Anti-Corruption Department Abbottabad apprehends PTI candidate Nazir Abbasi

ABBOTTABAD, Jan 25 (APP): The Anti-Corruption Department Abbottabad on Thursday has taken into custody Nazir Abbasi, the candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) contesting from PK-42 Abbottabad IV.

Nazir Abbasi was arrested on the allegations of illegal appointment in various departments and corruption during the previous PTI government.

Nazir Abbasi, a prominent political figure in the region, was apprehended by the Anti-Corruption Department as part of their ongoing efforts to address corruption within the political landscape.

PM urges Saudi Arabia’s Jomaih Group to invest in Pakistan’s alternative energy sector

ISLAMABAD, Jan 25 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Thursday urged the Al-Jomaih Group of Saudi Arabia to invest in the alternative energy sector of Pakistan.

The prime minister, in a meeting with a four-member delegation, led by the Al-Jomaih Group head Sheikh Abdulaziz Hammad, said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had brotherly ties which were getting further stronger.

The Al-Jomaih Group had made a huge investment in the K- Electric.

The prime minister said that Pakistan greatly valued the Saudi investment and welcomed its investment in the energy sector.

He also lauded K-Electric strategy to invest in the alternative energy sector as it would help reduce the power tariff for the benefit of consumers.

The prime minister also expressed the hope that the K-Electric would further improve its infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted power supply to domestic and industrial consumers.

The Al-Jomaih Group thanked the prime minister and the government team for resolving the longstanding issues faced by the company.

Apprising the prime minister of the company’s 1500 megawatt projects, the delegation informed the prime minister that the projects would feature the usage of local resources and alternative energy.

Federal Finance Minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar, Energy Minister Muhammad Ali and relevant senior officers attended the meeting.

Norway wants to further enhance business relations with Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Jan 25 (APP): Ambassador of Norway to Pakistan Per Albert Ilsaas on Thursday said that his country country wanted to further enhance business relations with Pakistan.

Talking to a delegation delegation of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), he said that both the countries had the potential to increase bilateral trade and do more business together.

A delegation of ICCI led by President Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari visited the residence of Per Albert Ilsaas and discussed matters to further enhance cooperation between the two countries in business and investment fields, said a press release.

Ambassador of Norway said that that supporting the business communities of both countries to engage in trade and economic relations was a key priority of his embassy.

He said that a Norwegian enterprise had already signed an agreement to invest in solar and hydropower generation in Pakistan.

He said that Norway wanted to further strengthen cooperation with Pakistan in many areas including investment, shipping, climate change, renewable energy, and higher education.

He assured that his embassy would cooperate with the business community in taking bilateral business relations to higher levels.

Speaking on the occasion, Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari said that Pakistan and Norway were enjoying cordial relations that should be transformed into thriving trade and economic relations.

He said that the current level of bilateral trade was quite nominal given the actual potential of both countries.

He said that Pakistan was facing energy problems and urged Norway to make more investments in Pakistan’s renewable and hydropower sectors to generate cheap energy.

He also urged the Embassy of Norway to cooperate in enhancing business linkages between the two countries.

Senior Vice President ICCI, Faad Waheed highlighted the potential of cooperation in the blue economy between Pakistan and Norway.

Khalid Iqbal Malik, Group Leader ICCI said that Pakistan and Norway have the potential to enhance cooperation in the tourism sector and urged to accelerate efforts to realize it.

About 101 polling stations declared ‘very sensitive’

DG KHAN, Jan 25 (APP):About 101 out of 1067 polling stations were declared ‘very sensitive’ in the district on Thursday.

It was said in a meeting with Commissioner Dr Nauser Mahmood in the chair.

All-out arrangements regarding transportation security and related work about upcoming election were finalized.

RPO Sajjad Hussain, Deputy Commissioner Shahid Zaman, DPO Ahmad Mohayyidin, District Election Commissioner Imtiaz Ahmad and the concerned staff were present on the occasion.

The commissioner said everyone on the election duty had to workout for ensuring conducting of free and fair polls in their supervison.

He said quick response force of police and other security agencies was called to achieve the target.

Cctv cameras were being installed at sensitive locations.

Lasani Town on February 4.
According to organizer Hanan Chaudhry, kitchen gardening is a family festival which
has been organized regularly for the last 11 years.  Noted agriculturists, including Dr Shahzad Basra,
Javed IQbal and Sajid Iqbal Sindhu, will also attend the event.
The stalls of kitchen gardening seeds, training of planting saplings and provision of plants while
various food items prepared from ‘Gurr’, Saag, maize will also be part of the event.

Kashmiris to observe Indian Republic Day as Black Day to protest continued unlawful occupation by India

MIRPUR-AJK, Jan 25 (APP): Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and around the world, are observing the Indian Republic Day falling on Friday, January 26, as the Black Day on Thursday .

According to AJK government’s spokesperson, this annual event serves as a reminder of India’s ongoing unlawful occupation of Jammu and Kashmir and their denial of the Kashmiri people’s internationally recognized right to self-determination for the past 76 years.

The Kashmiri population, united in their hatred towards India, has been marking all of India’s national days as black days to protest against the continued subjugation and brutalities inflicted by Indian occupying forces.

This year’s Black Day holds even more significance as it falls amidst the Modi-led Indian government’s revocation of article 370 and 35-A, effectively denying the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir and deploying one million troops in the region.

Protest rallies and demonstrations will be held in all ten districts of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, with the main rally taking place in the state’s capital city. Political leaders and representatives from various organizations will lead the protets, expressing solidarity with their counterparts in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu Kashmir (IIOJK) and their struggle for freedom and self-determination

In Mirpur, a large protest rally will be held at Shaheed Chowk, followed by a procession of people from all walks of life, highlighting the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir problem and condemning India’s illegal occupation for over 76 years.

On the directions of Director FIA Faisalabad zone, the team arrested Abdul Wahid
while raids are being conducted to arrest his accomplice.
The accused had extorted Rs 300,000 from citizens for sending them abroad.

Food group imports decrease 19.48% in 06 months of FY 2023-24

ISLAMABAD, Jan 25 (APP):Food group imports into the country during the first half of the current financial year decreased by 19.48 per cent as compared to the imports of the corresponding period of last year.
During the period from July to December 2023, different food commodities costing $3.957 billion were imported as compared to the imports of $4.914 billion in the same period of last year, according to the data of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
During the period under review, the imports of the commodities that went down included milk cream, milk for infants at 25.93 per cent was recorded at $60.298 million as compared the imports of $81.404 million, wheat unmilled by 34.84 per cent and reached $39.126 million as compared the imports of $609.434 million of the same period of last year.
Meanwhile, the imports of soybeans were reduced by 41.20 per cent which came down from $155.20 million to $91.147 million in the last three quarters of the current financial year as compared to the imports of the same period of last year.
The palm oil imports also reduced during the period under review as it went down from $2.082 billion in the first six months of the last financial year to $1.388 billion in the same period of the current financial year.
Besides, the imports of sugar into the country decreased by 49.43 per cent and it was recorded at $1..693 million as against the imports of $3.347 million in the same period of last year.
On the other hand, Food group exports from the country during the first half of the current financial year grew by 49.84 per cent as compared to the exports of the corresponding period of last year.
During the period from July-December, 2023 food commodities valued at $3.481 billion were exported as against the exports of $2.323 billion of the same period of the last year.
