Rain-delayed match sees Bangladesh ‘A’ dominate on day three

ISLAMABAD, Aug 22 (APP): After two days of rain and a wet outfield, the second four-day match between Pakistan Shaheens and Bangladesh ‘A’ finally saw action at the Islamabad Club on Thursday.
Bangladesh ‘A’ capitalized on the conditions, posting a commanding total of 346-6 at the close of play.
Winning the toss and opting to field, Pakistan Shaheens found themselves on the back foot as Bangladesh’s top order delivered solid performances. Jakir Ali was the standout performer for the visitors as he remained unbeaten on 136. His was well-supported by Saif Hassan, who scored a composed 111. Mahidul Islam Ankon contributed 39 runs, while Shahadat Hossain chipped in with 23.
The Shaheens’ bowlers had a challenging day, with Ghulam Mudassar taking 2-59 and Mehran Mumtaz claiming 2-67. Abrar Ahmed managed a wicket but conceded 85 runs in the process.

IGP pays tribute to cop martyred by criminals

LAHORE, Aug 22 (APP):Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has paid a heartfelt tribute to Constable Abid Ali, who was martyred by the firing of criminals in Faisalabad.
He said that constable Abid Ali achieved the highest rank of martyrdom in the line of duty, and the department will always remember his sacrifice. He assured that every possible care will be taken for the welfare of the martyr’s family.
RPO Faisalabad Dr. Muhammad Abid Khan visited Allied Hospital and met martyr’s family. Dr. Muhammad Abid Khan said that every possible step will be taken for the best welfare of the martyr’s family.

NA body lauds Olympic gold-medalist Arshad Nadeem

ISLAMABAD, Aug 22 (APP): The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) on Thursday commended 2024 Paris Olympics gold medalist Arshad Nadeem for making the nation proud by achieving such feat for the country.
The IPC Committee which met here today under the Chairmanship of Sana Ullah Khan Mastikhek, Member of the National Assembly also acknowledged the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) initiatives to promote sports activities in the country.
In the meeting, Secretary IPC briefed the Committee on the Ministry’s functions, including coordination between the Federal Government and the Provinces in economic, cultural, and administrative fields.
The briefing also highlighted efforts to promote uniformity in policy formulation and implementation between the Provinces and the Federal Government.
The Committee was informed about the attached departments, including the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), the Department of Tourist Services (DTS), the Gun and Country Club (GCC), the National Internship Program, the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council, and the Federal Land Commission (FLC). Additionally, discussions covered the signing of MOUs with other countries and international organizations related to sports, tourism, and youth.
The Ministry also provided the Committee with updates on the latest status of human resources within the Ministry and its affiliated organizations. The Committee was informed about the budget allocations for the Ministry and its associated departments.
Additionally, the Committee was presented with the organograms of these departments.
A comprehensive briefing was also given on the sports infrastructure, the composition of the Pakistan Sports Board, and its various initiatives.
Meanwhile, the Department of Tourist Services presented an overview of its activities from its inception to the present. It was also noted that the National Internship Program was active from 2006 to 2009 but became dormant and has not undertaken any assignments since 2019.
The Committee directed the Secretary IPC, to provide complete details of the organizations under the Pakistan Sports Board, including their Presidents and other position holders, as well as medals awarded to the players during the last five years.
Furthermore, the illegal orders/decisions made by PSB shall be reversed, with a report submitted to the Committee.
The Committee inquired about the selection criteria for the Chairmen and Members of the Federal Land Commission, along with their performance, and requested that this information be provided to the Committee.
The Committee recommended assigning the subject of the Council of Common Interest to IPC.
The Committee also expressed concern over the non-framing of rules for the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council and directed the Secretary to finalize them without any further delay.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Muhammad Idrees, Anjum Aqeel Khan, Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasir, Ms. Shaista Khan, Haji Rasool Bux Chandio, Syeda Shehla Raza, Muhammad Miqdad Ali Khan, Jamshaid Ahmad, and Adil Khan Bazai, Secretary IPC and heads of the attached departments.

