JACOBABAD, Aug 19 (APP):The city police  on Monday arrested two outlaws and recovered a motorcycle from them.
The police spokesman said the police team on a tip off, conducted a raid in Post office street, arrested the outlaws identified as Muzammal alias Kullo and Ahter.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 19 (APP): JazzCash, Pakistan’s leading fintech platform has launched its latest feature, ‘Tap-Pay for Businesses’, enabling over 350,000 businesses across the country to accept payments through their Android smartphones.

This cutting-edge feature allows businesses to seamlessly receive payments from any contactless debit or credit card or another smartphone with a simple tap on the businesses’ NFC-enabled device, said a news release.

The launch closely follows JazzCash’s recent introduction of the ‘Tap-Pay’ feature for customers, which allows customers to make payments directly from their phones.

Together, these features will help establish an end-to-end contactless payment ecosystem in Pakistan.

Murtaza Ali, President of JazzCash, said, “Our goal is to empower both customers and businesses. With Tap-Pay, we aim to enhance Pakistan’s payment ecosystem with innovative solutions that are not only relevant but also accessible to all. This is a significant milestone as we continue to lead the way in digital financial inclusion and redefine how small businesses manage transactions.”

As of Q3 of FY 2023-24, over 47 million debit and credit cards are in circulation in Pakistan, and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reported card purchases on POS machines totaling Rs. 394 billion during the same period.

By enabling businesses using JazzCash to tap into this market, the fintech platform is opening new revenue streams for businesses and fostering greater financial inclusion.

The introduction of the ‘‘Tap-Pay for Businesses’ feature has been made possible through a strategic collaboration with Mastercard, technology partner Wizzit Holdings, and acquiring partner Bank of Punjab.

These partnerships have been crucial in developing the infrastructure required to bring this innovative feature to market.

ICT police nab car theft duo in major crackdown; stolen laptops, cash recovered

ISLAMABAD, Aug 19 (APP): In a significant breakthrough, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police’s Industrial Area team arrested two members of a notorious car theft gang. The suspects, identified as Roman and Ikramullah, were apprehended following a targeted operation that resulted in the recovery of valuable laptops and cash.

A Public Relations Officer from the ICT Police talking to this scribe on Monday said, under the specific instructions of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Ali Raza, a crackdown on criminal elements has been launched to protect citizens’ lives and property. Acting on these directives, the Industrial Area Police utilized both technical and human resources to successfully capture the accused.ICT police nab car theft duo in major crackdown; stolen laptops, cash recoveredThe arrested individuals have confessed to a series of thefts involving laptops, cash, and mobile phones, committed by breaking vehicle windows. Their criminal activities spanned various locations, including Shifa Parking, Blue Area, Sector G-9, and Faisal Masjid.

Malik Zahoor, the owner of Rajgan Motors and a vehicle dealer, praised the police for their recent success in apprehending the duo of car lifters who have been causing significant distress in the community. “This successful operation marks a notable step forward in combating vehicle theft and restoring a sense of security among residents” he remarked.

However, a citizen Akram Ali also highlighted the ongoing issue of high-value thefts from parked vehicles, citing his own experience where thieves stole equipment worth around 1.1 million from his Toyota Corolla parked in the G-11 sector. The recovery of which, he said, was still awaited.

He noted that thefts, including those of LCD batteries, have become increasingly a routine. Ali urged the police to build on their recent success by enhancing security measures and taking stricter actions to prevent such crimes in the future.

Shaheens set to face Bangladesh ‘A’ in second four-dayer on Tuesday

ISLAMABAD, Aug 19 (APP): Pakistan Shaheens cricket team will take on Bangladesh ‘A’ in the second four-day match on Tuesday at the Islamabad Club after the first four-dayer ended up as a draw.

Pakistan Shaheens and Bangladesh ‘A’ have made wholesale changes to their squads after the conclusion of the first four-dayer as Shaheens have welcomed eight new players while six players joined Bangladesh ‘A’ after the Test squad players left for national duty.

Uncapped top-order batter Kamran Ghulam who was released from the Pakistan Test squad, along with Abrar Ahmed, will lead the Shaheens in the second four-dayer.
In the Shaheens squad Abrar Ahmed, Ali Zaryab, Imam Ul Haq, Mohammad Awais Anwar, Niaz Khan, Qasim Akram, Rohail Nazir and Sharoon Siraj replaced Mir Hamza, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Huraira, Mohammad Rameez Jnr, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Saud Shakeel.

Mohammad Naim, Mohammad Saifuddin, Saif Hassan, Soumya Sarkar, Towhid Hridoy, and Zakir Ali have replaced Hasan Mahmud, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Nayeem Hasan, and Zakir Hasan in the Bangladesh ‘A’ squad.

Pakistan Shaheens captain Kamran Ghulam said: “It is a great opportunity for me to lead the Pakistan Shaheens side in the second four-dayer. I’m excited to see myself in this role and help the team with my leadership and batting.

“We will look to win the second four-day match and clinch the series which will be a huge confidence booster for the players going into a busy red-ball season.

“We are well aware of the conditions at the Islamabad Club and will look to make the most of the learnings acquired during the first four-day match. The new players who have joined the squad are exciting and will hopefully contribute towards Shaheens’ success in the second game.”

