Teaching license exam successfully conducted, sets national benchmark

SUKKUR, Jan 29 (APP):The caretaker Minister for Education and Women’s Development, Sindh, Ms Rana Hussain has said that another milestone in the educational landscape of Sindh as the province successfully conducted the teaching license policy exam, setting a precedent for educational reform nationwide.
He said this during her visit to the examination centre in Sukkur, said a release here on Monday. Addressing the occasion, Minister Rana Hussain emphasized that Sindh has become the first province in Pakistan to complete the phase of conducting the teaching license exam following the implementation of the Teaching License Policy. She highlighted that Sindh not only formulated policies to enhance the standard of educators but also initiated practical measures to implement them effectively.
Chairman of the Sindh Teachers Development Authority (STEDA), Syed Rasool Bukhsh Shah, Director Elementary, Shihabuddin Indhar, Director Primary Sukkur Region, Muhammad Haji Barro, Principal of IB Public School Sukkur, Dr Ali Gohar Chang, Atif Hussain Vighio and others were present on the occasion.
Minister Rana Hussain was briefed that to maintain merit and transparency, third-party testing procedures were adopted, and exams were conducted in three cities of Sindh including Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur.
It is mentioned here that out of 4,351 applicants, 4,003 candidates appeared for the exam. Both in-service and prospective teachers participated in the Teaching License Test. Minister Rana Hussain emphasized the need to continue the momentum of this bright initiative, ensuring that teachers’ recognition in Sindh becomes a hallmark of professionalism. She expressed confidence that teachers, now equipped with a clear career progression path, will fulfil their responsibilities with diligence and efficacy.
She further stated that Sindh’s ongoing efforts to enhance educational standards are evident, with the recent recruitment of over 60,000 teachers based on merit. Under the auspices of IB Sukkur, a total of 544, 1499, and 1960 male and female candidates participated in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur, respectively. Provincial Secretary, of School Education Sindh, Dr Shireen Narejo inspected the exam centres in Karachi and expressed satisfaction with the arrangements.

Nawaz Sharif says he believes in public welfare

LAHORE, Jan 29 (APP):Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said on Monday that he had always made sincere efforts for welfare of the people of the country and would continue this mission with high spirit.
He said this while talking to party workers here. Nawaz Sharif said that when he was in power petrol, ghee and flour were available at affordable prices, adding that there was a dire need to bring back that time.
He said that it was his party’s agenda to ensure the respect of green flag and green passport globally.
If Nawaz Sharif had not been ousted then people would have not been facing unemployment, he added.
He said, “Today he has come to his constituency and collective efforts will be made to ensure development in the country.”
PML-N Chief Organizer Maryam Nawaz said that people were well aware of everything as nothing was hidden from them. She said that each and every vote was vital for uplift of the country, adding that people must exercise their right to vote on February 8.

Various problems can be solved if people pay taxes: Mayor Karachi

KARACHI, Jan 29 (APP):Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Monday said that Karachi’s economic situation and infrastructure are not major challenges and many problems can be solved if people pay taxes.
He said this while talking to Consul General of Austria Mrs. Andrea Wicke who along with Commercial Consul Dr. Johannes Brunner and Chairman PM Task Force for Strategic Reforms Unit, Hussain Islam called on the Mayor Karachi in his office here.
The Mayor Karachi said that his doors are always open to all people for solving public problems, in this regard the current administration has adopted an open door policy to increase public relations and solve all the problems of the city as soon as possible.
Earlier, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab welcomed the Austrian Consul General and members of his delegation at Jamshed Nasserwanji Building (KMC head office) and discussed matters of mutual interest with them.
Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab informed Consul General Austria about the history of City Council and KMC on this occasion.
He said that Pakistan and Austria can promote mutual cooperation in the fields of infrastructure development, education and research. Both countries can learn from each other’s experiences and ensure better facilities for their citizens, he added.
He said that Austria can provide assistance to students from Pakistan in education and other fields, German language is spoken in Austria and we can help the youth to learn it so that they can have opportunities to make a better future in Austria.
The Mayor Karachi said that the biggest problem of Karachi is the supply of drinking water, fifty percent of the water is wasted due to leakage in the lines. Work is underway on two new projects to supply water in different districts of the city. 80 MGD of additional water will be available to Karachi from these projects, he said.
He said that the city administration is also solving the transport problems on a priority basis, Karachi currently needs 2000 buses, but 300 new buses are being added for the citizens, which will allow the citizens to travel within the city with ease.
He said that there are attractive opportunities for foreign investment in Sindh province including Karachi, which Austrian investors can take advantage of. We would welcome foreign participation and cooperation in public welfare projects and foreign investors will be fully supported and helped in this connection, he said