Security measures for Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) discussed

FAISALABAD, Aug 22 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Capt (Rtd) Nadeem Nasir has said that comprehensive security and administrative measures have been taken by the district administration regarding the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS).
He said that the cooperation of Ulema of all schools of thought and traders is vital in the implementation of the measures.
He said this while addressing the District Peace Committee meeting here on Thursday. CPO Kamran Adil, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr. Shahab Aslam and other officers were present in the meeting.  Maulana Muhammad Yusuf Anwar, Sahibzada Faiz Rasool, Mufti Muhammad Zia Madani, Syed Jaafar Naqvi, Maulana Riaz Kharal, Maulana Yasin Zafar, Maulana Abdul Rasheed, Dr. Mumtaz Hussain, Dr. Iftikhar Naqvi, Ashiq Hussain Rizvi, Khawaja Shahid Razak Saka, Muhammad Amin Butt, Muhammad Khabib, Mian Tanveer Riaz, Rashid Mahmood, Bishop of Faisalabad. Dr. Andryas Rahmat and others were also present.
The Deputy Commissioner welcomed the commendable services of the scholars of all schools of thought regarding the establishment of peace and religious harmony in the district.
He assured that effective measures will be taken to solve the problems identified by the scholars.
The CPO appreciated the cooperation of the scholars for the establishment of peace and informed about the arrangements made on the occasion of Chehlum.

1st Business Research International Conference launched at UVAS

UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Muhammad Younus (DLA.I, T.I) presided over the launching ceremony while Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Business Management Prof Dr Muhammad Azam, Chairman Department of Economics & Business Management Prof Dr Rana Muhammad Ayub and number of faculty members were also present.
While addressing the ceremony, Prof Dr Muhammad Younus said despite of financial constraints UVAS recently launched different degree programmes in Ravi Campus Pattoki and Business School to increase university income for the best interest of UVAS. He said, “I am willing to provide all facilities to UVAS Business School and maximum support to conduct BRICL conference in a befitting manner as well.”
Earlier, Prof Dr Rana Muhammad Ayyub spoke about the aim and objective of the conference and Business School activities for the promotion of education and its MPhil and recently launched PhD program.
The international conference will be comprised of three keynotes and a penal discussion. The objectives of the conference will provide a platform to researchers to showcase their research work and will also provide direction regarding the latest business practices in Pakistan.

No religion permits violence: Ramesh Singh

LAHORE, Aug 22 (APP):Provincial Minister for Minorities Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora said on Thursday that no religion permitted violence.
In his special message on the International Day Commemorating Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief, he said there was no religion that encouraged violence against people of different beliefs. The minister condemned violence on the basis of religion and belief. He emphasised that people around the world, including Muslims, are being targeted due to their religion, with the rise in Islamophobia being a prime example. For decades, Muslims in Kashmir and Palestine have been subjected to violence based on their beliefs.
 Ramesh Arora highlighted that Pakistan gives equal respect to followers of all religions and beliefs. The white color in Pakistan’s flag represents different religious communities, signifying that all Pakistanis are equal and no discrimination is made. Any hand raised against minorities is dealt with firmly. The Government of Punjab is committed to promoting religious harmony and tolerance. He further stated that discrimination or violence based on one’s religion or belief must be stopped. It is our collective responsibility to promote love, tolerance, and brotherhood in society. It is essential to defeat those who attempt to fuel religious discrimination and hatred.
 The minister appealed to the public to stand against violence and prejudice and to play their role in creating a peaceful and secure society.

