Former provincial minister’s car met with accident in Khairpur

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (APP):Former Provincial Minister, Mukesh Chalwa’s car met with an accident on National Highway in Khairpur, a private news channel and police reported on Wednesday.
According to the reports, relatives of the former Provincial Minister were travelling in the vehicle when the accident happened.
The police reached the spot immediately after the incident was reported. The dead body and the injured were transported to the nearby hospital.

AIOU awards financial assistance to 206 students

ISLAMABAD, Aug 07 (APP):Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has awarded final project grants to 31 students and merit-based scholarships to 175 students of BS, MS and PhD programmes of the Spring 2024 semester.
A ceremony was held at the university’s main campus, presided over by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood.
In his address, Dr. Nasir Mahmood stated, “The university is committed to providing quality education as well as financial assistance to ensure that no child in Pakistan is deprived of education.”
He highlighted the university’s financial assistance schemes, including merit-based scholarships, need-based support, earn-to-learn programs, final-year project grants, and free education for students from Balochistan, FATA, and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).
Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood also noted that over the past two years, the university has allocated 120 million PKR to these schemes, benefiting more than 200,000 students.
Chairman of ASSF, Dr. Irshad Ahmad Arshad praised the students’ hard work and dedication. He reaffirmed that the AIOU is committed to bringing quality education to the students’ doorsteps, a commitment that has been recognized internationally.
The Vice-Chancellor not only encouraged the students but also assured them that whenever there is a need for achieving the noble goal of education, the Open University will be at the forefront in providing both financial support and an excellent environment, he maintained.
He commended the dedication of the Directorate of Students Affairs team and congratulated them on organizing a successful ceremony.
The event concluded with the Vice-Chancellor distributing awards to the students and expressing gratitude to the guests and participants.
The ceremony was attended by deans, principal officers, faculty members, students, and their parents.

Provision of best health facilities primary responsibility: CEO Health

RAWALPINDI, Aug 07 (APP):Chief Executive Officer (CEO) District Health Authority Rawalpindi Dr. Asif Arbab Khan Niazi has said that providing quality health facilities to the people is the primary responsibility of the health department. Serving the suffering humanity is a worshiping act, he said.
The CEO said this during his visit to THQ Hospital, Kotli Satian and Primary Health Center, Lehtrar, here on Wednesday.
According to the details, the CEO reviewed the attendance of hospital staff, the record of supply of medicine from the medical stores, cleanliness situation and other issues. He also inquired about the treatment facilities from the patients being provided by the hospital administration.
He asserted that negligence in dispensation of health facilities would not be tolerated.
He directed the concerned administrations to ensure their on time attendance and further improve the cleanliness.

MoU signed to introduce foreign language training in ICT Schools

ISLAMABAD, Aug 07 (APP):A landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on Wednesday between the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTCC), and National University of Modern Languages (NUML).
This agreement paves the way for introducing foreign language training in selected schools of Islamabad.
The signing ceremony was graced by Minister of Federal Education and Professional Training, Dr. Khalid Maqbool, Rector NUML and Secretary Federal Directorate of Education.
As per the MoU, Six-month foreign language course will be imparted to the students of FDE and certificates will be given upon the completion of courses.
The selected schools in Islamabad will participate in the language courses.
This collaboration between FDE, NAVTCC, and NUML aims to equip students with foreign language skills, enhancing their global prospects and fostering cultural understanding.

GIKI and UET sign MoU for enhanced academic, research collaboration

LAHORE, Aug 07 (APP):The Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) and the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday to strengthen collaboration in engineering, science, and technology.

Woman electrocuted

FAISALABAD, Aug 07 (APP):A woman was electrocuted at her house in the area of D-Type Colony
police station.
A Rescue 1122 spokesman said on Wednesday that 35-year-old Aasma Bibi
of Abdullah Colony, Sammundri Road, was trying to switch on a water pump at her
house when she received a fatal electric shock.
The body was handed over to the family after completing legal formalities, he added.

BISE announces results of Matriculation

SUKKUR, Aug 07 (APP):The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Sukkur on Wednesday announced the results for 10th grade, with an overall matriculation pass rate of 92.93%.
According to official figures, Muhammad Ahmed Son of Akhtar Hussain Samo secured the first position with 1024 marks, followed by Muhammad Ahmed Shaikh with 1023 marks. Similarly, Muhammad Asad and Muhammad Rafique jointly secured the third position with 1020 marks each.
Controller of Examinations Abdul Fatah Mahar provided detailed insights into the results, revealing that out of the 50139 students who appeared, 50132 successfully passed, yielding an overall pass percentage of 92.93%.
The results will also be available on the Board’s website www.bisesuksindh.edu.pk.
However, heads of affiliated schools and higher secondary schools have been advised to collect the Result Gazette of their institutions through an authorized member of their teaching or ministerial staff.

Finance minister highlights initiatives to enhance economic growth, stability

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (APP):Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Wednesday again highlighted the initiatives aimed at enhancing economic stability and promoting long-term growth.
In a meeting with Ambassador of Finland to Pakistan, Hannu Ripatti, who called on him, the minister shared updates on Pakistan’s economic performance, highlighting rise in tax collection, increased remittances, and foreign exchange reserves exceeding USD 9 billion.
He emphasized the positive evaluation from international credit rating agencies, which reflect the stability of Pakistan’s economic environment, according to press release issued by Finance Ministry.
The Minister also discussed the successful conclusion of the 9-month Standby Agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the recently finalized staff-level agreement for a 37-month IMF programme.
Additionally, the Minister outlined ongoing initiatives, including end-to-end digitization in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to broaden the tax base, reforms in the energy sector, restructuring of state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and focus on export-led growth.
“These initiatives are aimed at enhancing economic stability and promote long-term growth,” he said.
On the occasion, the Finnish Ambassador expressed his appreciation for Pakistan’s economic reforms and noted the improved fiscal situation of Finnish companies operating in Pakistan.
The Minister thanked the Ambassador for Finland’s continued support in the renewal of Pakistan’s GSP Plus status, which benefits the country’s export sector.
The meeting underscored the strong bilateral relations between Pakistan and Finland, and the shared commitment to fostering economic stability and growth.

Certain localities to face power suspension due to maintenance work: Spokesman

PESHAWAR, Aug 07 (APP):The Peshawar Electric Supply Company(Pesco) will suspend power supply to certain localities due to necessary maintenance work on Thursday and Monday.
According to the company’s spokesman, the power supply will remain suspended from Khwaza Khela Grid Station on August 8 and 12 August from 7:00 AM to 11:00AM.
As a result consumers of New Khwaza Khela, Shin, Shangla, Charbagh Express, Baidara, Drushkhelafeeders will face inconvenience.
Similarly, the power supply will also remain suspended fromTimergara Saidu Grid Station on these days and consumers Timergara, Timergara New, Samar Bagh, Odigram, Balambat, Shamsi Khan, Tormang 2, Dush Khel Kali and Ghazi Babafeeders will face inconvenience.
