Suspect in ex-wife’s murder case arrested in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Aug 07 (APP):Islamabad Police have arrested a suspect, identified as Farhad, in connection with the murder of his ex-wife in the Shahzad Town area.
The victim was shot dead allegedly by the accused, according to police spokesman.
Following the incident, DIG Islamabad Syed Ali Raza promptly took notice and ordered the immediate arrest of the suspect.
The police team successfully apprehended Farhad in a swift operation.
DIG Islamabad praised the police team for their efficient response and assured that the accused will be presented in court with solid evidence.
The case is currently under investigation, and further details are awaited.

Police arrest four accused, recover marijuana, liquor,gutka

HYDERABAD, Aug 07 (APP):Police in its continued drive against narcotics and criminals on Wednesday have foiled a bid to smuggle marijuana, liquor and gutka and arrest four accused.
SHO Phuleli Inspector Khalid Hussain Daahro under supervision of DSP Phuleli Muhammad Paryal Morio conducted raids in different areas and arrested four accused Bilal Qureshi, Naqash Qaimkhani, Sheeraz Makrani Baloch and Danish alias Dhobi.
Crackdown against suspects was carried out in Juriyal Shah graveyard, Goods Naka Sherazi Hotel, Kmbhar Muhalla, Islamabad railway crossing and Pakistan Chowk.
Police have registered case against suspects under narcotics, gutka and Main puri act and Huddod Ordinance,

Positive negotiations with JI, says Information Minister

RAWALPINDI, Aug 07 (APP): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar on Wednesday said that positive discussions were held with Jamat-e-Islami leadership during the negotiations in which some matters were settled in writing. He said that PM Shahbaz Sharif is already following the measures to reduce electricity prices.

Talking to the media after the 4th round of negotiations with the JI, the information minister said that Prime Minister’s agenda is to reduce electricity prices.

“Jamaat-e-Islami’s demand is our agenda to reduce electricity prices”, he said. The minister termed today’s talks with JI as ‘good progress’.

“The round of negotiations have been adjourned until tomorrow, he said adding “even today there has been a lot of progress in the negotiations”.

The minister informed that many issues have been agreed during the negotiations, and more issues are to be agreed upon. “A task force has been set up to look into the issues of IPPs”, he added.

The minister further said that JI workers arrested in Sialkot have been released. He repeated that a subsidy of Rs.50 billion has been given to electricity consumers using up to 200 units for three months of June, July and August.

To a question on holding a march as announced by the JI, Attaullah Tarar said that marching is a democratic right of JI.

Liaqat Baloch, JI’s vice chief while talking to the media said that JI presented its detailed position to the government.

“No disagreement was expressed with our demands” he said.

Liaqat Baloch said that the atmosphere was good during all the negotiations.

Governor grieves over demise of APP Reporter Saima Hayat

PESHAWAR, Aug 07 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) Peshawar Video News Service (VNS) Reporter Saima Hayat (44) who passed away here on Wednesday.
In a condolence message, the Governor prayed to Allah Almighty for departed soul of her in eternal peace and grant courage to bereaved family members to bear this irreparable lose with fortitude.
It is worth mentioning here that Saima Hayat was battling brain cancer and gyne patient for the last few years.
She was buried at her ancestral graveyard.

NA body expresses concern on disbursements process, surveys BISP

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (APP):The Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue on Wednesday expressed concern on the disbursements process, surveys and corruptions’ in the Benazir  Income Support Program (BISP).
The 5th meeting of the Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue was held, in the Parliament House under the Chairmanship of Syed Naveed Qamar, MNA/Chair.
The Committee was briefed on major programs and initiatives, Budget allocations, disbursements, poverty surveys and new payment methods in BISP.
The Chairperson BISP and Secretary Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety informed the Committee that during 2024-25, BISP’s annual Budget has increased by 27% as compared to last year. They added that the current Budget of BISP is 598.718 billion.
The Committee expressed concern on the disbursement process, surveys, illegal deduction by POS, and corruption in the program and desired direct access of beneficiaries on the payments.
The committee also expressed displeasure on the entire process of recertification and asked BISP officials to stop the traditional bureaucratic approach’ toward policy making matters.
The Committee directed the Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to help BISP in the process of secure disbursements and ensure biometrics of the beneficiary in the system.
The Governor SBP briefed the committee on inflation, money supply, monetary policy, current account, foreign exchange reserves and road-map to price stability and sustainable growth.
He replied to a number of questions and queries of the chair and the members of the committee.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Bilal Azhar Kayani, Rana Iradat Sharif Khan, Syed Sami Ul Hassan Gilani,  Waseem Qadir,  Kesoo Mal Kheal Das,  Ali Jan Mazari, Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Dr Nafisa Shah,Arshad Abdullah Vohra, Omar Ayub Khan,  Muhammad Mobeen Arif (ON ZOOM),Usama Ahmed Mela (ON ZOOM),  Muhammad Ali Sarfraz, and Ms. Shahida Begum.