Bangladesh ‘A’ captain Anamul Haque said:“After a few changes to our squad we are now focused on giving our best in the second four-day match. We were tested in the first four-dayer and that experience will surely help us going into this game.

“Like the Shaheens squad, our team has also seen some changes with more experienced players leaving for the Test squad but I have a lot of confidence in the young players as they are talented and dynamic.

“I’m aware that the second four-day match will be hard fought because of the series win stakes attached to it and we are looking forward to challenge the opposition while expressing our skills in the best possible manner.”

Rescue 1122 sources informed that Tariq Mehmood (22) r/o Moza Jhok Lakhi was cutting fodder by machine when all of sudden he received severe electric shock and died on the spot.
Rescue 1122 teams after reaching the spot,shifted the body to hospital for necessary legal formalities.

ICT admin cracks down on plastic bags; fines Rs 20,000

ISLAMABAD, Aug 19 (APP):The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has started a firm campaign against the use of plastic bags in local markets of the Federal Capital, with a clear message: violations will not be tolerated.
During a recent visit to the H-9 Sunday bazaar, Assistant Commissioner I-9 enforced the district’s strict ban on plastic bags said the spokesman of the ICT administration.
During the market visit, the AC accompanied by district administration teams confiscated plastic bags and the imposition of a Rs 20,000 fine on those found using them.
This action is part of a broader effort to eliminate the use of plastic bags in Islamabad, as highlighted by the Deputy Commissioner.
The district administration has adopted a zero-tolerance policy, meaning any violation of the ban would be met with strict legal action, the spokesman added.
On the occasion, the Assistant Commissioner emphasized that the ban was comprehensive, and enforcement would be consistent across all markets.
The district’s commitment to this policy aimed to ensure that plastic bags were completely removed from circulation in the city.

AIOU launches tree plantation campaign

ISLAMABAD, Aug 19 (APP):Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has initiated a major tree plantation campaign to address climate change.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood inaugurated the campaign by planting a Moringa tree, emphasizing the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Dr. Nasir Mahmood stated, “AIOU is dedicated to the national tree plantation effort, with plans to plant trees across all the 54 campuses and engage our students in this crucial cause.” Deans, Professors, and other officials joined in.
Earlier, during a briefing on the monsoon tree plantation, Wajih ul Hassan, the Horticulture Officer from the Department of Agricultural Sciences, informed the Vice Chancellor that the university is planting 300 trees today, including Moringa, Pelken, Brighanzia, Sukh Chain, and Arjun trees.

NOWSHERA VIRKAN, Aug 19 (APP):Under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Naveed Haider, a cleanup operation is currently in progress along the Tatle Ali Road in Nowshera Virkan, on Monday.
According to AC Office, this initiative is being carried out on the special instructions of Deputy Commissioner Gujranwala, Muhammad Tariq Qureshi, as part of the Suthra Punjab program.
According to the details, piles of dirt and garbage had been accumulating on the sides of Tatle Ali Road.
Asistant Commissioner Naveed Haider personally oversaw the cleanup, with the sanitation staff diligently gathering the waste from both sides of the road and transporting it to the designated dumping site.
The local residents living along Tatle Ali Road have also been advised to refrain from littering and maintaining a clean environment in the area.

Political stability, continuous policies must to overcome economic challenges, says Ahsan Iqbal

LAHORE, Aug 19 (APP):Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has stressed upon the need of political stability and sustainable policy framework to overcome the prevailing challenges to the economy including the food security and climate change.
He stated this while addressing the 2nd National Conference on Food Security organized under the auspices of the National School of Public Policy (NSPP) here on Monday.
The Minister termed the food security, water scarcity and unplanned population growth as the biggest problems being faced by the country. He said that the rapid increase in population was a serious threat that hinders the progress and development of the country. He added that Pakistan became the major victim of climate change in the world and the heavy floods in 2022 damaged the national economy up to billions of dollars.
He said that Pakistan was blessed with multiple resources and there was a dire need to utilize these resources amicably and effectively. Referring to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor introduced during PML-N previous tenure 2013-18, he deplored the neglecting of this game changer project which led to the shifting of Chinese investment to other global destinations. He was of the opinion that policies must need more than 10 years.
The Minister also urged the provincial governments to come forward and play their due role to eliminate poverty by adopting effective policies in consultation with the researchers.
Ahsan Iqbal said that through 5Es i.e., Export-Led Growth, Environment, Equity and Empowerment, Energy Efficiency and Affordability, the country could progress. He added that youth empowerment and the role of women in the national economy were vital for the progress of the country.
Ahsan Iqbal said that “we have to adopt modern technology”. He informed that under the special initiative by the Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif ,Pakistan will be sending 1,000 agricultural scientists to China in the coming months, who will learn modern techniques aimed at increasing average yield in agriculture and livestock productivity. He assured the government’s all-out support to implement the recommendations of this conference. The objective of the conference was Food for All: Available, Accessible, Affordable, Edible.
The Planning Minister said that incumbent government will soon unveiling 2024-2029 five years plan aimed at steering the country out of the economical crises. The two days national conference was also addressed by Dr Ejaz Muneer Rector of the NSPP ,researchers and agri experts. The scholars presented their research papers and suggested possible solution to the issues of food security.

Naqvi expresses deep grief over loss of precious lives in Ghotki incident
