PESHAWAR, Dec 22 (APP): The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday marked Christmas with its Christian staff members at a ceremony attended by Chief Justice S. M. Attique Shah, the Registrar, and senior court officials.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Justice said Christmas reflects values of peace, compassion, and service to humanity shared by all religions.
Referring to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s vision, he reaffirmed that the Constitution guarantees religious freedom, equality, and the protection of minority rights.
He emphasized the importance of education for the children of staff members to enable them to compete in the job market, and noted that 17 Civil Judge posts in the district judiciary remain vacant under the five percent minority quota due to a lack of qualified candidates.
The CJ acknowledged the contributions of the Christian community in education, healthcare, defence, and public service, and paid tribute to former Chief Justice Justice AR Cornelius.
He reiterated that justice must remain impartial and blind to religion and status.
The CJ concluded by extending Christmas greetings to Christian citizens across the country.
Shakeel Masih Bishap also addressed the event, highlighting interfaith harmony.
