Over 678 PSVs impounded during crackdown

RAWALPINDI, Sep 21 (APP):Rawalpindi police are actively inspecting Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) for fitness, route permits, and licenses and have also impounded 678 vehicles on violation.
So far, fines totaling over Rs. 5 million have been imposed on vehicles failing to meet legal standards.
Action has been taken against 445 drivers for operating without licenses, and 27 drivers found guilty of negligence and their licenses were cancelled. In addition, 41 cases have been registered against both drivers and vehicle owners.
The crackdown has been initiated on the special directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Khalid Mehmood Hamdani.
The spokesman said that action would also be taken against the PSVs owners and bus terminal managers found guilty of negligence.
The special squad of City Traffic Police is also ensuring checking of vehicles at bus terminals, he informed.
A special campaign was also launched for awareness of the citizens and drivers, he added.

Special Secretary Housing directs RDA to intensify activities against dengue

RAWALPINDI, Sep 21 (APP):Special Secretary of Housing Urban Development and Public Health Engineering, Punjab, Tayyab Fareed here on Saturday directed the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) authorities to intensify ongoing activities against dengue.
The Director General (DG) RDA, Kinza Murtaza gave a detailed briefing to the Special Secretary regarding the plans and initiatives of RDA.
She also gave briefing on RDA projects including Rawalpindi Ring Road, Nulla Lai Expressway, Rehabilitation of Metro Bus Corridor, Renovation of Joint Check Post near Koral Chowk and other projects.
Tayyab Farid while appreciating the work of RDA directed the authorities that solid steps should be taken for development and improvement of Rawalpindi city. He also instructed the officers to complete the ongoing projects within shortest possible time frame.
On this occasion, the Secretary instructed that anti-dengue activities should be accelerated and strict action should be taken against those violating anti-dengue Standard Operating Procedures issued by the Punjab government.  Special surveillance of under-construction residential and commercial buildings should be conducted and strict action in accordance with the law should be taken against the violators.
On this occasion, Additional Director General RDA, Awais Manzoor Tarar, DG PHA Hassan Randhawa, Chief Engineer RDA Muhammad Anwar Baran, Director Admin and Finance RDA, Asif Mehmood Janjua, Chief Planner RDA, Jamshed Aftab, Director Land Malik Ghazanfar Ali Awan, Director Engineering Muhammad Kamran and other RDA and WASA officers were present.

98th birth anniversary of Madam Noor Jehan observed

LAHORE, Sep 21 (APP):The 98th birth anniversary of legendary vocalist and actress Malika-e-Tarannum Madam Noor Jehan  was  observed on Saturday.
Born in Kasur‚ Punjab in 1926 in a family of musicians, she recorded about 10‚000 songs in various languages including Urdu‚ Punjabi and Sindhi.
She also exhibited her talent as an actor in films like Chan Way, Dopatta, Mirza Ghalib, Qaidi, Baaji and Khandaan.
Malika-e-Tarannum’s national patriotic songs, during 1965 Pak- India war, are an important part of our national history.
She received various awards including Life Time Achievement Award, Presidential Pride Of Performance Award, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Sitara-e-Imtiaz.
Noor Jehan died on 23rd of December, 2000, and was buried in Karachi.

Peace establishment, protection of every citizen task of state: CM Bugti

QUETTA, Sep 21 (APP):Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Saturday said all measures were being taken for sustainable peace as the establishment of peace and the protection of every citizen is the responsibility of the state.
In his message on the occasion of the International Day of Peace, he said that the survival of humanity and the formation of a developed society are possible through peace while peacekeeping is the biggest challenge in the world today.
Mir Sarfraz Bugti said that Pakistan is in the grip of global conspiracies that we need to get things right internally.
He said that the negative role of social media in sabotaging peace could not be closed, nor could external forces be ignored in worsening the situation in Balochistan.
“Outside handlers are taking the youth away from the state on social media”, he said.
The CM said that the seeds of hatred are being created between the youth and the state adding that that we have to realize the delicacy of the situation, we are sending our young people around the world, including Oxford University to explore new avenues of learning and development.
He said that on the other hand, anti-peace elements are pushing them into the darkness of despair and are inducing them to sabotage the peace in the beloved country.
Mir Sarfraz Bugti said that on the International Day of Peace, we reiterate our commitment to make Pakistan and Balochistan the cradle of peace.

IG releases Rs1.55 mln for medical expenses of police personnel

LAHORE, Sep 21 (APP):Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar has released another Rs. 1.55 million for the medical expenses of police personnel suffering from serious illnesses.
According to details, Lahore Police’s driver constable Faisal Shehzad has been provided Rs. 500,000 for eye treatment, security constable Saleem ullah has been granted Rs. 200,000 for cancer treatment, and constable Muhammad Saleem of Lahore Police has been given Rs. 200,000 for leg and knee surgery; Rs. 250,000 has been allocated for the knee surgery of the wife of retired DSP Raja Sadaqat Ali. Constable Muhammad Shakeel from Faisalabad has been provided with Rs. 200,000 for an eye operation. Additionally, an employee of the Welfare Branch has been granted Rs. 200,000 for major surgery. The Welfare Branch had forwarded these medical cases to IG Punjab after scrutinizing the documents received from across the province.
The IG Punjab emphasized that every possible effort is being made to ensure the best health welfare for police personnel and their families. MOUs have been signed with hospitals to provide quality and affordable treatment, and financial assistance for medical expenses is also being provided. Steps will continue through police welfare sources for the health welfare of the force, he added.

