Five ‘criminals’ arrested

SARGODHA, Feb 01 (APP):Sargodha police launched a massive crackdown on law violators on Thursday and arrested five alleged criminals.
Police said that teams of different police stations raided different localities and arrested Tahir, Kamran, Waheed, Shakoor and Nouman. The police recovered 2-kg hashish, 1-kg opium, three guns and four pistols.
Further investigation was under way.

National Students Olympic Games kick off

ISLAMABAD, Feb 01 (APP): The opening ceremony of National Students Olympic Games 2024 was held here at the Liaquat Gymnasium of Pakistan Sports Complex on Thursday.

Teams of students from different educational institutions from across the country were participating in the mega event.

The National Games would continue till February 5. Games including volleyball, netball, table tennis, futsal, chess, basketball, gymnastics and other athletics competitions would be held in the National Games.

The players who would win in the National Games will get the opportunity to play at international level.

OIC ombudsmen pledge to address global injustices; condemn Israeli brutalities in Palestine

ISLAMABAD, Feb 1 (APP):The ombudsmen of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries have reiterated their commitment to addressing global injustices, with a particular focus on the dire circumstances faced by the people of Palestine.
The ombudsmen of the Muslim world met in the board meeting of the OIC Ombudsman Association (OICOA) attended by members from Turkiye, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Morocco, and Bahrain in person, while the one from Iran participated virtually, creating a diverse and unified front against these grave concerns, said a news release issued here on Thursday.
Secretary General of OICOA and Federal Tax Ombudsman of Pakistan, Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah stated, “We must elevate our collective voice to echo the cries of the innocent who suffer daily. The brutalities of the Zionist regime cannot go unchallenged,” calling for decisive and impactful advocacy beyond empathy.
Dr. Jah emphasized the need for unified strength and action within the Ombudsman community, saying, “Now, more than ever, our solidarity, effort, and cooperation are vital. We possess the power to drive change.”
President of OICOA and Chief Ombudsman of Turkiye, Seref Malkoc, highlighted the escalating issue of Islamophobia in European countries and lamented the collapse of humanity witnessed in the ongoing Palestinian genocide.
He expressed disappointment in the silence of global leaders amidst the despair and devastation.
Malkoc applauded South Africa’s initiative in bringing Israel’s actions to the International Court of Justice and expressed hope that Palestinians would rise from the ashes.
The Board Members unanimously condemned the ongoing atrocities in Palestine and supported the leadership of OICOA’s call for immediate and practical intervention. They pledged support from their respective ombudsman offices for bringing the atrocities of the Zionist Israeli regime to the forefront.
Executive Secretary OICOA, Almas Ali Jovindah, described the Board Meeting as a significant turning point for the impactful future of OICOA.
He emphasized that the determination to move from passive observation to active intervention was a testament to OICOA’s commitment to upholding human dignity and rights, promising the Palestinian people that their suffering has not gone unnoticed, and their fight for justice is shared by Muslim brothers and sisters worldwide.

ETPB land retrieved

FAISALABAD, Feb 01 (APP):The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) retrieved property of the
Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB).
According to official sources here Thursday, the anti-corruption circle of the agency
retrieved over 988 acres of land in Mahanat Darshan village, district Pakpattan.
The market value of the land is more than Rs 2.27 billion. The possession of the land
was handed over to the ETPB.

Seven Pakistani firms to participate in US power sports trade show

ISLAMABAD, Feb 1 (APP): Seven Pakistani companies are set to make a maiden appearance at AIM Expo- North America’s biggest power sports trade show being held from February 6-8.

To be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Expo would also mark the presence of Pakistani firms at the Pakistan Pavilion to be established with the collaboration of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and the Consulate General of Pakistan in Los Angeles.

AIMExpo is the single most important event for the North American power sports Industry that brings together industry, media and dealers in a single arena to provide them a comprehensive B2B platform.

Separately, Ambassador of Pakistan in Vietnam Samina Mehtab hosted a dinner for Vietnamese businesspersons to explore the potential of increasing the export of agricultural products from Pakistan to Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ambassador in Bahrain Saqib Rauf called on President of RCSI Bahrain Sameer Otoom to discuss potential avenues of cooperation.

Several injuries reported in Turbat blast.

ISLAMABAD, Feb 1 (APP):Several injuries were reported in an explosion that occurred near the Ghulam Nabi Chowk in Turbat, Balochistan on Thursday.
According to a private news channel, the police confirmed that the blast took place in the Ghulam Nabi Chowk area of Turbat city. However, the type of explosive device used has not yet been determined.
As soon as the incident was reported, a heavy contingent of police and Balochistan Levies reached the spot, cordoned off the area, and started a search operation.

