DPO-Tank DPO Tank visits check posts to review security measures

TANK, Aug 15 (APP):District Police Officer (DPO) Tank Aslam Nawaz Khan visited various check posts and reviewed the overall security situation keeping in view the prevailing threats.

The district police chief visited Shaheed Sami Ullah check post and different routes of Tank city along with the SP Investigation Nasir Khan and SHO Police Station SMA Sher Afzal, where he inspected the security arrangements made to ensure law and order keeping in view the recent threats and incidents, said a police spokesman.

The DPO issued directions for further improvement in security arrangements at the check posts and asked the officers concerned and on-duty personnel to take precautionary measures for their own safety along with ensuring the safety of the lives and property of the citizens.

He asked them to keep a close watch on suspicious persons and use all available resources to maintain the law and order situation.

However, he said all safety and precautionary measures for their own safety should also be ensured.

The DPO said that they should keep a close eye on suspected people but they behave politely to improve the atmosphere of trust.

He said that all possible measures should be taken for resolving legitimate problems of the citizens.

 

PPP to protect rights of minorities: PPP leader

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 15 (APP): President, Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Bahawalpur Metropolitan Corporation, Malik Imtiaz Channar has said that PPP would continue playing role to protect rights of minorities.
He was addressing a ceremony that was organized by PPP Minorities Wing here. He said that PPP always raised voice for protection of rights of downtrodden segments of the society.
“It is PPP that always played role to protect rights of downtrodden segments of society and minorities,” he said.
He said: “It is need of hour to promote culture of tolerance and harmoney”.
He said that minorities had been playing remarkable role in mainstream life activities in the country.
He said that minorities had also been playing role in strengthening national economy.

ANF seizes 71 kg drugs in six operations

RAWALPINDI, Aug 15 (APP): An Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) while conducting six operations managed to recover 71 kg drugs and arrested six accused, said an ANF Headquarters spokesman here on Thursday.
He informed that 235 grams ice was recovered from a parcel sent to New Zealand from a courier office in Lahore.
30 kg hashish, 12 kg opium and two 30 bore pistols with 4 magazines and 200 rounds were recovered near Chungi no 26 Islamabad while two accused were arrested during the operation.
24 kg hashish and 500 grams ice were recovered from a vehicle intercepted in Pishin and an accused was arrested.
3.3 kg hashish was recovered from a motorcyclist on MM Road Mianwali.
In two operations near M-1 Islamabad, 800 grams hashish, 250 grams heroin and 100 grams ice were recovered from the possession of two suspects.
Investigations have been started by registering cases under the Anti-Narcotics Act against the arrested accused.

WASA signs MoU with KOICA to cope with urban flooding

MULTAN, Aug 15 (APP): WASA signed a MoU with Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) for mega projects to cope with urban flooding, MD WASA Khalid Raza told APP.
Following the agreement, Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) would receive aid worth $10 billion to initiate the projects here in different parts of the district to resolve underlying matter of urban flooding.
MoU of Record of Discussion was signed in Lahore amid presence of Special Secretary Housing Punjab, DG MDA and Country Director of KOICA.
Under the agreement, a master plan would be chalked out to save the district and adjacent places from urban flooding, said the DG.
Underground water tanks would be built at low lying areas of the city to protect urban areas from flash flood on the heels of heavy rains, it was said.
The project would play a key role in capacity building of WASA, he said.
It was a grand development scheme ready to be carried out with the help of a friend country for uplifting standard of the region; he said.
Not only it would meet the issue of urban flooding, help out resolving day-to-day affair emerging in the district, he concluded.

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 15 (APP): Under the auspices of National Highways and Motorway Police, a road safety walk was held here to raise awareness among drivers.
According to a press release issued here, following the vision of Inspector General, National Highways and Motorway Police and on the directions of Sector Commandar, NHMP, National Highways and Motorway Police organized a road safety walk here in Bahawalpur to raise awareness among drivers.
Addressing the participants of the road safety walk, Deputy Superintendent Police, NHMP, Syed Rizwan Shah said that drivers must adopt safety measures when they ply their vehicles on roads. “It is need of hour to adopt safety measures while driving a vehicle on national highways and motorways,” he said.

Healthy eating habits, lifestyle, balanced diet help cure stomach-related problems in monsoon season

ISLAMABAD, Aug 15 (APP): While the monsoon season provides relief from the scorching heat, it also increases the risk of infectious diseases where expert warned public for water contamination risks and urge awareness for taking precautionary measures with food storage, consumption and avoid roadside eats to stay safe.
 Renowned Gastroenterologist Dr. Irfan Ali Richan, speaking to PTV News emphasized the crucial importance of recognizing the symptoms of monsoon-related diseases, which often include high fever, body aches, and fatigue.
  Dr. Richan cautioned that if left untreated, these diseases can progress to severe cases, requiring hospitalization and intensive care.
 Dr. Richan’ s warning comes as the monsoon season intensifies, bringing with it an increased risk of waterborne and food-borne diseases.
 By being aware of the symptoms and taking prompt action, citizens can protect themselves and their loved ones from these potentially life-threatening illnesses, he added.
 Dr. Richan advised citizens to be vigilant about food and water hygiene, stressing the importance of drinking clean water, avoiding raw or undercooked food, and washing hands regularly.
  He also emphasized the need for timely medical attention if symptoms persist or worsen.
  In severe cases, hospitalization and intensive care may be required to manage complications such as dehydration, organ failure or septicemia.
  Dr. Richan urged citizens not to delay seeking medical help if they experience severe symptoms, as prompt treatment can significantly improve outcomes.
   By taking preventive measures and being mindful of the risks, citizens can stay safe and healthy during the monsoon season.
    Dr. Richan’s expert advice serves as a timely reminder to prioritize health and take proactive steps against monsoon-related diseases.
     Responding a query, he said it is imperative to take necessary precautions like drinking clean water, preferably boiled and cold water, eating freshly cooked hot food, avoiding eating outside, and washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly before using.
     Citizens should keep surroundings clean and avoid water stagnation to keep mosquitoes away and follow hand hygiene practices,” the expert added further, he added.

Pakistan’s flag hoisted at the Pakistani embassy in Washington to mark Independence Day

WASHINGTON, Aug 15 (APP): Pakistan’s green crescent-and-star was unfurled at a simple ceremony held at the Pakistani embassy in Washington on Wednesday to celebrate the Independence Day of Pakistan.

Charge d’Affaires Dr. Fareha Bugti hoisted the Pakistani flag at the Embassy’s courtyard as the national anthem was struck up.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of members from the Pakistani community.

Special messages of President Asif Ali Zardari and the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif were read out on the occasion.

In their messages, both leaders paid homage to the immense sacrifices made by the nation’s forefathers and the heroes of the Pakistan Movement, who fought tirelessly for an independent country.

Dr. Fareha Bugti along with the officers of the Embassy and other guests cut the cake to mark the Independence Day.
