ICT Police prohibits officers, staff from social media activity without permission

ISLAMABAD, Sep 24 (APP):The police officers and officials in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) on Tuesday were barred from expressing any opinions or sharing content on social media platforms without prior permission.
According to an office memorandum issued by the Inspector General (IG) Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, officers were restrained from speaking at public forums in their official capacity, publishing articles in print media, or giving opinions or official statements across all social media platforms without prior permission.
The directive prohibited making videos or taking pictures in police uniform within government premises, buildings, vehicles, or private places for personal publicity and glorification.
“No officer or official shall upload any kind of secret or official documents, pictures, or content of such documents on social media,” the memorandum stated, further barring the sharing of personal, political, or religious views on any media platform.
The IG said in the memorandum that official channels regarding police activities will only be operated by the Public Relations Branch of the Central Police Office (CPO).
 Officers or officials wishing to highlight positive departmental activities on social media must obtain regular departmental permission from the DIG Headquarters, CPO, through the Public Relations Branch.
The directive further instructed that unit heads will be responsible for personally supervising and monitoring the social media activities of officers and officials in their respective divisions, zones, and units. Strict departmental action, in accordance with the rules, will be taken in case of any violations.
The policy would remain in force until further notice, with officers of all ranks required to ensure its strict implementation.

Dengue endemic, 58 new cases reported in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, Sep 24 (APP):Dengue patients recorded in the recent year till date reach to 777 after 58 new cases reported during last 24 hours in Rawalpindi.
The latest data released by the District Health Authority on Tuesday shows a total of 141 patients are under treatment in allied hospitals across the district with availability of 300 beds facility.
After officially declared 4 fatalities in the district, the health authority has also beefed up the surveillance and monitoring of the affected areas. The recent data reveals that out of 43 new cases, 33 patients were reported from Pothohar peri-urban areas during last 24 hours.
The health officials are focussing on Chak Jalal Din which remains among the most affected parts of the city.
On the other side, Rawalpindi Cantonment Board and Municipal Corporation have started spraying and fogging in different areas. The health department is consistently appealing to the citizens to follow dengue SOPs.
During the last 24 hours, the health department has raided many commercial outlets and found SOPs violations. A number of shops were sealed and many others were imposed with financial penalties.

Kissan Ittehad demands announcement of policy on wheat, sugarcane

MULTAN, Sep 24 (APP):Pakistan Kissan Ittehad (PKI) Chairman Khalid Khokhar urged the government to announce wheat and sugarcane policy at the earliest.
Seaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, he said the cost of production increased
manifold and farmers were in state of confusion. The government should announce wheat policy to address farmers concerns, he added.
Khalid Khokhar observed that food security was a global issue. Experts termed it more essential than border security even, he remarked.
The chairman Pakistan Kissan Ittehad observed that there was remarkable decline in the production of cotton which was nearly 64 per cent.
Commenting reasons behind low production, Khalid Khokhar stated that cost of production, climate change and low return against produce were basic reason behind the decline of the white gold.
Khalid Khokhar maintained that the government should ensure forensic audit of farmers’ bills. The farmers were ready to pay but there should be transparent audit of bills for farmers’ satisfaction, he added.
The chairman Kissan Ittehad also feared that fish production was also facing numerous issues particularly due to climate change.
About sugarcane, he demanded the issuance of pending payments to growers which was
nearly Rs 20 billions.
Responding to a query, he appreciated sowing of wheat on government land available
in different areas.
To another query about long term solution for agriculture, he proposed 10 years policy to develop agriculture on sustainable footing.

IRSA’s technical committee to meet on Thursday to assess water availability for Rabi season 2024

ISLAMABAD, Sep 24 (APP):The technical committee of Indus River System Authority (IRSA) will meet on September 26 (Thursday) to assess the availability of water in the rivers and reservoirs for the upcoming Rabi season 2024, scheduled to commence from Oct 1.
The meeting of the IRSA technical committee has been convened to provide an assessment of the water flows in the rivers and reservoir level during the upcoming Rabi season, official sources told APP here Tuesday.
The meeting of the technical committee will be presided over by the IRSA Director Operation while Chief Engineer WAPDA, Directors Regulation Punjab, Sindh, Superintendent Engineer Irrigation Balochistan, Director Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and officials of Tarbela and Mangla dams, they said.
The Water Accord 1991 empowered the IRSA to determine water availability in the country and provincial share twice a year, once for Kharif season and the other for Rabi season. Rabi season starts from October 1, while Kharif starts from April 1.