DMO takes actions against individuals for violating elections code of conduct

ISLAMABAD, Feb 1 (APP):District Monitoring Offices (DMO) have swiftly taken actions and imposed penalties against individuals for violating the upcoming Elections code of conduct.
In Hangu district, Council Chairman Arif Khan in the Gul Bagh area has been fined Rs. 5,000, and Village Council Chairman Mardan Khel has been served a notice. Independent candidate Zulfiqar Khan for Ward 58 in Kohat has been fined Rs. 25,000, while Tehsil Chairman of Ghazni Khel, Lucky Marwat, has been summoned for questioning.
Haji Muhammad Shoaib, a Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) candidate from Kohat, has been fined Rs. 20,000. Additionally, three Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan candidates and independent candidate Dawood Afridi from Kohat have also faced fines and notices for violating the code of conduct.
In DI Khan, Imran Javed alias Suhail Rajput, Ahmed Kareem Kundi, and Mayor Council Omar Amin Khan from PK-113 have each been fined Rs. 30,000 per case. Candidates from various parties in DI Khan and Bannu, including ANP, JUI, Muslim League-N, and others, have also faced fines and notices for violations.
In Khairpur, District Monitoring Officer has taken action against government employee Akbar Lashari, fining him Rs. 50,000 for violating ethical standards during the crowning ceremony of People’s Party candidate Nafeesa Shah.
The DMO’s actions aim to ensure compliance with the Elections code of conduct and maintain ethical standards during the electoral process.

12th annual kitchen gardening festival Feb 4

FAISALABAD, Feb 01 (APP): The 12th annual kitchen gardening festival, coupled with a seminar and training, would be held here on February 4.
During a day-long activity, the participants would be provided guidance about seasonal vegetables, selection of high quality seeds, farming techniques, selection of soil and watering, importance of fresh vegetables in respect of their food nutrients and medically, control of insects, diseases, use of fertilizer and scope of kitchen gardening, etc.
Dr Shahzad Basra, Javed IQbal Green Gardens, Sajid Iqbal Sindhu agriculturist and others would also attend the event in the main ground, Lasani Garden.
Hanan Chaudhry, an organiser, said on Thursday this is a family festival which had been organised regularly for the last 11 years. The families especially children would be introduced with various food items prepared with ‘Gur’ and other desi foods.
Vegetable seeds, varieties of sapling will also be available in the festival.

DC Murree visits different areas to review arrangements to facilitate tourists

RAWALPINDI, Feb 01 (APP):Deputy Commissioner (DC) Murree, Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi on Wednesday night visited Express Highway and other areas to review arrangements made to facilitate tourists and the ongoing operation to remove snow and clear roads.
The DC informed that the Municipal Corporation ‘Nari’ had cleared all the roads and kept the traffic flowing despite the difficult weather conditions.
Traffic was slow due to traffic rush and slippery roads within the limits of Municipal Corporation Murree, the DC said.
The officers and other personnel of different departments were present in the field, he informed.
The DC Murree directed National Highway Authority (NHA) officials to provide immediate assistance to the administration and advised the tourists to get information about weather conditions before visiting Murree.
He asked the visitors to follow the advisory issued by the tourist district administration.
Monitoring of various roads was being conducted from the control room through CCTV cameras, he informed.
According to MET Office, Murree received 8.5 inch snow till midnight on Wednesday.
According to Murree district administration spokesman, Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue, Murree Capt. (Rtd) Qasim Ijaz was monitoring the traffic flow and operation to remove snow from different roads.
The administration was taking all possible measures in collaboration with the traffic police to ensure flow of traffic, he said.
He informed that a large number of tourists were coming to Murree to enjoy the snowfall and the administration was making all-out efforts to provide all possible facilities to them.
The spokesman said that Relief Commissioner Punjab Nabeel Javed had directed the Murree administration to remain alert particularly during snowfall.
The Relief Commissioner had also warned that no compromise would be on negligence on part of the officials concerned. Snow should also be removed within shortest possible time frame while using heavy machinery, the Relief Commissioner ordered.
The flow of traffic on the roads should be ensured at all cost, Nabeel Javed said.
It is the responsibility of the administration to provide all possible facilities to the tourists according to the weather condition, he said.
The tourists had also been requested to check the weather conditions before coming to Murree.
Snowfall in ‘Queen of Hills’, Murree attracts a large number of tourists and the administration was striving to facilitate them and avoid any untoward incident, Nabeel Javed added.
ADCR, Qasim Ijaz while appreciating efforts the departments concerned said that all the personnel concerned were in the field despite extreme cold and snow.
