Imam Masjid-i-Nabvi (PBUH) calls on Army Chief

RAWALPINDI, Aug 09 (APP): Imam Masjid-i-Nabvi (PBUH), Dr. Salah bin Mohammad Al-Budair called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir here at General Headquarters on Friday.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest were discussed, an Inter Services Public Relations news release said.

The COAS welcomed the dignitary and highlighted that visit by Imam Masjid-i-Nabvi to Pakistan was a matter of honour for the people of Pakistan.

Imam Masjid-i-Nabvi said Pakistan has a significant place in the Muslim world and it is playing its vital role for peace and stability in the region. Both sides expressed satisfaction over Pak-Saudi relations.

At the end, Imam Masjid-i-Nabvi prayed for the peace, stability and unity of Muslim Ummah.

Sindh Govt to distribute 50 thousand solar panels in August: Nasir Shah

KARACHI, Aug 09 (APP):Provincial Minister for Energy Development and Planning Sindh Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Friday said that all possible steps are being taken to distribute 50 thousand solar home panels to the people in the month of August and hoped that this work will be completed soon.
Nasir Hussain Shah said that in the manifesto of the People’s Party, people were promised to provide them free electricity up to 300 units.
The project of providing free electricity up to 300 units has been completed to a large extent and according to the election manifesto and promise of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, this project will be completed as soon as possible.
The Energy Minister said the electricity bills are very high.  As per the direction and vision of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, Sindh government wants to give relief to the people. The project of providing free and cheap electricity to the people is a link in this chain,he said and added that there is no shortage of alternative energy sources in Sindh province.
He said President Asif Ali Zardari also wants to promote the use of solar and provide free and affordable electricity to the people by using alternative energy sources.
Shah said the process of rationalization is going on rapidly and the works on various projects are being completed rapidly.
Energy Minister further said that solar parks are going to be built in different districts of the province and the electricity generated from them will be provided by NTDC.
He said Sindh is the first province in the country where Sepra has been established on the pattern of Nepra and STDC has also been formed which will provide cheap electricity tariffs and it will provide cheap electricity to both industries.

Earth planet surrounds by solar storm: SUPARCO

ISLAMABAD, Aug 09 (APP):The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Commission (SUPARCO) has revealed that the earth planet is surrounded by a solar storm.
Geomagnetic storms are on Earth’s path due to material and energy emitted from the Sun while satellites, power grids and space stations are at risk.
The Institute of Space Technology Islamabad has released special images of the surface of the Sun.
According to the Spokesperson of SUPARCO, three Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) are currently on their way to Earth.
The first two M-class solar flares were launched on August 07.
Initial CMEs were relatively minor, but the third X1.3-class solar flare is much more powerful than these
More M-class flares have been released from the surface of the Sun.
The effects of plasma and magnetic waves from the Sun’s surface are expected to reach Earth over the next three to four days.
As the sun reaches the peak of its activity, earth also faces risks related to storms.
Solar storms cause radio blackouts, disabled satellites, and cellular phone and GPS networks.

Nation’s well-being must come first: Rana Sana

ISLAMABAD, Aug 9 (APP):The Prime Minister’s adviser on political and public affairs Rana Sanaullah on Friday said that the country’s survival must take precedence over individual interests.
“If the country suffers, there will be no refuge for anyone,” he warned. Talking to a private news channel, he called on all political figures to set aside personal agendas and focus on the nation’s well-being.
He cautioned that political infighting and enmity only serve to weaken the country, making it vulnerable to external exploitation.
“Politics should be about respecting and accepting different opinions,” he said. He also criticized the continued divisive actions of PTI since its departure from Parliament, noting that such behavior exacerbates the nation’s challenges.
“One party is doing everything it can to destabilize the nation,” he remarked.

IHC seeks reply from ICT admin on PTI rally venue change

ISLAMABAD, Aug 09 (APP):The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday issued notices to the Chief Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, asking them to respond by next week to a request from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to change the location of their political gathering.
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir of the Islamabad High Court heard the case.
During the hearing, the State Council told the court that the district administration had given permission to PTI to hold a rally in Tarnol on August 22.
Advocate Shoaib Shaheen, representing PTI, informed the court that they had requested for political gathering at F-9 Park or Kashmir Highway on the August 13, urging the court to consider the change.
After hearing the arguments, the court issued notices to the relevant parties and adjourned the hearing till next week.

CTD arrests FIA officer for allegedly masterminding murder

KARACHI, Aug 09 (APP):The Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) announced on Friday the arrest of a Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officer accused of orchestrating the murder of a religious leader.
According to DSP CTD Chaudhry Safdar, the arrest was made during an operation by the CTD’s Investigation Wing in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area, following a tip-off. The suspect, FIA Inspector Atiq Alam, is alleged to have masterminded the targeted killing of Sufi Abdul Qayyum.
Sufi Abdul Qayyum, a prayer leader, was murdered by two hired killers, Ali Akbar and Tanveer, after Fajr prayer on February 21st, reportedly over a property dispute. The contract for the killing was allegedly given by Atiq Alam for 500,000 rupees.
Alam, who had been on the run for one and a half years following the arrest of the hired killers, was finally apprehended by the CTD. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.