KARACHI, Sep 24 (APP):Shipping activity was report at the port where four ships, Maersk Durban, ATN Unity, Kition-M and Milaha Ras Laffan carrying Container, Palm Kernel, Gas oil and LNG,berthed at Qasim International Container Terminal, Multi-Purpose Terminal-2, FOTCO Oil Terminal and Pakistan Gas Port Consortium Terminal respectively during Report Period, Meanwhile three more ships, Atlantic Ibis, MSC Maeva and Al-Deebal are also arrived at outer anchorage port on today morning.
       A total of nine ships were engaged at PQA berths during the last 24 hours, out of them a edible oil carrier ‘Corona’ left the port on today morning, Meanwhile four more ships, Atlantic Ibis, Roberta, Sapphire-X and Milaha Raslaffan are expected to sail on today.
    Cargo volume of 133,080 tonnes, comprising 130,569 tonnes imports cargo and 2,511 tonnes export cargo carried in 515 Containers (508 TEUs Imports& 07 TEUs Export) was handled at the port during last 24 hours.
       There are 07 ships at Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim, out of them four ships, MSC Maeva, Atlantic Ibis, Bentley and Al-Deebal & another bulk cargo carrier ‘Scarable’ are carrying Container, Palm oil, LNG and Coal are expected to take berths at QICT, LCT, EETL and PIBT respectively on today 24th September, Meanwhile three more container ships, Maersk Cape Town, SSL Brahmaputra and Cap Andreas are due to arrive at port on Wednesday.

Railways offer 50 percent concession for disable persons in trains fare

ISLAMABAD, Sep 24 (APP):Pakistan Railways is offering a 50 percent concession in rail fares to facilitate disabled persons traveling in all express and passenger trains, except the Green Line.
“The concession is granted upon the presentation of the Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) bearing the disability logo,” an official in the Ministry of Railways told APP.
He said that a 50 percent discount is also offered to the attendant accompanying visually impaired persons. About the facilities at Railway Stations and Reservation Offices, he said that wheelchairs are available at all major stations to assist disabled passengers.
Additionally, the official said that exclusive reservation and booking counters have been designated for disabled persons
at reservation offices.
The free-of-cost access to executive washrooms and restrooms has been provided at a few major stations for special persons.
The official said that the facility of executive washrooms at 12 major stations is also being developed and will have free access for disabled passengers.
To a question, the official said that Khushal Khan Khattak Express was discontinued in March 2020 owing to COVID-19, as train operation was suspended.
He said that Pakistan Railways is operating 98 trains on a daily basis with 1,180 serviceable coaches. The department owns 1,680 passenger coaches on books out of which 72 percent of coaches have surpassed their useful life.
The official said the overage coaches require extra resources, and maintenance costs to keep them fit for operation. At present, 2 Up and 2 Down trains are running between Peshawar and Karachi, he added.
He said that two passenger trains Bolan Mail and Monjodaro Express are operating on the Larkana section to cater to the transportation needs of the area while the restoration of Khushal Khan Khattak will be examined once the availability of coaches is improved along with consideration of the operating cost and commercial viability.

UNICEF team meets KP health advisor; assures support in health sector

PESHAWAR, Sep 24 (APP):A delegation of UNICEF officials called on the Advisor to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Health, Ihtisham Ali here and congratulated him on assuming new role and provided a comprehensive briefing on UNICEF’s support for the Health Department.
The UNICEF team was led by Dr Inam Ullah, alongside Immunization Officer Dr Kamran Qureshi, Additional Director General Public Health Dr Shahid Younas, Director Nutrition Dr Fazal Majeed and Director Maternal and Child Healthcare Dr Khizar Hayat, said a press release issued here Tuesday.
During the meeting, Dr Inam Ullah He outlined the various areas in which UNICEF was providing technical and financial assistance to the department and discussed installation and maintenance of oxygen plants in 10 districts across the province.
The Advisor was also briefed on the Integrated Service Delivery Program currently being implemented in the southern districts with UNICEF’s support. Dr Inam Ullah highlighted UNICEF’s collaboration in improving maternal health services, specifically in Torghar district, where the deployment of female doctors has significantly enhanced maternity care.
In addition, he said that UNICEF was supporting the department in areas such as cold chain management, digitalization, and immunization. The organization had also assisted in establishing the Social and Behavioral Change Cell within the Directorate General Health Services to enhance communication strategies.
UNICEF was playing a vital role in the digitalization of the health system, including technical support for the DHIS-2 system, which had been implemented in 15 districts.
Moreover, during the last floods, UNICEF helped in the rehabilitation and reactivation of 19 health centers affected by the disaster.
The team assured continued support of UNICEF in health sector in the province.