SC issues written order for removal of Monal Restaurant

ISLAMABAD, Aug 22 (APP):The Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued a detailed order regarding the shifting of Monal Restaurant from Margalla Hills National Park.
A 25-page judgment is authored by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa.
It said, “The fundamental right to life, and to live it with dignity (respectively Articles 9 and 14 of the Constitution) is to live in a world which has an abundance of all species. It has by now been scientifically well established that if the earth becomes bereft of birds, animals, insects, trees, plants, clean rivers, unpolluted air, soil it will be the Civil Petition No. 304 of 2022 etc. 25 precursor of our destruction, and scientific research establishes that nothing in nature is without value and purpose.’’
The order read, ‘That on 11 September 2024 the Wildlife Board will take over the possession of the said restaurants, that is, Monal, La Montana and Gloria Jeans, with the full assistance of CDA and the Islamabad Capital Territory Police, and the entrances to said area shall be barricaded. Thereafter the same shall be demolished with minimal disturbance to the wildlife and by avoiding damage to the trees of the National Park. The debris shall be removed and disposed of properly, and not within the precincts of the National Park. The Wildlife Board shall then determine how best to utilize the mountain ridge on which stood the said restaurants, and it may consult experts and environmentalists to examine whether the foundations of the said structures should also be removed or the same be left in and used to make an artificial lake to collect rainwater which can be used to put out fires that erupt in the National Park.”
The judgment said, “However, under no circumstances should the building be left abandoned/derelict nor leave any debris on the said site. Every effort should be made to ensure that the said land again becomes an integral part of the National Park.”
It said that the lease agreement of the Monal Restaurant with Capital Development Authority (CDA) has already ended.
It said, “The Secretary, Ministry of Climate Change and the Director General, Environmental Protection Agency shall jointly conduct a survey of Monal Restaurant and other buildings constructed in the area to assess the damage caused to the environment and thereafter take such measures and actions as may be necessary to avoid further environmental degradation.
The Chairman of the Development Authority Capital shall forthwith advise the Secretary, Ministry of Defence regarding the enforced and applicable laws.”

PHA retrieves state land along Sattukatla drain

LAHORE, Aug 22 (APP):The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Lahore has cleared illegal encroachments along the Sattukatla drain to restore the greenbelt, Director General Muhammad Tahir Wattoo confirmed on Thursday.
The day-long operation, which continued late into Thursday evening, resulted in removal of several temporary residential and commercial setups along the drain, which also passes through the upscale neighborhood of Model Town.
During the drive, the PHA staff cleared a 1.5-km stretch from Peco Road to Al-Karim Chowk, following several warnings to encroachers to vacate the premises, which they did not heed.
Following the clearance, the PHA started horticultural work along the drain, planting a variety of seasonal flowers to enhance the area’s aesthetic appeal. According to Wattoo, the department also plans to plant native trees along the drain, contributing to the increase of Lahore’s green cover.
Following the cleanup campaign, the department will launch a public awareness initiative to sensitize the community on the importance of cleanliness.
Meanwhile, Wattoo instructed directors to implement a comprehensive strategy for removing encroachments citywide and to establish an effective monitoring system in each zone.

LAHORE, Aug 22 (APP):Chief Executive Officer of the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) Imran Amin Thursday visited different sites where development work is in progress.
The detailed visit started with reviewing progress at river training site, where training is underway with the emergence of main creek along the series of promenades with varied elevation designed to control, mitigate and subdue the hydrological stress and floods based on 1000 years of repeat water cycle in the river. Out of the first phase of river training, 3-km has already been completed with package 1, 1A, 2 and 2B under accelerated progress. Imran Amin also inaugurated construction work for package 6, which links the already done earthwork with Lahore-Sialkot Motorway (LSM).
Commenting on the progress, he said that as RUDA’s cardinal objective is to make River Ravi enliven again, “it is a matter of pride that we have traversed quite a space in the direction and in coming two, three years, Ravi will be flowing as a perennial river with its creek having 59 billion litres of water with its first barrage”.
The CEO, while visiting the Mehmood Booti dump site, appreciated the site engineers for the meticulous undertaking of its conversion into a most modern urban jungle and park with a solar power array, generating five megawatts of electricity. This will beautify the city and will convert the eye soar into an Aden for both the denizens and the passersby of the ring road.
Moreover, the CEO also visited the upcoming flagship residential project Chaharbagh where he was briefed by senior officials about the developmental work completed so far. Imran Amin instructed the RUDA officials on site to speed up the communication infrastructure, linking up with trunk and also feasibility finalization of a flyover, linking Chaharbagh with Ring Road.