Rain-windstorm/thundershower likely at various parts of country: PMD

ISLAMABAD, Aug 09 (APP): Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain-windstorm/thundershower with isolated heavy falls for Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Northeast Punjab, Potohar region and Islamabad during the next 24 hours.

Rain-windstorm/thundershower is likely at isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan, South/Central Punjab, Northeast/South Baluchistan and Southeast/Upper Sindh. According to the synoptic situation, monsoon currents from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are penetrating upper parts of the country at lower tropospheric levels and likely to penetrate in central parts from Saturday.

A westerly wave was affecting upper parts of the country. The PMD has warned that heavy rains may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/ Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhelum, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Hafizabad, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Karak and Kashmir till August 11.

Heavy downpour may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Mardan, Nowshera and Peshawar.

Landslides may cause road closure at the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and
Gilgit-Baltistan during the forecast period. During the last 24 hours, rain-wind/thundershower occurred at isolated places in North Balochistan, Punjab, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Southeast Sindh. Hot and humid weather prevailed over other parts of the country.

The rainfall recorded was Balochistan: Barkhan 35mm, Khuzdar 18, Kalat 11, Panjgur 02, Quetta (Sheikh Manda) 01, Punjab: Sahiwal 35, Faisalabad 21, Toba Tek Singh 20, Narowal 19, Multan (City 09, A/P 08), Bahawalnagar 04, Okara 03, Sheikhupura 02, Mangala 01, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Kakul 11, Malam Jabba 08, and Sindh: Mithi 07mm. The highest maximum temperatures recorded were Nokkundi 46C, Chilas and Dalbandin 44C.

Governor directs NADRA to improve its procedures

QUETTA, Aug 09 (APP):Governor Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandukhail directed that all NADRA authorities should make improvements in their existing procedures by taking advantage of modern scientific inventions and new information technology.
He expressed these views while during a briefing regarding the performance and future plan of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) at Governor House Quetta.
Director General NADRA Kashif Iqbal and Principal Secretary to Governor Balochistan Hashim Khan Ghalzai were also present in the briefing.
The Governor said that double shifts should be started in NADRA offices in major cities and mobile vans to be run for remote districts of the province and its number should be increased.
He said that to achieve this, people were making friendly policies and making conscious efforts.
Governor Balochistan said that introduction of online application system by NADRA was actually a new initiative, the aim of which was to increase the convenience and accessibility of all necessary documents for the general public.
This will reduce the need for people from remote areas to go to NADRA offices, he said.
Governor Mandukhail was taking benefit from new information technology in our existing procedures, saying that we could significantly reduce the rush in our NADRA Offices.
He urged all the deputy commissioners, local government representatives, media persons and civil society to create awareness among the people of their respective areas to prepare the birth certificates and other necessary documents of all children at the level of every union council in order to pave the way for proper registration and issuance of relevant cards and certificates at the official level.
He said that the new public-friendly measures taken by NADRA have been designed to facilitate access to all important documents of the public.
The Governor said that it was the duty of every intelligent person of the society to fully cooperate in this matter and find modern solutions to the problems being faced.

SHC puts on notice Home Secretary, IGP in allegedly fake encounter case

HYDERABAD, Aug 09 (APP):In a petition filed by a man who blamed Hyderabad police for allegedly shooting and injuring him in a fake encounter, Sindh High Court has put Home Secretary, IGP Sindh, DIG and SSP Hyderabad and other officers on notice.
According to details, the petitioner Asif Ali’s counsel advocate Javed Buriro claimed that Ali was returning with his family from Bhit Shah, Matiari district to Karachi when they were stopped by Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Hyderabad.
He alleged Ali was kept at the CIA center for 8 days before he was handed over to Cantt police which shot and injured him in a staged encounter.
The lawyer argued that the police committed offence was a violation of Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention and Punishment) Act, 2022, and pleaded with the court to punish the concerned cops under the law.

PDMA continues relief activities at flooded areas

APP33-170424 PESHAWAR: April 17 – Vehicles passing through flood water at Bara Hazar Khuwani bridge after heavy rain in Provincial Capital.

DG KHAN, Aug 09 (APP): Rescue and relief activities are going on in full swing by PDMA Punjab at flooded areas of Mianwali, Layyah Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur.

According to PDMA spokesperson, 34 areas of Mianwali, Layyah Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur have been flooded where 24 boats and 78 rescue workers are engaged in rescue activities. A total of 36 relief camps are set up in the flooded areas.

He said uptill now, 930 people were shifted to safe places. Around 1572 people were provided treatment in 33 medical campuses in the different affected areas. About 757 number of cattle were moved to safe places while 42714 animals were vaccinated.

There was no loss of life or property due to timely response of PDMA and administration. Flood situation is feared to continue in the Indus River for the next few days, he added.
