CM Maryam congratulates Arshad Nadeem, announces Rs 100m as reward

LAHORE, Aug 09 (APP):Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced a reward of Rs 100 million for the Olympic javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem while congratulating him on winning a gold medal for Pakistan in the Paris Olympics, that has won hearts of millions of Pakistanis.
She also announced the construction of a sports city in his hometown of Mian Channu, named after Olympian Arshad Nadeem.
The CM paid tribute to Arshad Nadeem and his coaching staff for breaking the 118-year-old record in javelin throw and winning gold medal for Pakistan after 40 years.
“If you believe in yourself, success is guaranteed. Victory is a beautiful thing, to win you have to lose yourself”, she added.
Maryam Nawaz  said that Arshad’s  journey from a small village of Mian Channu to the Paris Olympics is very much inspiring and praise worthy. She added that making a new Olympic record is a proof of his sincere commitment to the cause for which he made history.
The CM termed the medal as a gift to the nation on Independence Day.

Emergency Response Committee reviews situation of dengue

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 09 (APP):A meeting of the District Emergency Response Committee for Dengue Control was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Anwar Jappa in the committee room of his office.
The meeting reviewed the measures taken for dengue control from July 29 to August 7. Additional Deputy Commissioner General Muhammad Ahmar Ali, DHO Dr. Zeeshan Rauf, District Focal Person Dr. Qudsia Anwar, officials from Bahawal Victoria Hospital and Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi Hospital, Deputy District Health Officers, entomologists, and officials and focal persons from relevant departments were present at the meeting.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed that preventive measures against dengue be effectively implemented, emphasizing the need for cleanliness and roof cleaning.
 He directed improvements in Android user activities and insisted on proactive work in the field. “Legal action should be taken against those who fail to carry out Android user activities correctly”, he instructed.
Regular surveillance for dengue larvae is necessary, and members of the indoor and outdoor teams established for dengue control should work effectively in the field. He stated that 100 percent coverage of hot spots related to dengue larvae breeding should be ensured throughout the district.
The Emergency Response Committee at the tehsil level should operate actively, with regular meetings held at the tehsil level and members engaged in field activities.
During the briefing, District Focal Person Dr. Qudsia Anwar reported that from January 1 to August 7, as many as 5205 suspected dengue cases had been reported in the district, including 7 patients who had traveled from other cities.
She further mentioned that dengue larvae were found during surveillance at 37 locations. Effective measures are being taken to eliminate dengue larvae.
She noted that there are 1806 dengue-related hot spots in the district, with efforts made to ensure their coverage. Additionally, 520 indoor and outdoor teams are actively engaged in dengue control activities throughout the district.

PMDC directs medical colleges to set up public health centres

MULTAN, Aug 09 (APP): As per vision of the Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has announced a groundbreaking initiative to align Pakistan’s medical and public health education with the country’s primary healthcare needs.

The PMDC has recently directed all medical & dental colleges to establish public health centres. The initiative aims to enhance the quality of public health services and provide accessible healthcare to under-served communities.

In alignment with the national health policy and the commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure, the PMDC has emphasized that these public health centers will serve as vital hubs for community health services, preventive care, and public health research.

The centers will not only support the local populations but also offer medical students hands-on experience in public health practice, thereby enriching their education and professional development.

The PMDC envisions these centers as key contributors to public health education, disease prevention, and community engagement.

Each center will be equipped with necessary medical facilities and staffed by qualified healthcare professionals, ensuring comprehensive healthcare services are available to the public.

Medical colleges are expected to comply with this directive within the stipulated time frame.

The PMDC will closely monitor the progress and operational status of these centers to ensure they meet the required standards of service and care. The PMDC has incorporated public health initiatives into the training of future healthcare providers to promote a healthier nation.

A meeting of President PMDC Prof.Dr Rizwan Taj with Dr. Luo Dapeng, a Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Pakistan National Institute of Health premises was also held to align medical /public health education and training in Pakistan with the PHC needs in the country.

Prof.Dr.Rizwan Taj President PM&DC said that to achieve these objectives, the PM&DC Council decided that all medical and dental colleges are required to establish outreach centers at their affiliated teaching hospitals or collaborate with existing Basic Health Units (BHU) and Rural Health Centers (RHC) within their respective regions to enhance practical training community health improvement, research and data collection and public awareness and education, says a news release issued here on Friday.