Secretary C&W reviews steps of departmental promotion BPS-1-15

QUETTA, Jan 29 (APP):Secretary Communications and Works (C&W) Kamber Dashti on Monday presided over a meeting regarding departmental promotion BPS (1-15) in the department.
Chief Engineer of the three circles of the province, Roads Additional Secretary of the Department of Communications and Works, Amir Hamza Zehri, Chief Engineer Design, Dr. Sajjad Baloch and senior officials of the Department of C&W were also present in the meeting.
The meeting was briefed in detail regarding promotion cases in the department.
On this occasion, Secretary Communications and Works Kamber Dashti said that getting promotion during the service was very important and mandatory for the employees and it was the first effort of every employee to get promotion in his tenure period.
While giving instructions, he said that all the promotion cases of the department should be speedily completed so that the employees could get their right at the right time.
The Secretary further said that our first effort was to solve all the problems related to promotion in the department which should be resolved on an emergency basis so that no employee suffers any loss in terms of service.

Shania Khan visits Quetta Central Jail

QUETTA, Jan 29 (APP):Caretaker Adviser to Chief Minister of Balochistan for the Department of Social Welfare and Women’s Development Shania Khan visited the Quetta Central Jail on Monday.
Director General Social Welfare Government of Balochistan Tariq Javed Mengal was also present on this occasion.
During the visit, the clothes of the male and female prisoners and their children including the young prisoners,
She also distributed toys and other essentials including sewing machines among women prisoners to make them skilled.
Later, the provincial adviser made a detailed visit to the jail, Superintendent Central Jail Quetta Ishaq Zahri gave a briefing about the parts and facilities of the jail to Shania Khan during visiting,
On this occasion, she also made a detailed inspection of the measures taken in the prison to reform the prisoners and make them skilled.
Shania Khan and DG Social Welfare Tariq Javed Mengal also visited the football ground established in the jail.
While appreciating, she said that measures should be taken to increase the interest of the prisoners in physical activities because sports are very important for physical and mental health.

