Governor appreciates overseas Pakistanis’ role in charity projects

RAWALPINDI, Aug 04 (APP):Governor Punjab Sardar Salim Haider Khan on Sunday underscored the role of overseas Pakistanis in the development of the country.
He said that the hearts of Pakistanis abroad are full of love for their countrymen. “Overseas philanthropists also contribute to charitable works by sending valuable foreign exchange which is appreciable”, he added.
The governor stated this while talking to a delegation comprising overseas Pakistanis who met him at Punjab House Islamabad under the leadership of Zumurd Khan (Hilal Imtiaz) Chairman of Pakistan Sweet Home.
According to DPR Rawalpindi, the chairman briefed the governor about a new project of Pakistan Sweet Homes named
Fatimat Al-Zahra Hospital (Chakri Rajar).
Governor Punjab highlighted that overseas Pakistanis have helped Pakistan in every difficult hour.
“With the support of philanthropists, the new project of Overseas Pakistanis Sweet Home is an exemplary contribution of social responsibility in the society”, he said adding that the charitable contributions by overseas Pakistanis should be encouraged.
Governor Punjab underlined the need to establish more such hospitals for poor and needy people in Attock and other remote areas.
The newly elected chairman of the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation, Syed Qamar Raza and overseas Pakistanis from Norway, Holland and Italy were also among the visiting delegation.
In a separate statement, the governor paid tribute to the police martyrs on the occasion of Police Martyrs Day and said that the martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for the sake of peace in the country are our pride.  He also expressed his solidarity with the families of the martyrs.

LAHORE, Aug 04 (APP):Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in her message on Police Martyrs Day, said that August 4 can never be forgotten as this day reminds us of martyrs sacrifices.
“A nation turns out successful which pays tribute to their martyrs. We will never compromise on the respect of the martyrs,” she said.
The Chief Minister said, ” I salute the great sacrifices of all our martyrs. The Martyrs Day is a day to pay homage to the great sacrifices of the brave sons of the land. The martyrs will always remain alive in our hearts.”
She added the immortal sacrifices of the police martyrs are a precious asset which can never be forgotten, adding that the Punjab government every second stands with the family members of the martyrs and will remain so. “The police force is rendering commendable duties in every area including the Kacha area. The Punjab government is utilising all possible resources for the welfare of the martyrs families. We will fully accomplish our duty to look after and provide service to the family of every martyr. We take pride in the glorious achievements of our martyrs and their sacrifices will be remembered for long,” she added.

PDMA issues weather alert

LAHORE, Aug 04 (APP):In response to recent rainfall across various districts in Punjab, including Lahore, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a weather alert.
Rainfall measurements include Bhakar 28 mm, Gujarat 83 mm, Mandi Bahauddin 40 mm, Narowal 43 mm, and Murree 31 mm. Additionally, Noorpur Thal received 26 mm, Sheikhupura 33 mm, Sialkot 50 mm, and Faisalabad 7 mm.
The PDMA forecasts continued monsoon rains over the next 24 hours, with the rainy period expected to last until August 6. PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia directed Deputy Commissioners throughout the province to stay vigilant. He emphasized the need for all relevant departments to be prepared for potential emergencies.
Urban areas, particularly major cities, are on high alert to mitigate risks of urban flooding. The PDMA control room is actively monitoring conditions around the clock. Rescue agencies, including 1122, are ready with staff and equipment.
The DG expressing safety tips for citizens advised that avoid power poles and hanging wires. Stay clear of flooded areas and unstable buildings. Keep children away from accumulated water. In case of emergencies, contact PDMA helpline at 1129.

Awaz App launched for reporting missing children, rights violations

Punjab University issues admission schedule

LAHORE, Aug 04 (APP):After the successful conduct of undergraduate Programs’ Entrance Test, Punjab University on Sunday has released the admission schedule, for Semester 1 and 5.
Admissions for undergraduate Programs 2024-2025 in Punjab University has been started.
According to the official sources, the admission schedule has been released for Lahore, Gujranwala, Jhelum and Potohar campuses. In this connection, the first merit list of the undergraduate regular program will be released on August 12 and the second one on August 16.
The third merit list will be published on Aug 21st, fourth list on 26th and fifth one on 29th August. Likewise, the first merit list of self supporting program will be published on 19th, second list on 23rd, while the third one will be published on Aug 28th.
The fourth list will be published on September 2 and the fifth on September 5.
The sources further said that the regular program classes will begin on September 2, while the self-supporting (self Finance) classes will begin on September 9.