India-sponsored sham elections in IIOJK not substitute for right of self-determination: AJK PM

MIRPUR, Sep 21 (APP):Azad Jammu Kashmir Prime Minister Chudhary Anwar ul Haq visited the Islamabad  residence of former AJK Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan and discussed, in detail, the issues of mutual interests, including the overall current political situation in the country, it was officially said.
According to an AJK government handout issued late Friday, both the leaders also most particularly discussed the prevailing political and human rights abusive situation in the Indian illegally occupied territory of Jammu and Kashmir state.
Rejecting the ongoing so-called state assembly election drama being staged by the Indian government in the IIOJ&K under the vigil of over a million occupying Indian military and paramilitary troops, AJK Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Chaudhry said that sham polls held in the disputed territory cannot be a substitute for Kashmiris’ birthright to self-determination.
The AJK PM was accompanied by the AJK State Education Minister Diwan Ali Khan Chaghtai, Health Minister Dr. Nisar Ansar Abdali, Information Minister Pir Mazhar Saeed Shah, Member AJK Legislative Assembly Chaudhry Ali Shan Soni, Sardar Ahmad Sagheer, and Sardar Iftikhar Rashid on this occasion.

CTD arrests five suspects in 65 IBOs across Punjab

LAHORE, Sep 21 (APP):The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested five suspects with alleged links to terrorist organisations in 65 intelligence-based operations carried out in Punjab on Saturday.
In a statement, the Punjab CTD said it carries out operations and obtains intelligence across the province regularly to thwart terrorism-related activities.
The CTD said 63 individuals were interrogated from Lahore, Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh.
Three of the arrested suspects were identified as Amjadur Rehman from Toba Tek Singh, Sher Ali from Jhang and Zahab Ullah from Lahore — who it said were connected to the banned group Fitna-al-Khawarij (Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan).
The other two were Tayyab Raees from Bahawalpur, who CTD said was associated with the militant Islamic State group (IS) — also known as Daish — and Baaz Khan, alias Bahar Khan, from Mianwali.
In this regard, five FIRs were filed against the individuals under Pakistan Explosives Act and Anti-Terrorism Act.
The Punjab CTD carried out 980 operations this week resulting in the screening of 32,662 individuals, the statement added.
“These operations resulted in the arrest of 109 suspects and the registration of 102 FIRs with 88 recoveries reported.” It added that CTD is working towards “the goal of a safer Punjab,” and was determined to “root out the scourge of terrorism”.

Pakistan, China strengthen energy partnership at Silk Route Expo

ISLAMABAD, Sep 21 (APP): Minister for Petroleum Dr Musadik Malik on Saturday led a delegation of Pakistani energy companies to the 8th Silk Route Expo, fostering collaborations with Chinese counterparts to boost Pakistan’s energy sector.
During a series of roundtable meetings, Dr Malik met with representatives from leading Chinese companies, including the Shaanxi Energy Bureau, Yanchang Petroleum Group, Hua Lu Engineering and Technology Group, Shanghai Electric, Shaanxi Blower Group, China Typical Group and Hangzhou Maibao Import & Export Company Limited at the Pakistan Pavilion, set up for the Expo in Xian, China.
Pakistani companies, including Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL), Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited (FFC) and the Thar Coal Energy Board, showcased investment opportunities at the Expo said a news release.
Opening the discussion forum, the minister outlined the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and assured the Chinese companies that Pakistan would provide maximum facilitation in partnering with Pakistani firms, whether individually or in consortia.
During the meeting, key areas of partnership including oil and gas exploration, refinery upgrades, coal conversion and regasification were discussed.
Dr Musadik Malik emphasized that Pakistan has one of the largest coal reserves and is committed to adding value to its natural resources while ensuring environmental protection.
He also highlighted the country’s focus on producing fertilizer using coal-based energy.
“Moreover, the production of green and blue hydrogen, as well as ammonia, is under consideration. We will become technology partners and joint venture partners,” Dr Musadik Malik remarked.
Chinese companies also engaged in business-to-business meetings with their Pakistani counterparts, exchanging opportunities and plans for collaboration.

FDA DG to hear public complaints daily

FAISALABAD, Sep 21 (APP):Director General (DG) Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) Muhammad Asif Chaudhary will hear public complaints daily in his office from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
A statement here on Saturday said that FDA would implement “Open Door” policy of the Punjab government in letter and spirit. People can approach him without any hesitation in his office from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and submit their complaints relating to FDA services.
He also directed the incharges of FDA sections to specify some time for public dealing and resolving their genuine complaints on top priority.
