistan Assembly was commendable.
He expressed these views while addressing at ceremony held in the Balochistan Assembly regarding the supply of IT equipment and computers etc to the Balochistan Assembly by the European Union.
Addressing the ceremony, Secretary Balochistan Assembly Tahir Shah Kakar thanked the European Union for providing IT equipment and this initiative would prove a milestone in the partnership between Pakistan and the European Union.
“Apart from this, the provision of the equipment will speed up the legislative process in the Balochistan Assembly and the performance of parliamentary duties will also be effective,” he said.
He said the initiative would be a first step towards fulfilling the EU’s broad commitment and building the foundation for better digital information and better democratic traditions in Pakistan.
“In particular, the European Union will be effective in improving parliamentary performance in Pakistan, we are proud of the European Union that Balochistan is playing an important role and key role in the functioning and duties of the Provincial Assembly and in guiding us,” he said.
He said that we hoped that the EU would take all possible steps to improve the Balochistan Provincial Assembly.
Jeroen Willems, Head of Cooperation of the European Union, while expressing his views at the event, said that through the four-year program, the European Union would try to improve the parliamentary performance of the National Assembly, Senate and Provincial Assemblies in Pakistan, effective legislation in formulating policies and be effective in efficiently revising the budget and expanding it better.
He said that as today was the era of digital world and our endeavor was to introduce new age technology in performing duties in democratic institutions.
“The main objective of our four-year program is to encourage parliamentary development in Pakistan by supporting the basic administrative structures of the federal and provincial assemblies in the discharge of their elected members’ duties and is the construction of editorial skills and knowledge surrounding legislation,” he maintained.
He said that our four-year program was based on friends, first Technical Mentoring Agreement carried out by German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services (PIPS).
“The aim of which is to provide technical and academic guidance through workshops, trainings, events, mentoring and other similar activities,” he said.
He said, “While the second part of the program involves the provision of IT hardware and software tools by the company Bioethics for the better performance of the house’s duties.”

Arrangements finalized to hold Shandur Polo Festival on June 28: Secy

PESHAWAR, Jun 13 (APP):Secretary Tourism and Culture Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Bakhtiar Khan has said that in the light of the instructions of Tourism and Culture Advisor Zahid Chanzeb, all the arrangements for the Shandur Polo Festival have been finalized which will start as per schedule on Friday, June 28, 2024.
Apart from Pakistan, he said tourists from all over the world are welcome to participate in this 3-day extravaganza. He expressed these views while presiding over the review meeting held in the conference room of the Department of Tourism and Culture, on Thursday.
The Secretary Tourism said that top officials of the administration of both the districts of Chitral, including the Deputy Commissioner of Upper Chitral, are constantly reviewing the highways and security arrangements themselves. The Deputy Commissioner of Upper Chitral has also canceled the holidays of the employees at the local level while he is also in constant contact with local people and leaders of Chitral.
He said that immediately after Eid-ul-Azha, various administrative teams of the Department of Tourism and Culture will be dispatched to the venue of Shandur Polo Festival so that the preparations at the Shandur Ground would be made in a befitting manner.
Bakhtiar Khan reiterated that Shandur Polo Festival will be held on the dates announced by Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur. In the 3-day festival, apart from thrilling competitions by polo teams from Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan, artists and singers from these regions will also perform in the musical concerts on local tunes, he added.
Similarly, he said that like every year, stalls of local cultural handicrafts and products will be displayed in the festival.
The closing ceremony of the festival will be held on June 30 at the Shandur Polo Ground, which will feature paragliding and other thrilling artistic demonstrations besides colorful cultural programs and artist performances, he concluded.
Meanwhile, Adviser Tourism and Culture Zahid Chanzeb has expressed satisfaction over the ongoing arrangements and preparations being made in connection with the Shandur Polo Festival.
Zahid Chanzeb appreciated the continuous monitoring of highways and security arrangements by the Deputy Commissioners of both the districts of Chitral.
He directed the authorities concerned to send teams of senior admin officers of tourism department to Shandur after Eid-ul-Azha and ensure to make all arrangements fool-proof in all respects.

Rs. 187bln allocated as non-development budget for police

LAHORE, Jun 13 (APP):The Punjab government has allocated Rs. 187.365 billion as non-development budget for Punjab police in the budget for the financial year 2024-25.
According to the budget document, issued here on Thursday, out of Rs. 187.365 billion, employees related expenses will be Rs. 156.259 billion, including Rs. 71.407 billion for pay and Rs. 84.851 billion for allowances.
While Rs. 20.254 billion had been allocated for operating expenses, Rs. 1.240 billion for employees’ retirement benefits, Rs. 3.888 billion for grant subsidies and written-off loans, Rs. 315 million for transfers, Rs. 2.209 billion for physical assets and Rs. 3.180 billion for repair and maintenance.