ANF seizes 16 kg drugs in 11 operations

RAWALPINDI, Sep 24 (APP):Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) while conducting 11 operations across the country managed to recover 16 kg drugs worth Rs 3.2 million and arrested 10 accused, said an ANF Headquarters spokesman here on Tuesday.
He informed that in two operations conducted on Lalazar Road in Rawalpindi, 69 grams hashish was recovered from the possession of two accused arrested near a university.
2.4 kg hashish was recovered from the possession of a woman travelling in a passenger van near Motorway Toll Plaza Islamabad.
50 grams ice was recovered from an accused rounded up near a university in Attock.
600 grams ice was recovered from the possession of an accused netted near a university in Faisalabad.
In a raid conducted near a college in Faisalabad, 300 grams hashish and 200 grams ice were recovered from the possession of an accused.
940 grams hashish was recovered from the possession of a drug dealer arrested near Shehbaz Chowk in Quetta.
All the arrested accused confessed to supplying drugs to students of educational institutions.
The spokesman further informed that in an operation, 1040 grams heroin was recovered from the possession of an accused nabbed on Canal Road Lahore.
450 grams ice was recovered from a parcel booked for Bahrain at a courier office in Lahore.
360 grams heroin was recovered from an accused rounded up on Walton Road, Lahore while 9 kg hashish was recovered from an accused arrested near Jamshoro bus stop in Sindh.
Cases under the Anti-Narcotics Act have been registered against the arrested accused and further investigations are under process.

Durable peace in the world not possible without permanent resolution of Palestine, Kashmir disputes: Tarar

NEW YORK, Sep 24 (APP): Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage and Culture Attaullah Tarar said on Tuesday that durable peace in the world was not possible without permanent resolution of Palestine and Kashmir issues.

Talking to media outside the United Nations General Assembly, he said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had raised both issues at all international fora.

He said on Palestine issue, the PM had stated that war crimes were being committed in the area, genocide of armless
Palestinians was being committed and the world should take notice and bring the perpetrator Israel to justice.

He said the Prime Minister had also made clear that Pakistan wanted restoration of pre-1967 borders in which Jerusalem should be the capital of Palestine.

” We want immediate ceasefire in Gaza and accountability of the aggressor Israel for war crimes and genocide being committed in Palestine”, he remarked.

Tarar said that Pakistan had dispatched humanitarian aid through ships and C130s. Moreover Pakistan had offered to give admission to Palestinian medical students in Pakistani institutions, so that they could complete their education without any hindrance.

He said the Kashmir issue would figure in the Prime Minister’s engagements in the United Nations.

Besides , he said climate change was a major issue for Pakistan which contributed only 2 per cent of the gas emissions but had to bear the brunt of adverse effects of the climate change.

He said the UN secretary general had himself visited Pakistan and himself saw the impact of climate change in Pakistan due to heavy floods.

He further said that Pakistan had also badly suffered in the war against terrorism and it was still suffering in this war launched by the western powers.

The minister said that after 2018 Pakistan was isolated on foreign policy affairs as Pakistan’s friends both in East and West were unhappy.

He said now the warmth in relations with all friendly countries was restored and cooperation was showing serge.

He said that talks with the International Monetary Fund had been concluded and final endorsement was due shortly.

He said there was also good news about Pakistan’s economy and the world should come and invest in Pakistan to take advantage of its huge potential.

He said that Bloomberg had termed the Pakistan stock market as an emerging stock market and Moody’s and Fitch had upgraded its rating.

He said there was good news that inflation had fallen to 9.6 per cent whereas exports have increased by 14 percent. Information technology exports have touched the 3.1 billion mark and remittances have also shown an upward trend.

He said that the entire world could share in the economic revival of Pakistan.

To a question, he said that during the PM’s visit, meetings will be held with doctors , bankers and representatives from other walks of life.

Elaborating on Pakistan’s isolation in the past, he said that during the PTI rule on the one hand China-Pakistan Economic Corridor was shut down and on the other the US was accused of toppling its government and even friendly countries in the Middle East were not happy with the foreign policy of the then regime.
