Pb govt prioritizes wildlife conservation with Rs 6.4 bln Budget allocation

LAHORE, Jun 13 (APP):The Punjab government has allocated a substantial Rs 6.4 billion for wildlife conservation and development in the 2024-25 Budget, demonstrating a strong commitment to the sector.
According to the budget documents, the key initiatives include the establishment of a Zoo
Education and Exhibition Centre in Lahore with a total investment of Rs 800 million, of which Rs 300 million were allocated for the current fiscal year. Additionally, a state-of-the-art Wildlife Hospital will be built at Safari Zoo Lahore, with Rs 700 million designated for this year, out of the total Rs 2 billion project cost.
The Chief Minister Wildlife Rescue Force, aimed at enhancing wildlife rescue efforts, will receive Rs 750 million this year towards its overall Rs 1.5 billion cost. These initiatives reflect the government’s dedication to enhancing wildlife protection and education in Punjab.

US Treasury Dept delegation meets Minister for Power Awais Leghari

ISLAMABAD, Jun 13 (APP): A delegation of the US Department of Treasury led by Assistant Secretary Brent Neiman met Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Leghari here Thursday.

The meeting aimed at exploring potential collaborations in the energy sector, said a press release.

Sardar Awais Leghari said that the reform plan has been chalked out to remove the deficiencies in the power sector. The purpose of these reforms is to improve the energy mix of Pakistan and eliminate other deficiencies of the power sector, it further said.

The minister informed the Secretary that reforms are being implemented to increase private sector participation in the distribution and transmission of electricity in Pakistan. These reforms aim to improve the quality of service being delivered to the people of Pakistan, he said.

Regarding debt management, the minister said that Pakistan has started a programme to replace conventional fan with energy saving one that will save energy and improve the seasonal variation in energy demand.

Sardar Awais Leghari stressed the need for U.S. technical support to address the seasonal generation and demand gap. He also highlighted the importance of American assistance in securing international financing for Pakistan’s power sector at more favorable rates.

The US Assistant Secretary of Treasury appreciated Pakistan’s power sector reform initiatives and assured all possible cooperation to resolve Pakistan’s power sector problems.

RWMC to observe anti-dengue day

RAWALPINDI, Jun 13 (APP):Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC), on the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, will observe the anti-dengue day on Friday to create awareness about the hazards of the dengue virus.
According to RWMC spokesman, the seminars and walks would be organized to mark the day while communication and social mobilization teams of RWMC will visit city areas and apprise the residents about the preventive measures to avoid the deadly virus.
He said that RWMC was making all-out efforts to free Rawalpindi from the dengue.
To eradicate dengue larvae, he said, comprehensive Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs) and an action plan were being followed, and weekly reports were being submitted to the city district government and the government of Punjab.
Furthermore, he urged the residents to keep an eye on junkyards, schools, and under-construction buildings, which led to the spread of dengue larvae, and not to leave any place wet or with stagnant water. In case of any complaint, citizens were asked to register their complaints on helpline number 1139, which would be rectified immediately, he added.

Maryam Aurangzeb greets PM for presenting balanced federal budget

LAHORE, Jun 13 (APP): Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb on Thursday congratulated Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif for presenting a balanced federal budget 2024-25.  She praised PM Shahbaz Sharif for saving Pakistan from default through continuous hard work and now stabilising the economy for the welfare of common man.
In a statement, senior minister Maryam Aurangzeb said that for the betterment of economy, the entire nation, every sector of life, as well as the media fraternity, would have to come together.
She said that tough decisions had brought economic stability to the country and the budget would give a new direction to the economy.
She praised that a significant relief in salaries and pensions would help to counter inflation.
Maryam Aurangzeb emphasised that those who led the country to the brink of default and drowned the people in inflation should be ashamed of criticising the federal budget.

Weather to remain hot in most parts of country: PMD

ISLAMABAD, Jun 13 (APP):The hot weather conditions will continue to prevail across the country with chances of rain at isolated places in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern areas during the next 24 hours as per Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast.
The PMD has said that mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country, while very hot in central/southern parts.
Partly cloudy weather with windstorm/thunderstorm-rain is expected at isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad and upper Punjab during evening/night.
According to the synoptic situation, continental air was prevailing over most parts of the country. A shallow westerly wave was affecting upper parts of the country.
During the last 24 hours, hot and dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country, while very hot in southern/central parts.
Light rain/drizzle occurred at isolated places in Pothohar Region, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.The rainfall recorded was at Dir 01mm.
The highest maximum temperatures recorded were Bhakkar, Nurpur Thal 49, Sibbi 48C, Jacobabad 47, Mandi Bahauddin, Dadu, Gujranwala, Dera IsmaiI Khan, Hafizabad, Jhang, Jhelum, Okara, Narwal 46C.