Kashmiris gear up to celebrate Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day with fervor

MIRPUR, Aug 07 (APP):Preparations are in full swing across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Indian-occupied Kashmir to celebrate Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day on August 14 with great enthusiasm and devotion.
Elaborate programs have been chalked out to mark the occasion, including a national flag-hoisting ceremony at the AJK State metropolis, where President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry and Prime Minister Chaudhry Ch. Anwar ul Haq will unfurl the national flags of Pakistan and AJK.
Similar ceremonies will be held at district and tehsil headquarters, with national flags hoisted atop private and public buildings. Fireworks displays, colorful lights, and processions are also planned to mark the occasion.
The celebrations aim to renew the pledge to continue the struggle for freedom of occupied Jammu and Kashmir from Indian subjugation and achieve the dream of accession to Pakistan.
The Commissioner of Mirpur Division, Ch. Shoukat, told APP that the celebrations will begin with a fireworks display at Quaid-e-Azam International Sports Stadium Mirpur at midnight on August 13-14, followed by national flag-hoisting ceremonies across the region.

22 outlaws netted, narcotics, weapons seized with ammunition

ISLAMABAD, Aug 07 (APP):Islamabad Police apprehended 22 outlaws from different areas of the city during the last 24 hours and recovered narcotics and weapons with ammunition from their possession.
A public relations officer said that, following the directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, the Islamabad Police has intensified crackdown against the criminal elements in order to eliminate the crime from the city.
The Aabpara police team arrested an accused namely Waqas and recovered one 30 bore pistol from his possession. The Karachi Company police team arrested an accused namely Kashif Masih and recovered 25 bottles of wine from his possession.
Likewise, the Tarnol police team arrested two accused namely Asman Ullah and Shahzad and recovered one 30 bore pistol and 600 gram heroin from their possession. The industrial Area police team arrested an accused namely Muhammad Shahzad and recovered 600 gram heroin from his possession.
Similarly, the Kirpa police team arrested an accused namely Khalid and recovered one 30 bore pistol from his possession. The Humak police team arrested five accused namely Dilawar, Ameer Nawab, Noman, Muhammad Hamid and Noman and recovered four pistols and one 222 bore rifle from their possession.
Moreover, the Lohi Bher police team arrested an accused namely Imran Aslam and recovered 20 liters of liquor from his possession. The Phulgran police team arrested an accused namely Muhammad Basharat and recovered one dagger from his possession.
Furthermore, the Bani Gala police team arrested an accused namely Arslan and recovered 20 liters of liquor from his possession. Cases have been registered against the nabbed accused and further investigation is underway.
During the crackdown against proclaimed offenders and absconders, the Islamabad Police teams arrested 08 absconders and target offenders from various areas of the city.
DIG Islamabad Syed Ali Raza directed the police officials to further intensify the crackdown against the criminal elements. “Safety and security of the citizens is our foremost priority and no laxity will be tolerated in this regard”.
The citizens are urged to cooperate with police and report any suspicious activity or information through the emergency helpline “Pucar-15” or via the “ICT-15” app for immediate assistance.

Gangs involved in street crimes busted, looted booty recovered

WAH CANTT, Aug 07 (APP):The Wah Saddar Police on Wednesday busted a gang involved in street crimes and arrested their three members, besides recovering looted booty from their possession.
According to a police spokesman, acting on a tip, a police party raided the den of the gang known as the “Yasir gang” and arrested their three members, identified as Rashedi, Irshad, and ring leader Yasir. The police spokesman has said that during preliminary interrogation, the gang confessed their involvement in 14 different street crime incidents in the area.
Police recovered looted booty, including cash, a cell phone, and a motorcycle, from their possession, and further interrogation was initiated.

Commissioner Gujranwala orders round-the-clock drainage efforts amid Monsoon woes

GUJRANWALA, Aug 07 (APP):Commissioner Gujranwala Naveed Haider Shirazi has directed authorities to keep machinery and staff on duty until the drainage process is complete.
During a visit to the Kawasa disposal station and affected areas on Wednesday, Shirazi ordered WASA officials to stay in the field and expedite drainage from low-lying areas. He also instructed assistant commissioners to be present in their respective tehsils and ensured that officers and teams from WASA and municipal committees are on the ground at all times.
The commissioner inspected key areas, including GT Road and Shamsi Underpass, and called for additional machinery to be deployed in high-traffic zones to prevent congestion. Traffic police personnel have been asked to remain on duty to ensure smooth traffic flow.
With urban flooding, storm drains, and the Chenab River posing a threat, all concerned departments have been put on high alert to protect human lives. Citizens have been advised to take precautionary measures during the monsoon season.

Gulmina Bilal along with NAVTTC regional director visit UOBS

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (APP):Chairperson National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) Gulmina Bilal Ahmad along with the NAVTTC Regional Director’s Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) visited the University of Baltistan, Skardu (UOBS).
The senior faculty and administrative staff of the university warmly welcomed Gulmina Bilal, said a press release issued here on Wednesday.
During the address, the chairperson announced the awarding of four trades under the, “She Fixes”project to UOBS, expressing her hope for quality training for the women of the region in these non-traditional trades.
She assured the university management of NAVTTC’s support in facilitating youth training in Hospitality Management, IT, and Stone Cutting & Polishing.
She urged the university administration to establish a Centre of Excellence in Hospitality Management. Gulmina also requested the Vice Chancellor of UOBS, Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan to collaborate with NAVTTC in organizing the upcoming job fair in Skardu.
She extended thanks for the warm welcome and the informative presentations from the senior Professors and Directors. At the conclusion of the visit, the chairperson planted a tree on the UOBS premises.
