Repatriation of undocumented Afghans continues

PESHAWAR, Jan 24 (APP):The process of repatriation of Afghan nationals residing illegally in Pakistan remained in progress, with a total of 474,264 individuals having returned till the other day, border authorities informed on Wednesday.
On this specific day, 708 Afghan citizens, including 194 men, 156 women, and 358 children returned to their home country. The repatriation effort involved the use of 73 vehicles, facilitating the return of 96 families to Afghanistan.
This ongoing initiative was dedicated to assisting the return of Afghan nationals who had been residing unlawfully in Pakistan. The authorities said the repatriation process was still in progress and every possible facility was being provided to the returning Afghans.

SCO Transport Connectivity for Regional Development conference held

BEIJING, Jan 24 (APP): Deputy Secretary-General of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Sohail Khan took part in the videoconference, Transport Connectivity for Regional Development, held by Pakistan as part of its chairmanship of the SCO Heads of Government Council.

Sohail Khan noted the important role of transport in expanding trade and economic cooperation and contacts between people and emphasised the need for practical implementation by the SCO member states to strengthen transport links in the SCO space, according to the SCO Secretariat here.

Minister of Communications of Pakistan Shahid Ashraf Tarar greeted the participants. Experts from the SCO member states exchanged views on the current issues on the organisation’s agenda, including in the field of national strategies for developing regional connectivity, transport and logistics infrastructure, harmonising the regulatory framework within the SCO, as well as decarbonising the transport industry and adapting to climate change.
The results of the conference were summed up by Altamash Wazir Khan, a national coordinator from Pakistan.

ECP unveils final list of ten minority seats in National Assembly

ISLAMABAD, Jan 24 (APP): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has unveiled the ultimate compilation of ten minority seats within the National Assembly.

The final list consists of candidates from different parties, with 10 representing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), 5 from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), 2 from Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP), 7 from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), 4 from Jamaat-e-Islami, and 3 from Mutahidda Quomi Movement (MQM).

Al-Balsam team performs 26 operations to treat brain, nerve patients in two days

ISLAMABAD, Jan 24 (APP):“Al-Balsam” Society for Training and Health Development team has performed 26 operations to treat brain and nerve patients during the first two days of its medical campaign in the Republic of Chad, which began on January 20 and continues till January 28, under the supervision of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center.
During the first day, the medical team of “Al-Balsam” Association was able to examine 180 patients and performed 8 interventional pain operations, which varied between brain tumours, cases of hydrocephalus, and congenital malformations of the brain and spinal cord, as well as cases of tuberculosis of the vertebrae, and many cases of disc herniations and degenerative diseases of the cervical vertebrae, said a press release on Wednesday.
The team also completed 18 operations on the second day of the medical campaign, which varied between cases of dural injections, stabilization of the lumbar vertebrae, installation of a cerebrospinal fluid drainage tube to treat hydrocephalus, repair of spina bifida, stabilization of the lumbar vertebrae, cartilage removal, and expansion of the neural canal.
For his part, the ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Republic of Chad, Amer Al-Shehri, participated in the launch of “Al-Balsam” Association campaign for training and health development, to treat brain and nerve patients for free.
The event also witnessed the participation of the Minister of Public Health and Prevention of the Republic of Chad, Dr. Abdelmajid Abdelrahim, and important figures from the Ministry of Health, as well as the General Director of Al Nahda Hospital, “Al Balsam” medical team, and the team of local doctors.
The visit of “Al Balsam” Association team to the Republic of Chad is the second work of the Association after signing the cooperation agreement with King Salman Relief Centre. Its beginning was a successful medical campaign in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan last November, which resulted in performing 112 heart surgeries, all of which were crowned with success.

Facilities reviews at health centre under Khushal programme project

KOHAT, Jan 24 (APP):Assistant Commissioner Lachi Irfanullah on Wednesday visited the Health Facility Center in Tehsil Lachi here to review provision of facilities to the public under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Khushal Programme of the provincial government.
On the instruction of the Deputy Commissioner Kohat Azmatullah Wazir, the Assistant Commissioner inspected the staff attendance, OPD, laboratory, stock of medicines, cleanliness of the hospital and other facilities for the public at Type D Hospital Lachi.
Necessary instructions were issued to the staff to ensure attendance, cleanliness of the hospital and provide best medical facilities to the patients.

