PM Shehbaz Sharif pledges support for youth to transform Pakistan into a developed nation

ISLAMABAD, Aug 12 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday pledged to allocate ample resources to the nation’s youth to help transform the country into a thriving, developed nation.

Speaking at an event marking the International Day of Youth, organized by the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, he recalled his service as Chief Minister of Punjab under the leadership of President Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. He aimed to provide opportunities for the youth to change the country’s destiny as prime minister.

“The country’s youth have the potential to elevate the nation to new heights, if given access to modern education and resources,” he added.

He expressed his vision of equipping talented youth with modern education, Information Technology, and Artificial Intelligence to spark a revolution in the country, similar to the progress seen in China. He highlighted his previous efforts in providing modern facilities to students at Danish Schools.

Shehbaz Sharif also lamented that, despite having abundant resources and 77 years of independence, the country remains heavily burdened by debt. He noted that extreme poverty prevents many from affording basic needs, such as arranging marriages for their daughters, while the country’s elite class enjoys significant privileges.

He stated that this year, the federal government will provide one million smartphones, tablets, and laptops to top-performing students across the country, including those from Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and remote areas of Balochistan. Additionally, each province has its separate programs to support students, he added.

Additionally, the prime minister announced that he will personally fund the education of 1,000 agricultural graduates in China, aiming to equip them with modern technology to boost agri production. Huawei has also committed to sending 200,000 youth for IT training and advanced education, he said adding that he will unveil a comprehensive development plan for the country on August 14.

The prime minister stated that nothing was impossible in this world and emphasized the need to progress by learning from past mistakes. He assured that the country’s hockey will be revived. Praising javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem, he noted that Nadeem had won a gold medal for the country after a drought of over 40 years.

At the beginning of the event, the prime minister officially launched several key initiatives, including the Commonwealth Youth Alliance Secretariat in Islamabad, the Digital Learning Portal, the PM Green Youth Movement, and the AI for Youth Programme, which offers Intel-certified skills to young people. Other initiatives included Smart Youth, Smart Pakistan, and the distribution of one million tablets and mobile phones to high-achieving intermediate students. He also announced the registration of the National Volunteer Corps.

Later, the Prime Minister presented awards to successful young entrepreneurs.

IBCC launches National Assessment Workshop for grades IX-XII

ISLAMABAD, Aug 12 (APP):The Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) has launched a two-day consultation workshop on the National Assessment Framework 2024 for grades IX to XII, taking place in Islamabad from August 12 to August 13.
According to the IBCC, the workshop aims to analyze the draft framework, focusing on establishing a cohesive national strategy for assessment and examination systems across the country.
Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah, Executive Director of IBCC, highlighted the importance of reviewing past efforts and refining the framework for greater effectiveness.
Contributions from the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE), BISE Peshawar, and BISE Abbottabad were acknowledged.
Key participants include Mr. Abrar Jaffar, Additional Secretary of the Boards and Universities Department Sindh; Muhammad Rizwan Soomro, Project Director of the Sindh Education Improvement Project (SEIP); Dr. Muhammad Luqman, Deputy Project Director of SEIP; Atta Hussain Lakho, Exam Reform Specialist; Fakrharunisa Qamar, Gender Specialist of SSEIP; Muhammad Athar, Additional Director of DCTE Abbottabad; Aftab Khushk, Education Consultant; Narsurallah Khan, Chairman of BISE Peshawar; Muhammad Shafiq Awan, Chairman of BISE Abbottabad; Amir Riaz, Director of Curriculum PCTB, Lahore; Dr. Muhammad Idrees, Director of PIE; Dr. Muhammad Zaigham, Director of PIE; Dr. Shafqat Ali Janjua, Director of NCC; Mirza Ali, Director of FBISE; and Dr. Muhammad Farooq Hasan from BISE SBA.
Participants shared best practices and provided feedback to enhance the framework, aiming to implement a unified strategy that meets national educational standards. The IBCC appreciates the active participation of all attendees.

NA speaker, Belarusian envoy discuss bilateral ties, parliamentary cooperation

ISLAMABAD, Aug 12 (APP):National Assembly (NA) Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Monday said Pakistan and Belarus enjoy cordial  relationship based on a shared commitment to global peace and sustainable development.
It is crucial to enhance political, cultural, economic, and people-to-people connections between the two countries for the mutual benefit of the people on both sides, he remarked, during a meeting with the Belarusian Envoy to Pakistan, Andrei Metelitsa, who called on him here at the Parliament.
The two sides discussed a wide range of regional and global developments. They underscored the significance of continuous collaboration to maintain a positive trajectory in bilateral relations and explore new areas of engagement.
Discussing parliamentary cooperation, the speaker emphasized regular interaction between parliaments, mainly through parliamentary friendship groups and the exchange of parliamentary delegations, in order to share and learn from each other’s experiences.
The ambassador expressed gratitude to the speaker for his kind remarks and reiterated that Belarus views Pakistan as an important regional stakeholder. He expressed his desire to further strengthen linkages in all areas of mutual interest, in addition to fostering parliamentary and cultural exchanges.