PSL 9: supplementary and replacement players announced

LAHORE, Jan 29 (APP):Several supplementary and replacement players have been added to the six HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) squads during the Replacement Draft that took place over a conference call on Monday. The PSL 9 is scheduled to start from February 17.
Peshawar Zalmi, announcing their replacements, drafted Waqar Salamkheil in the silver category for Lungi Ngidi, who was not available for the whole season after being picked in the HBL PSL Draft in December. Fast bowler Khurram Shahzad will be partially available, with pacer Arshad Iqbal named as his replacement in silver category. Gus Atkinson is set to replace Noor Ahmed, who is not available to Peshawar Zalmi due to international commitments. Meanwhile, they have reserved their pick for the replacement of partially available Naveenul Haq.
Lahore Qalandars reserved their picks for Rashid Khan, fully unavailable and Dan Lawrence, partially unavailable to the franchise.
Islamabad United, too, reserved their pick for Tom Curran, who will not be part of the side for this HBL PSL edition. Karachi Kings have called in Zahid Mehmood as a partial replacement of Kieron Pollard while they have reserved their pick for Tim Seifert, who will be available after the conclusion of the New Zealand T20Is.
Quetta Gladiator’s Bismillah Khan will replace Wanindu Hasaranga after Sri Lanka’s Hasaranga will leave the squad during the tournament owing to his international commitments.
In the first and second pick of the third supplementary round, left-arm pacers Luke Wood and Obed McCoy were bagged by Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United, respectively.
Karachi Kings had the third pick and they went for English middle-order batter Leus De Plooy meanwhile the fourth pick belonged to Lahore Qalandars who took on board the Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who featured for Peshawar Zalmi in the last HBL PSL season.
Multan Sultans had the fifth pick in the third supplementary round and they went for the experienced West Indian wicketkeeper-batter Johnson Charles, who has represented Sultans and Quetta Gladiators in previous HBL PSL seasons.
Quetta Gladiators, with the last pick of the round three, drafted English batter Laurie Evans, who previously appeared in his solitary HBL PSL season for Multan Sultans in the 2019 edition.
The fourth round of the Supplementary picks saw Sultans bagging the exciting 19-year-old Muhammad Shahzad, who was part of Pakistan U19 at the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2022.
Haider Ali was drafted into the Islamabad United squad, with the batter all set to feature in his fifth HBL PSL season with Islamabad being his third franchise.
Quetta Gladiators reserved their pick in the fourth round. The fourth pick of the round saw Peshawar Zalmi drafting in left-arm wrist spinner, Sufiyan Muqeem, who was part of the same team in the last HBL PSL season. With the fifth pick in this round, Lahore Qalandars picked up Tayyab Abbas, a product of their player development program. Karachi Kings drafted 21-year-old Mohammad Rohid as part of their squad.

Talking to APP, the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) official said that despite of cold weather, a large number of tourists are visiting marvellous and popular tourist destinations such as Malam Jabba, Kalam, Naran, Kaghan, Swat, Murree, Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
He said that numerous people have planned to visit these areas with their families to enjoy the picturesque beauty of hilly areas amid snowfall.
He urged the tourists to wear appropriate outdoor clothing including preferably a wind-resistant coat or jacket, warm clothing, and inner layers of light and waterproof boots.
The official said the AJK tourism department has already constituted welcome receptions, helplines and information centres at all entry and exit points to facilitate domestic visitors and foreign tourists.

CM ensures full support for peaceful elections

LAHORE, Jan 29 (APP):Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting with Provincial Election Commissioner Punjab Ijaz Anwar Chauhan to discuss the peaceful conduct of upcoming general elections and review the preparations.
Mohsin Naqvi, in his remarks, assured full support from the Punjab government for the seamless execution of the election process. He emphasized the implementation of the Election Commission’s code of conduct, and measures will be taken to ensure compliance.
The chief minister further stated that law enforcement, including the police and other security agencies, will play a pivotal role in upholding the rule of law during the electoral process.
The Provincial Election Commissioner acknowledged the valuable cooperation of the Punjab government in this regard.

RMC holds White Coat ceremony to welcome first-year students

PESHAWAR, Jan 29 (APP):Rehman Medical College (RMC) Peshawar on Monday held a white coat ceremony to welcome its first-year MBBS students.
The ceremony was attended by students, their parents and guests of honor, including Dr. Riaz Anwar, Advisor to the caretaker chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Health.
During the ceremony, students and their parents planted saplings and took an oath of dedication to their chosen profession. They vowed to uphold the highest ethical standards in their medical practice.
Dr. Anwar, in his address, praised RMC for its high standards and outstanding faculty. LESCO modernizes training facilities at RTC

LAHORE, Jan 29 (APP):Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has put in order modern facilities for training of Meter Readers at its Regional Training Center (RTC).
The RTC Principal Major Aurangzeb told media here Monday that following directives of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Engineer Shahid Haider, various measures have been taken to improve the skills and abilities of all its staff. He added that recently, meter reading and billing software has been introduced at the Center and the IT laboratory has also been modernized.
The RTC has also arranged a training programme for Commercial Instructors, who would teach the incoming commercial staff about the modern methods of meter reading and billing, he said and asserted that it would not only improve the meter reading and billing system of the company but also resolve the customers’ complaints speedily.
The training classes for the LESCO officers and field staff have been started at the RTC, and they are also being taught the new techniques to prevent electricity theft.