PWPA reveals significant progress in Sania Zahra case

LAHORE, Aug 04 (APP):Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) on Sunday revealed that a significant progress in the investigation of the tragic death of Syeda Sania Zahra has been achieved.
in a statement, it said that after extensive efforts and support of the PWPA chairperson, police successfully obtained a four-day physical remand from the court for the accused, Ali Raza. He has been transported to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) in Lahore for comprehensive DNA, it said.
In addition to Ali Raza, all nominated co-accused, including servants and drivers present on the day of the incident, have also been taken to the PFSA for DNA testing.
To ensure the integrity and thoroughness of the investigation, the Superintendent of Police, Cantonment Multan, Rana Tahir, is personally overseeing the proceedings at the PFSA. He has engaged in detailed discussions with the Director General of the PFSA, who confirmed that the DNA testing of all 13 individuals would be prioritized, followed by polygraph testing of four of the accused.
On July 9, Syeda Sania Zahra was found hanged in her home. Initially believed to be a suicide but a murder case was subsequently lodged by her father, Syed Asad Abbas Shah, against her husband Ali Raza and his family members, including Ali’s parents, brother, sister-in-law, and sister.
The case, registered under sections 302 (murder), 148 (rioting armed with a deadly weapon), and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Pakistan Penal Code, took a significant turn when Ali Raza surrendered to the police after holding a press conference to deny the murder charges, claiming his wife had committed suicide due to family issues.
A post-mortem was conducted on July 14, revealing that the ligature mark on Sania’s neck was consistent with hanging, with no signs of external injuries or pregnancy at the time of death. Samples from her body were sent to the PFSA for further analysis.

Two factories sealed over spurious edible items

FAISALABAD, Aug 04 (APP):Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed two factories on the charge of preparing spurious food items in Faisalabad.
A PFA spokesman said here on Sunday that a team, on a tip-off, raided Gulshan-e-Rehman Town, Canal Road, and unearthed a factory where spurious Desi ghee was being prepared through chemicals.
The PFA team seized 750 kilogram packed spurious Desi ghee and 350 kg banaspati ghee in addition to sealing the factory premises and confiscating various items including freezer, drums, cylinder, stove, pump, ghee tins, etc.
Meanwhile, a PFA team also detected another factory in Kaleem Shaheed Colony where unhygienic toffees were being prepared through chemical and harmful materials.
The team sealed the premises of the factory after confiscating materials including chemicals, spurious products. Further action is under progress, the spokesman added.

Azadi hockey league starts

FAISALABAD, Aug 04 (APP):The Inter District Azadi Hockey League 2024 commenced under the aegis of District Education Authority (DEA) at the Hockey Ground here on Monday.
Director Secondary Education Dr Kishwar Naheed Rana inaugurated the tournament and two hockey matches between boys and girls teams of Faisalabad and Jhang were organized on the opening day.
Faisalabad won both matches despite teams of both districts performed excellently.

Police martyrs are pride for force, entire nation: AIGP Police

KARACHI, Aug 04 (APP):Additional Inspector General Police (AIGP) Javed Alam Odho on Sunday said that the police martyrs were not only pride for the force but also the entire nation.
He expressed these views as a chief guest at a ceremony organized by Captain (R) Azfar Mahesar, DIG Police East Zone, and Touheed Rehman, SSP Korangi on police Martyrs Day to honor the martyrs of the Police Service and their families.
Addressing the ceremony, the AIGP paid rich tributes to the martyrs, highlighting their pride not only for the police force but also for the entire nation. He emphasized that these brave individuals did not hesitated in rendering sacrifices in the line of their duties. Their sacrifices contribute to the relatively peaceful environment, he said.
During the event, the families of the martyrs received gifts and cheques in recognition of the martyrs’ outstanding services in maintaining peace and order in the society.
Other notables included Zubair Habib Chief CPLC, Murad Soni Chief Community Policing Karachi, Zubair Chaya Patron in Chief KATI, Tariq Mustafa Senior Bureaucrat, Dr Zahid Ansari Senior Bureaucrat, Commander Dr Farhan Essa and Adnan Zahoor Bilal Ahmed were present at the event.

Pakistani nation stands with Kashmiris: Ashrafi

LAHORE, Aug 04 (APP):Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Hafiz Allama Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi has announced that August 5 will be observed as “Kashmir Exploitation Day” in response to India’s illegal actions in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019.
In a statement, he said the entire Pakistani nation stands in solidarity with their Kashmiri brothers. He emphasized that the day will be marked with seminars, events, conferences, and walks across the country. He strongly condemned India’s actions on August 5, 2019, as a violation of international laws and United Nations resolutions, asserting that India has trampled on the rights of Kashmiris and seized their rights unlawfully.
Ashrafi highlighted that the Kashmir issue remains a crucial matter for the Muslim Ummah, where innocent Muslims continue to suffer. He described Kashmir as a prison without a voice and expressed disappointment that Muslims living in India have been unable to support their Kashmiri brothers and sisters. He reaffirmed that the entire Pakistani nation stands firmly with the Kashmiri people in their struggle for justice.