Pakistan committed to protection of minorities’ rights, ensure equal opportunities: President

ISLAMABAD, Aug 12 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday reiterated that Pakistan was committed to protection of the rights of minorities and provision of equal opportunities to them to excel in every walk of life as enshrined in the Constitution of Pakistan.
Addressing a ceremony to mark the celebrations of Minorities’ Day at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the president said, “Under the Constitution and under the onus of oath of my office, I have the duty to protect all rights of the minorities and provide all kind of facilitation”.
He said that the objective behind the observance of Minorities’ Day at the official level was to acknowledge the valuable contributions made by the members of different communities living in Pakistan.

Pakistan committed to protection of minorities’ rights, ensure equal opportunities: President

The president further stressed upon enhancement of jobs opportunities for the minorities in different government’s departments on merit basis besides, increasing the existing jobs quota.

Lauding the role of the minorities in the national progress and prosperity, he said that they were the equal citizens of Pakistan and future builders of the nation.
Stressing upon the significance of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s vision, the president said they were required to fully emulate his message aimed at fostering unity, brotherhood and religious tolerance in society.

The event arranged by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony was attended by members of parliament, ulema, religious leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, media and representatives from different minorities.

Comparing the current situation in India, the president said “Modi’s India is not a safe haven for the minorities,” and lauded Quaid’s farsightedness and leadership who had realized the future fate of minorities in India.
President Zardari said the people of Pakistan always felt the pains of sufferings of humanity and for those lying lowly in society and accorded due respect and space to all the minorities living here because such a message of human consideration had been embedded in their religion and culture.
He also recited a verse of famous Sindhi poet, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, in this regard to emphasize his point of view.

While recollecting the events of Pakistan Movement, he said that his father in his youth took active part for the creation of Pakistan.

President Zardari referring to the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, said that atrocious and indiscriminate strikes were targeting all Palestinians and people from different faiths.

Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Chaudhry Salik Hussain felicitated the minorities on the observance of national day and said that all communities living in the country enjoyed religious freedom and were bonded with affection, tolerance, peace and brotherhood.
He underlined that they were ought to spread this message across the globe.
Citing different constitutional articles, he said minorities’ rights had been guaranteed under the constitutional provisions, besides the Islamic teachings had also laid emphasis upon such rights.

Archbishop Rawalpindi and Islamabad Dr Joseph Arshad, Haroon Sarb Diyal representative of Hindu community, Sardar Gurpal Singh representative of Sikh community, Dr Seema Farzad representative of Bahai community and Isphandyar M. Bhandra, a member of National Assembly and representative of Parsi community, also expressed their views on the occasion.
The appreciated the government’s steps for the protection of their rights, welfare and well beings, besides according them equal opportunities in different walks of life.
They said nation’s founder Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, in his historic speech of August 11, 1947 had stressed upon the religious freedom and rights of all communities.
The speakers also lauded the president for the observance of Minorities’ Day at the national level and the recent signing of Christian Marriage Act (Amended) 1872.

Field General Court Martial initiated against Lt Gen (R) Faiz Hameed for Army Act violations

RAWALPINDI, Aug 12 (APP): Pakistan Army on Monday initiated Field General Court Martial process of former Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed after a detailed court of inquiry was undertaken by Pakistan Army, complying with the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, to ascertain correctness of complaints in Top City Case made against the accused, a three-star Army officer.

“Consequently, appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd), under provisions of Pakistan Army Act,” the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release said.

In addition, multiple instances of violation of Pakistan Army Act post retirement have also been established. The process of Field General Court Martial has been initiated and Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) has been taken into military custody, the ISPR said.

Balochistan CM congratulates youth for securing second position

QUETTA, Aug 12 (APP): Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Monday congratulated the youth for securing the second position at the national level and appreciating the skills of the youth.
He said this while talking to Qabalai Khan, a young resident of Alamdar Road Quetta who won the second position in national cubing competitions called on him here.
Appreciating the hard work, The Chief Minister said that the youth of Balochistan have made the name of Balochistan famous at the international and national level due to their talents.

Living nations celebrate Independence Day with enthusiasm: CM Bugti

QUETTA, Aug 12 (APP): Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Monday said that living nations celebrate Independence Day with enthusiasm and a national spirit.

He expressed these views while addressing at the closing ceremony of the All Balochistan Independence Celebration Shooting Championship here.

The Chief Minister stated that shooting sports have been a traditional activity for the Baloch, Pashtun, and local tribes. He said that there is a need to revive this sport.

He mentioned that Independence Day celebrations were underway throughout Balochistan, and also cautioned that some enemy forces are aiming to weaken Pakistan.

A certain group is trying to destabilize the state through propaganda and violence which will be foiled by the contribution of security forces and the nation for the development of the country, he said adding that anti-national forces wanted to create a gulf between the state and the people.

He said that social media was a good thing, but it was being used negatively. He said that the world adopted social media by developing moral values on strong lines.

He said that in the context of Balochistan, the weapon of social media was used badly whereas, positive use of social media was needed to prevent conspiracies. The provincial government will fail all such conspiracies and elements that were trying to weaken the state, he maintained.

He said, “we would eradicate all such elements who were creating distance between the state and the youth by sitting on mountains or utilizing social media”. People of Balochistan are patriotic, all conspiracies against the state will be failed so that the country would put on track of development processes, he remarked.

He said that being a part of the Baloch democratic process, he reached the position of president saying that he did not think that Baloch needed any more freedom than this.

Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said that while sticking to the decision made by elders to join Pakistan, they would not hesitate to give their blood.