Punjab allocates Rs. 842b development budget for FY2024-25

LAHORE,Jun13(APP):The Punjab government has allocated Rs. 842 billion for development budget (Medium Term Development Framework-MTDF) for fiscal year 2024-25 with major allocation for social sector, infrastructure development, production sectors, services sectors, special initiatives and other sectors.
Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman presented the Punjab budget for financial year (FY) 2024-25 in the Punjab Assembly session, here on Thursday.
According to the budget document, following is the break-up of the MTDF for next FY starting from July 1, 2024:
The social sector would get a total of Rs. 280.65 billion, which includes School Education Rs. 42.5 billion, Higher Education Rs. 17 billion, Special Education Rs. 2 billion, Literacy and Non-Formal Education Rs. 4 billion, Sports and Youth Affairs Rs. 7.6 billion, Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Rs. 86 billion, Primary and Secondary Healthcare Rs. 42.6 billion, Population Welfare Rs. 3.8 billion, Water Supply and Sanitation Rs. 8 billion, Social Welfare Rs. 4 billion, Women Development Rs. 1.4 billion and Local Government & Community Development Rs. 61.750 billion.
Under the Infrastructure Development, a total of Rs. 246.8 billion has been allocated and out of which, Roads sector will receive Rs. 143 billion, Irrigation Rs. 25.800 billion, Energy sector Rs. 7.5 billion, Public Buildings Rs. 30 billion and Urban Development Rs. 40.5 billion.
Similarly, the Production Sector will get a total of Rs. 107.850 billion. Under the Production Sectors, the Agriculture will receive Rs. 64.6 billion, Forestry Rs. 4 billion, Wildlife Rs. 6.4 billion, Fisheries Rs. 5.3 billion, Food Rs. 400 million, Livestock and Dairy Development Rs. 9 billion, Industries, Commerce and Investment sector Rs. 10.7 billion, Mines & Minerals Rs. 950 million, and Tourism Rs. 6.5 billion.
The budget document says that a total of Rs. 41 billion will spend on Services Sectors which included Governance & Information Technology Rs. 20.7 billion, Labour & HR Department Rs. 400 million, Transport Rs. 18.5 billion, and Emergency Service (Rescue-1122) Rs. 1.4 billion.
A hefty grant of Rs. 101.5 billion has been earmarked for Special Programmes/Initiatives during the FY 2024-25.
A grant of Rs. 64.2 billion will be spent on various other sectors such as Environment & Climate Change Rs. 10 billion, Information & Culture Rs. 2.6 billion, Archaeology Rs. 800 million, Auqaf & Religious Affairs Rs. 800 million, Human Rights & Minorities Affairs Rs. 4 billion and Planning & Development Rs. 46 billion.

FESCO to ensure uninterrupted power supply during Eid holidays

FAISALABAD, Jun 13 (APP):On the special directives of the Ministry of Energy (Power  Division), Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) Engr. Muhammad Amir has set up emergency centres across the region to ensure the uninterrupted power supply during Eidul Azha holidays while leaves of field staff had been canceled.
According to a spokesperson here on Thursday, a central control room has been set up at FESCO Headquarters under the supervision of the Chief Executive Muhammad Amir.
The staff has also been directed to perform duty 24 hours in three shifts at the complaint centers of the five operation circles of the FESCO region.
A letter containing instructions from the General Manager Operations has been circulated to all Superintending Engineers (SEs), Directors, Executive Engineers (XENs) of the FESCO Region.
In this connection, CEO FESCO Engr. Muhammad Amir says that uninterrupted supply of electricity to consumers will be ensured during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays for which all necessary measures have been adopted. The leaves of all field staff have been canceled while operation/field officers and staff have been ordered to remain on high alert at their respective stations/offices.
Additional transformer trolleys and other equipment have been issued to Sub Divisions to deal with any emergency situation. In addition to power outages, in any kind of fault/tripping or emergency situation, the staff will be present at all times and immediately take steps to restore power supply.
He further said that FESCO is committed to ensure the continued & uninterrupted power supply to the rural as well as urban areas on this joyous occasion of Eid so that they too can celebrate the joy of Eid.