The fashion show was held in collaboration with renowned designer Omar Mansoor and Kaarvan Crafts Foundation, according to an embassy’s press release received on Wednesday.
In his remarks, Ambassador of Pakistan Asim Iftikhar Ahmad welcomed the guests and highlighted the contribution of rural women including artisans-entrepreneurs towards national development and shaping the hopes and dreams of millions in Pakistan.
The ambassador noted that known as the ‘cradle of civilization’, Pakistan had a lot to offer to the world when it comes to colorful, versatile and mystique arts and crafts.

Giving an insight into how the journey of the fashion show “Culture to Couture” took shape, the ambassador introduced the two partners behind the event and said that he was extremely delighted to see the way Kaarvan Crafts Foundation Pakistan promoted women empowerment, while Omar Mansoor has taken up the task of transforming the vision and work of the young generation through creative designing and sustainable quality.
Fashion in Pakistan has always been a captivating fusion of tradition and modernity, noted the ambassador, apprising the guests of Pakistan’s rich heritage of handcrafted clothing and textiles: intricate embroideries, block printing, ajrak, phulkari work, chunri making, ralli and so on.

Fashion designers are incorporating these artisanal techniques into contemporary designs, giving them a fresh and modern twist.
The ambassador said that fashion was an instant language that could help communicate among different cultures.
He said that France and Pakistan shared ties in fashion – as one is the couture capital of the world while the latter is a producer of fine garments for world-renowned brands.
For the interest of all, he recalled that it was famous French designer Pierre Cardin who designed in 1966 the outfit carried by the air hostesses of Pakistan International Airlines.
Omar Mansoor whose designs captivated the Parisian audience is a London-based Pakistani fashion designer and is best known for his couture occasion wear.
He was the first Pakistani to showcase at London Fashion Week in 2008 and has been credited with re-introducing fusion clothing into modern fashion.
Kaarvan Crafts Foundation led by Danish Khan was established in 2004 and it provides life skills to Pakistani rural women.
To date, Kaarvan has mobilized, trained and capacitated more than 29,000 women in over 1,000 of villages of 26 different districts across Pakistan. With its Theory of Change revolving around education, enablement and empowerment of women’s economic capacities –  Kaarvan places women at the heart of development.
The fashion show held at the Embassy’s beautiful hall enthralled the audience with a diversity of designs and universal appeal. The bond between the designer and the gorgeous models made the dreamy creations come to life appearing even more spectacular.
In a mix of Pak-France art and culture, the audience was also captivated by a mesmerizing performance by the ever-vivacious opera singer Clara Bellon with her fascinating voice.
A documentary featuring testimonials of female artisans-at-work facilitated by Kaarvan was also displayed. Guests were treated with traditional Pakistani cuisine.
A large number of people from different walks of life including French officials and friends, diplomats, fashion and business circles, students and media attended the fashion show.

Gangs of inter-provincial weapons, liquor suppliers busted

PESHAWAR, Jan 24 (APP):The district police in various action against criminals busted two gangs of inter-provincial suppliers of illegal weapons and liquor while arresting six accused.
According to the spokesman of district police, Pashtakhara police foiled a bid to smuggle a huge quantity of illegal weapons and ammunition and arrested four members of an inter-provincial gang of illegal weapon and ammunition suppliers.
Police recovered 59 rifles, 20 pistols, 9,000 cartridges of different bores and 145 magazines from the accused.
The accused were smuggling weapons in a Suzuki vehicle to other parts of the country.  A case has been registered against the peddlers and investigation was underway.
Similarly, Faqeerabad Division police station Paharipura busted a two-member organized group of liquor supplier and arrested the accused from a warehouse located in Haji Camp area.
The accused identified as Ali Akbar and Ismail, residents of district Kurram and Haji Camp area respectively were allegedly involved in supplying liquor to other cities of the country.
The accused had rented a warehouse in Haji camp area here from where they had been supplying the liquor across the country.
The police recovered 300 liters of liquor and other items from the warehouse.
Meanwhile, Agha Mir Jani police arrested three street criminals from Bari Bagh, Rehman Baba Graveyard areas and recovered one Kalashnikov, two bottles of liquor and two pistols.
The accused were identified as Sulaiman, Qasim and Sah Jahan.
